watched relentless for the first time last night, can't believe I've never given the dude a shot

Legend before the alcohol destroyed his stand up career

He comes off as a bit too preachy. But is probably one of the most underrated comedians of all time.

Too bitter, but makes some good points. More talk radio ranter than comedian.

His AMA today was epic.

he's good but he's basically like Louis CK before he realized that having 2 hours of material isn't really the same as having an actual career.

Spoiled brat turned preacher. Fuck him and his skeleton.

He's better than Andrew Dice Clay at least,

the Stevie Ray Vaughan of stand up

meh

He makes me a little sick because I knew someone as a teenager who worshipped him and after I saw his stuff it became clear to me that this person got all their opinions from him and based a large part of their mannerisms off of him.

and you're just the perfect specimen for a human being, right?

muh evil conservatives

muh drugs

still the favorite comedian, still actual

Stanhope is better

I subconsciously did this with Woody Allen. Sometimes I even lapse into the accent.

Fuck the haters. He was funny, and I miss him. He died much too young.

>based off
*based on

Shit for edgy teenagers. Then you grow up a bit and realise how cringeworthy his material is.

>specimen for
* specimen of

youtube.com/watch?v=r8ZBdnbdeFE

This guy was legitimately insane. Watch this shit and tell me this guy had all his marbles.

>underrated

I dont think that word meands what you think it means

MICE? THEY'RE JUST FAG RATS!

>wow, a man on a stage
>acting
>MOM
>IS
>GONNA
>FREAK

Dennis Leary wannabe

tryhard edgemaster autist

Triggers cuckservatives like no one else except maybe Carlin, so he gets huge bonus points for that.

WE'RE BREAKING THE CONDITIONING
AAAHHHHHHHH

Well that triggered me.

you have to understand Hicks was way before the internet.
He got actually censored at Letterman, so too define him edgy like todays posers it's dishonest.
He was properly edgy, pushing the boundaries of the medium at his time.

another dead hero

...

Lmao hicks was an embarrassing reddit tier libtard pleb

fuck Dennis Leary

...

this times 100

>censored at Letterman

Well, he DID describe taking Billy Ray Cyrus by his fruity little ponytail, putting a double barrel in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

That might be a bit much for your evening CBS entertainment.

memes and garbage aside I'll forever laugh at the bit about satan cumming silverfish into dick clarks belly

Just watched it, and it was great. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'd say the crazier people are the ones that disagree with what he said.
I only watched a few minutes of an interview so far, but can tell I like this guy.

I think it's important to have the intelligent "preachy" comedians because we live in a world with many people who are wrong. People that have weird beliefs they want to push on you. It's nice to hear a comedian tell a good joke that also makes sense or makes you think.

fuckin' miss Carlin, man.

I think we've run out of comedians that'll slap us back into sobriety.

This post just screams Leddit. Fuck off

No, fuck YOU mr "I have no identity outside of fucking memes".

I put some actual god damn heart into that post and you piss all over it with some shit that's been spouted a hundred god damn times already?!

No. Fuck YOU. Asshole.

And then come up with something fucking ORIGIONAL the next time you want to put somebody down you piece of elephantine shit.

Hey y'all, what's up with that internet thing you're all just goin' fuckin' CRAZY about, huh?

"Hey Bill, you on the Facebook?" NO! NO I'm not on the Facebook, ya fuckin RETARD. Hey, government spies, ya don't need to dig through trash anymore, WE'LL JUST PUT OUR ENTIRE LIVES! RIGHT UP THERE ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR YA!

Isn't it amazing? You spend DECADES, spying on your citizens, parked across the street with telephoto lenses, just -snap- -snap- "Oh ah got a gud wun there Jim ah think he's in the tub ahuh huh..." And all you needed was to say "HEY! ASSHOLES! SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE INFORMATION EXCHANGE! IT'S FREE! That's it you fuckers, get all your pictures of the kids up there, all your bikini holiday pics, get everyone you EVER talked to in a nice orderly list, it's okay, WE WON'T USE IT TO CHECK FOR DISSIDENTS! WE WON'T USE IT TO MOULD SOCIETY, INTO AN ORWELLIAN NIGHTMARE..."

upboated xD

You ever notice on the internet, anyone who knows more than you is a loser, and everyone who knows less than you is a newfag?

And everything... EVERYTHING on the internet is divided up into little convenient categories... we got the random board, the anime, the gay girls, trap girls, young girls, old girls, fun girls, fat girls, boy girls and gay boys! And if you don't have a board you like you can *POP* make one yourself just like that! And we wonder why kids aren't studying as much as they used to anymore? When I was a kid the only board WE had was the blackboard... It was a good board, because anytime you didn't want to see the porn or bad language on it, you just *WOOSH* erased your history!

And on the internet, everything is made using metaphorical language, you ever noticed that? Think about it? Download? Why down? Why load? Are we comparing hard drives to loading docks now? I know a couple dockworkers who would be PRETTY embarassed by some of the language if they went on Sup Forums!

But then when you put something from your hard drive onto the internet, that's an UPload... Why? Why not left-load? Or right-load? "Hey, Tony, have you been left-loading music again?" "No, Mah, I swear, I was just right-loading a torrent!"

Don't let the little kids get to you dude.

Sometimes you have to take a step back and remember some of Sup Forums's users are literally children. Like, 11 year old children. They're just looking for somewhere they fit in, and there's no way for Sup Forums to reject them like their schoolfriends and parents obviously did.

A post complaining about "Leddit" or other kind of meme-filled shitpost is, I'm pretty sure, 90% these little kids trying to fit in with the cool, older kids.

Meh. I'm not mad.
I was just channeling Bill for a moment.
Poorly, I might add, but it was fun.

