Sextant was released in 1973 and was the last of the Mwandishi trilogy.....and was also bat shit insane.
By far the most experimental and bizaar of the three, the opening track 'Rain Dance' can tend to make or break the album for a lot of people. A bizaar synth line and drum machine making most of the track, his most strange work to date.
The second track, Hidden Shadows, was slightly tamer, being a choppy jazz funk groove. The most 'accessible' out of the three, and my personal favorite.
The final track, Hornets, was somewhere in the middle. More steady drum patterns and bass lines over heavily improvised saxaphones and a distorted synthesizer.
It's definitely not the Herbie album you wanna start on, but at least it's not the worst.

the only thing that's genuinely true is that music was more "significant" to its consumers back in the 50s-70s. Each song, each record just meant a little bit more to the average person.
Not to mention 70s AM soft rock is some of the most pleasant-sounding music ever crafted.
I just kinda wish I could get the same rush a teenager in the 50s did hearing Buddy Holly for the first time. They're just simple little guitar ditties, but for some reason it just said everything those people didn't know how to say.
