This is true. I live in Los Angeles and see Scientologists everywhere. Missions and orgs are booming. Go to Hollywood Blvd and you'll see hundreds on some days, all having fun (or at least it looks like, I don't know, I'm not a member yet) and doing auditing and bettering themselves. They all seem to drive really nice cars and have great family lives, too. I wouldn't mess with them.

Well, you have to consider context. The man wrote for a penny a word in the pulp/post-pulp era. Some of it is dross, and the way that era influenced his style isn't to everyone's liking, but I'd put LRH up there with AE van Vogt, Cordwainer Smith, and even Heinlein in terms of talent and ability. All of his books aren't great, but there are some gems.
