Is anyone else fucking tired of alternative r&b?
The only good thing to come out of it last year was pic related.
Also new Sampha record is virtually nothing new.

Sampha's album is good man, only song I don't like is Blood on Me. Hated Kora Sings at first but it's a grower as fuck

I just finished listening to the new Sampha 5 minutes ago and I literally can't remember a single song off of it.

It's bound to burn out as a trend soon. Guitars likely headed for a comeback sooner or later.

>not a fan of Starboy, the monotonous moneygrab from popular artist, The Weeknd
such a letdown. Catchy tunes that sadly blend together.

Blood on Me is great man and Kora Sings is probably my favourite song on the album.

the chorus was terrible to me at first but I came around to appreciate it. Blood on Me I milked the shit out of it when it was released as a single so I can't stand it now

Won't deny the man's talent,he can definetely sing but his approach to r&B has been done before and better(James Blake,Twigs and arguably Jamie Woon)
The Weeknd hasn't been great for like 3 years.

only good thing sampha has done is trials of the past by sbtrkt and the only good thing frank ocean has done is disappear for a while. faggot

I just want Kanye to do a new 808s

he has
its called yeezus
I mean i hope Turbographx is more like 808s

Kanye is irrelevant except for P4K who are always late on trends.

The new Syd album is pretty enjoyable. My favorite r&b album in recent years has to be D'angelo's Black Messiah. It's so intense and interesting instrumentally, unlike so many r&b albums currently, which tend to emphasize vocal arrangements more than anything else. But hey, I did quite enjoy that Solange album, at least a few of the tracks...

>Kanye
>Irrelevant

I love this meme.

>so much modern r&b, funk and soul
>Sup Forums only talks about p4k/fantano hyped PBR&B

lol this board

Alt R&B just started to get good in the past 10 years maybe if that and it started in general like 20 years ago so I give it a good amount of room to grow. There needs to be someone coming up besides the same 5 or 6 artists that lead it though.

>>so much modern r&b, funk and soul

Where? enlighten us

Well D'angelo has never lost it,unless we count that time he was found with cocaine, but yeah the scene is pretty much stale right now.
Also I've revisited Solange's and can say it's a good album with excellent ideas very well executed(Don't Touch My Hair being my favorite) but it definetely did not deserve that much acclaim but oh well politics on an album.
Care to name some?I've been eager to listen to some exciting new r&b that brings new stuff to the table.

no

Thanks man. Will give them a listen.

This one was decent

it was

I agree. 7.5/10

More hip-hop desu.

Decent doesn't save a genre from being stale.
I like Anderson Paak tho.

The new Sampha feels heavily influenced by James Blake, but has some good songs. Reverse Faults and Under are the best imo.

Kinda wish 00s R&B would come back.

We need a new good Omarion album but his new music is trash.

Problem for me with many of these recs is that they seem to be geared more for revivalism than revision. They're definitely solid though.

Which is a shame because the nigga has so many underrated classics.
