How would you rank the songs on this album, and which song is your favorite and why? I've been loving this thing lately

The New is the best song

1. NYC, because it's fucking beautiful
2. Leif Erikson
3. PDA
4. Stella
5. The New
6. Obstacle 1
7. Roland
8. Hands Away
9. Untitled
10. Obstacle 2

Wtf I love obstacle 2

Stella is the correct answer.

>Stella
this

OBJECTIVE TOP 3:

>STELLLLAAAAAAAAA I LOOOOOVE YOU
>THIS IS A CON-CEPT THIS IS A BRA-CE-LET
>BAAAAAAAAABBYYY MY HEART'S BEEEN BREAAAKING

PDA > Obstacle 1 = NYC > Untitled > Say Hello > Stella > Hands Away > New > Leif > Obstacle 2 > Roland

8/10, gets a little flat on the b side for me.

My friend and I will try to talk about our favorite track on this album and we end up just talking about every track being awesome but my favorites are probably NYC, Stella, and The New

Stella>PDA>Leif Erikson>The New>Untitled>NYC>Obstacle 1>Say Hello the Angels>Obstacle 2>Hands Away>Roland

It's a v. good album and one of my first favorites and still holds up unlike other bland indie post-punk revival of its time i.e. Strokes, Vaccines and the worst offenders of them all, the Arctic Monkeys

1. Untitled: 7.5/10
2. Obstacle 1: 8/10
3. NYC: 7.5/10
4. PDA: 8.5/10
5. Say Hello to the Angels: 8/10
6. Hands Away: 7.5/10
7. Obstacle 2: 7/10
8 Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down: 7/10
9. Roland: 8/10
10. The New: 7.5/10
11. Lief Erikson: 8.5/10

overall rating: 8/10

thats my sisters name what

1. Untitled: 10/10
2. Obstacle 1: 8.5/10
3. NYC: 8/10
4. PDA: 7/10
5. Say Hello to the Angels: 8/10
6. Hands Away: 7.5/10
7. Obstacle 2: 10/10
8 Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down: 8.5/10
9. Roland: 8.5/10
10. The New: 10/10
11. Lief Erikson: 10/10

Best rock album since Blonde on Blonde. It's like Joy Division decided to focus on song writing rather than atmosphere. The atmosphere on this album is 10/10 though.

same

now i have to listen to this album

you should. its not only a magnificent work of art, its best indie rock album of the 2000s

>1. Leif Erikson
>2. Obstacle 2
>3. Obstacle 1
>4. Untitled
>5. NYC
>6. The New
>7. Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down
>8. Say Hello to the Angels
>9. Hands Away
>10. Roland
Some tracks are lifted by the lyrics just making more sense and the guitar creating a very particular atmosphere but I'd say it's a very consistent record overall.

>It's like Joy Division decided to focus on song writing rather than atmosphere.

Fucking thank you.

I have been championing this album as "joy division but good" but everybody dickrides Ian "Famous for Offing Himself" Curtis too hard to listen. I don't see how someone can enjoy JD but not listen and understand why this band just did it all much, much better. Are they innovationfags or something?

Strongly disagree with your statement about BoB though. Both of these albums are 9s for me, but how is there nothing in the 70s and 80s for you? Those were the best times for rock music imo. Prog's and post punk's peaks in the '70s resulted in some of the greatest rock music ever created, and the '80s are so diverse and varied in the types of rock that emerged in both the mainstream and the underground, and a lot of it is really excellent. The 90s were a little bit of a rut besides MBV and some tight indie rock acts like Pavement, but I just don't see how there can be that big of a gap. Not attacking your opinions or anything, it's just mind boggling to me that you think BoB went uncontested for that long.

Wait, how come I'm missing PDA? I guess I'd put it between Stella and Say Hello to the Angels.

You're right about the joy division comparison but The New is a top 3 song at least

>PDA that low

Why?

I think Joy Division are a fantastic band but I think this band made UP but much better.

Also, I believe that Blonde on Blonde is the greatest album ever. There are of course tons of album I love from each decade. Closer, Songs of Love & Hate, The Idiot, SAW 85-92, White Light/White Heat are all some of my favourite albums ever. It's just that I think TOTBL is better than all of them.

Obstacle 1 is objectively the best track, only contrarians disagree

1. Obstacle 1
2. Stella
3. NYC
4. Leif Erikson
5. Roland
6. Say Hello To The Angels
7. The New
8. Obstacle 2
9. PDA
10. Hands Away

JD was more of a "product of the times" band. Interpol is white-kid memorabilia, hence the superlatives towards JD. Think of a German cap vs a aged wooden Japanese chair.

just recently missed the tickets to see this album live.

stella, the new and obstacle 2 are my favs anyway

Obstacle 1 and PDA are the best songs OBVIOUSLY

Obstacle 1 > The New > Roland > PDA > Untitled > Obstacle 2 > NYC > Leif Erikson > Stella > Say Hello to the Angels > Hands Away

Hm, strange you guys laud the songwriting because if it's one thing I think the album suffers from, it's a lack of memorable moments, melodies, and other elements to make it really distinct. It's not dark enough to be depressing, it's not melodic enough to be catchy, it's not energetic or raw enough to get your blood pumping, it's not atmospheric enough to be immersive. It tries to be many things and in doing so, fails to be any of it.

>not melodic enough to be catchy
every songs fucking loaded with hooks m8

1. The New
2. Obstacle 1
3. Leif Erikson
4. NYC
5. Obstacle 2
6. Stella
7. Roland
8. Hands Away
9. Untitled
10. PDA
11. Say Hello to the Angels

The New is a 10/10 song
Say Hello to the Angels is 7/10 (PDA is a 8.5 though)

Also
1. Turn on the Bright Lights: 9/10
2. Interpol: 9/10
3. Antics: 8.5/10
4. Our Love to Admire: 7.5/10

Haven't heard El Pintor yet though.

Dunno, I've listened to it maybe 8 times and there are still several songs I can't remember. The really great moments on the album for me are Untitled, the last 40 seconds of Roland, and the first part of The New. The rest is kind of bland and forgettable.

you're just a weirdo

oh look it stopped snowing

The New (some of the best melodic moments and lyrics on the album and all the switch ups are refreshing and add to the song)
