looks like an instrument
have you tried playing it? what kind of sound does it make?
it's a koto
sell it to me you fucker
Sounds like an out of tune piece of shit
it's an ancient bong. those strings and knobs are for decoration.
That's what I thought at first but the string count doesn't match
It's a guzheng. Chinese zither.
What do I do with it? The bridges don't seem to be permanently attached
play it anyways, send a vocaroo/clypit
tune it, it's a top-tier instrument
Is that the thing the assassin plays in Kung Fu Hustle?
Is there 17? My eyesight's abysmal so I couldn't make out very well but that's what I counted. Anyway, 17-string kotos exist as well as 13 string ones but are rarer and that might be one
I wouldn't even know how to tune it. Look at where the bridges are placed here then on all other guzhengs. The bridge placement on this is fucked. Probably hasn't been played in decades. I wouldn't know where to put the bridges to begin tuning
So which is it fags?
just play some melody on it out of tune. i wanna know how this thing sounds
16 strings
So, how the hell did you acquire it?
Found it when cleaning out my grandmother's shed in her backyard
is she a gook or chink?
It's involved with tuning obvs. There's videos on YouTube.
Movable bridges= probably a guzheng.
Fixed bridges= probably a guqin.
If those bits on the far left are tuning pegs, it's not a koto. They don't have pegs, just the bridges.
It also looks like a good instrument, not the 100 dollar chinese instrument people are selling nowadays.
I am curious to know how your grandmother acquired it.

When I said out of tune, I meant out of tune niggers
sounds like one of those cheap fake autoharps when you play it
its a chordophone
Are those nylon strings? I've never seen or played a Guzheng that uses anything but steel, and usually thicker gauge than that. What country is your grandmother from specifically?
why don't you use the tuning pegs then
Thanks faggot
They're steel
Vietnam
I would if I knew where the fuck the bridges needed to go first
I doubt it's a Guzheng then, both because of the gauges of the strings and Guzhengs rarely being found outside of China.
My guess is a Đàn tranh or Gong Zither. They're both native to Vietnam, have similarly uniform string gauges, and the former has 16 bridges while the latter can be anywhere from 10-18. Because there's only one row of bridges, I'd probably lean more toward a Gong Zither
So how do I go about tuning an obscure southeast asian instrument
just tune it to the closest note/develop intervals. usually fifths
The solfege on the side indicates a mojor pentatonic scale. I just have no idea what note to start with or where to put the bridges. I really don't want a string snapping on me.
*major
You can look up tension calculators for pitch
I love this kinda shit.
Is watching Avatar when younger responsible for this?