Yeah, but nah. Did you suffer a traumatizing experience on the internet? Did a redditor do you wrong? No one's here to hurt you. Everything's cool man, relax.

Although I will say I don't agree that we've run out. There are still good comedians if you look. Same as when people say there's no good music anymore. Yes there is. You just have to look for what you like. and that might not be on the radio. I've watched some good acts recently.

this post honestly made me want to throw up
get the fuck out

and why did my post make you feel like throwing up?

DUDE ALL CORPORATIONS ARE EVIL LMAO
EXCEPT TOBACCO ONES BECAUSE THEY'RE MY DEALER

At what age did you grow out of Bill Hicks?

You missed the point. In the act I watched at least, he just pointed out how stupid it was that people had to declare that playboy causes sexual thoughts as something new, or that corporations use sex to sell products. It should be obvious and that's the joke.

He also points out musicians claiming to be artists are out there doing the same thing, selling coke or whatever, but still claiming that what they do is art.
he wants real art, not an ad for something.

Never said don't buy a coke though.

>I will quote Bill Hicks at any event I'm invited to

>"You know I have the transcript..."

>I, uh, didn't, ah, molest her, officer, it's just my persona [frets]

He's bitter, abrasive, unlikable, a massive hypocrite, and well ahead of his time.

I love him to bits.

correct, that kind of material is more at home on the news as a direct description of unfolding events.

about 19
the "Look at how edgy I am" comedy grows old really fast
if he kept on making material today, he would be regarded worse than Dane Cook

Dane Cook is offensive because his jokes are bad. Bill Hicks would still have people to offend today, making him relevant, and had funny jokes.

Overrated.

Not even Lenny Bruce level for iconic either.

I liked him as a teen but now that I'm older his comedy doesn't stand up compared to alot of the greats.

Can you link one of his funny jokes?
I just remember watching a standup performance of him for like 30 minutes and he didnt make me laugh once.

Bill Hicks i meant

how edgy of you

Do you laugh at Sup Forums memes? I think Sup Forums posters generally forget to put things in perspective. You're mentally retarded... your assessment of humor is not accurate.

Alex Jones is great

Had some good insights but overall an angry, bitter man who gets more worship than he deserves because he died young.

a fat, loud faggot

I apologize. It was not my intention to insult your idol. I was just being curious and checking if someone could link me to an example of his good material. No need to be rude

please share your superior sense of humor with us and link his funny material

>idol

I'm just pointing out if that if your idea of humor is some mentally ill neckbeard reposting an image literally hundreds of thousands of times, then you're probably not qualified to criticize anything, ever.

>if your idea of humor is some mentally ill neckbeard reposting an image literally hundreds of thousands of times
What makes you think this is the case?
Why do you seem to think you got this clear picture about how i am?

oh shit, that's a good comparison

when I first heard his stuff I was laughing pretty damn hard, i mean sans all the "preachy " content his delivery and personality etc.etc... The stuff I enjoyed most was his shit on the side like Ninja Bachelor party and the soundtrack for it. But smoking so damn much , pancreatic cancer etc, waffle house...

I just looked up his relentless act after it was suggested here. You have to keep in mind though, that if you go into these acts just looking to laugh at something mindlessly, you might be disappointed. I like dumb comedy too. Some comedians are more like public speakers or educators, but also happen to be very funny. It works though because people listen better if something is entertaining.

Probably why a bill hicks hater would get accused of only enjoying meme humor, because maybe you didn't find the humor great because you either didn't understand or side with the comedian.

It's just that I agree with everything he said and had a laugh along the way so, yeah, i dont know, I liked it.

I stayed up later than I should've to reply to that. Peace.

Nah.

He doesn't have funny "jokes" or anything. His best bits are a little more longform. If you want to give him a serious chance, try one of his earlier shows a shot. He was a topical comedian, so some of the skits might fall flat to someone that wasn't aware of the post-Bush Sr. political landscape. He was also a very political guy, so he might not be your brand of comedy at all. His earlier stuff is the strongest though, so I'd go there first. If that doesn't hook you, then you probably shouldn't bother with the rest of it.

*give one of his earlier shows a shot

Nigga please.
If Bill Hicks hadn't died, he'd be totally broken and sold out now. He'd probably be shilling for FB or some other mega Corp right now.
and he wasn't a comic. Comics are supposed to be funny and Bill Hacks never got a legit laugh in his short ass career

He is one of my favorite comedians.

younger goerge carlin

>he wasn't a comic
What was he then, slapnuts?

He was a preacher.

Why did he get booked at nightclubs and billed as a comedian? That's weird

I was joking, based on the fact that his mother once said to him that he was like a preacher on stage and Hicks said that's exactly what he is.

Janeane Garofalo made a documentary that included interviews with his family and comedians inspired by him.

Personally I think he had some very funny bits (eg. the "prankster God" bit) but his main appeal was as a rabble rouser. I enjoy that as well sometimes, especially did as a youngster. But when you grow up you see that he's really hitting the low hanging fruit. The fundamentalist Christians, New Kids on the Block, Republican politicians... He's not exactly blowing the lid off anything or being controversial (for that particular audience) in the way older Carlin or even Bill Burr have been in the past.

Fair play, he did (apparently) play some redneck hillbilly venues and rub their faces in their shit sometimes, but once he came over to England and got the big audiences, he was preaching to the left-liberal choir.

Bill Hicks is an essential phase any fan of comedy goes through (provided you're exposed to him before you're 30), but most do eventually grow out of that phase, leaving fond memories with a faint aftertaste of cringe.

That documentary (could only find it with Italian subs but it's watchable if you're a fan):

Don't say I never give you anything Sup Forums.

You knew Denis Leary as a teenager?

I'm not a fan.

damn autocorrect changed overrated to underrated
