What are some immediate red flags you get from people that signal a horrible music taste?

what are some immediate red flags you get from people that signal a horrible music taste?

they have friends and can have normal relationships with people
NORMIES GET OUT

if they like dr. who they probably listen exclusively to the hamilton mixtape and twenty one pilots

>I don't listen to albums

They wear any kind of band merch

they use beats headphones

They watch music awards and try to talk to you about them.

If they're a weeb they're nearly guaranteed to have shit music taste, often they like it because the band did the theme for their favourite pedophile ani-meh

They listen to any genre with "post" or "core" in its name

So what type of music do you like?
>oh I like a little bit of everything
What are some specific exapmles?
>insert late 2000's pop and 2010's rap

"I only listen to REAL (any fuckin genre here)"

these, also J-Pop, K-Pop etc
and if I ever hear anyone mention anything about AJJ I try to avoid them

They never say any music is explicitly bad, its just 'not their sort of thing'

Worst people

Which series? The 1963 series is great, the 2005 reboot is a fuckawful hotbed of bad memes and teen angst.

they mourned the death of bowie
they mourned the death of prince

But happy hardcore is fun.

They say things like this: "I don't like progressive rock" and "I don't like psychedelic rock"

They think the Beatles are the best band
They don't listen to albums / single songs
They use shuffled playlists
They use the term dubstep (incorrectly) or EDM

" I like droning guitars with faint singing"

KSHMR Hat, Kanye Shirt

>i like a little bit of everything
fucking this

you checked every single autism redflag of this god-awful board

They always listen to the same stuff over and over again.

This, anime fans have awful taste

>They think music today sucks
>They say "I listen to everything except X"
>They claim to know an artist enough so they can say they suck or are great when the only thing they have heard from them is some songs
>they think pop=top 40 shit
>they think that just because an artist made great things in a band their solo material is great
>They listen to music for the lyrics
>dude technical guitar playing lmao

So post-punk and post-rock isn't cool now?

This is accurate as fuck

this

they like those Facebook pages with really dumb ironic names like "tfw no qt indie gf who likes Shoegaze and The Smiths"

they like laurel halo or fire! Orchestra

>>They say "I listen to everything except X"
I unironically listen to everything but punk

hahahahah

>you listen to albums? who does that?
its perplexing knowing most people don't listen to albums or eps or anything just a song or two on youtube or the radio

People really don't listen to whole albums? I didn't know this was a common thing

shit taste

why?

no you don't

i think a few generations ago people would listen to albums more

Anyone that says "I was born in the wrong generation."

Yes. I have my iTunes set to album shuffle.

People that listen exclusively to Sup Forumscore

top 20 trap hip hop garbage

I have no problem with fans of fans of top 20 pop music but the shitty drake derivatives annoy me to no end, they think they're edgy by playing their safe accepted edgy hip hop ugh

I like classic Doctor Who, before it got picked back up

Season long arcs wrecked that show. It's not the same

They don't like any David Bowie record.

They're white.

They post in Sup Forums

Every single fucking time I try to make a new friend and eventually start talking about music, I'll ask them what they listen to and I can't begin to count the number of times they've said "A little bit of everything" before answering my follow up question of what their favorite artists are with 5 bands or artists in the same fucking genre it's seriously foolproof and happens every fucking time it never fails to internally enrage me

The majority of music they listen to is primarily composed of lyrics with very little instrumentation.

I think the problem is with you being autistic about it. A lot of people don't really care much about music, apart from having it as background noise for daily activities, and maybe having a few songs that they really enjoy when they come up on the radio. In which case, "a little bit of everything" is pretty much the only answer. My mother is like that, she listens to radio quite a bit, and she's fine with pretty much any station, whether it's country, classic rock, classical music, hip hop, top 40, etc. And I'm certain she couldn't even pick out a single artist as her favorite, much less 5 of them. Now, if you weren't a raging sperg you'd realize that, instead of expecting someone to reply to your follow-up question with something like Brahms, Hanatarash, Marduk, Oingo Boingo and Dolly Parton.

>They never say any music is explicitly bad, its just 'not their sort of thing'
this is the mark of a true patrician

fans of either Death Grips, Grimes or Animal Collective
the holy trinity of plebshit

>three of the most creative artists out there
>plebshit
I think the only pleb here is you, user.

If you think any of those are some of the most creative groups out there you really don't listen to enough music

Motion to make Chandler Bing Sup Forums's official mascot

>
>Which series? The 1963 series is great, the 2005 reboot is a fuckawful hotbed of bad memes and teen angst.
Implying bad memes and teen angst isnt a good thing

>oh I like a little bit of everything

I was this person.
I'm deeply ashamed of my past.

>uses beats headphones
>only listens to popular music
>claims to like everything but only knows popular 2000 to 2010s music
>listens to dupstep
>listens to k-pop

There are many, but some of my favourites include:

>"I listen to anything really"
>"I don't listen to albums"
>"Have you heard [x chart-artist's new song]?"

it's either twenty one pilots or christine and the queens

When I meet a girl and all she plays is shitty rap.
It never fails that she's not too smart and an asshole.
Also guys that beatbox for no reason. It's like fucking turrets. I stay away from them too

These are objectively true

this

>turrets

not tourette's, user?

They only listen to albums
They listen to multiple subgenres of just one genre and think they're eclectic
Write off genres based on image, fanbase or what Sup Forums told them

>letting a machine randomly decide what album you listen to next
I didn't know machines could be bulls

You couldn't be more wrong lol

seconded
throwback to one of my first tries at memes

>make a non-music related person a Sup Forums meme / mascot

Just how retarded are you?

Why make a socially deficient arrested adolescent who desperately hides his insecurities behind humour the mascot of Sup Forums?

I can't think of any reason.

You know what I meant

because this is a MUSIC board, not Sup Forums you fucking imbecile

They don't listen to the music just because it's popular
-
They think it's bad just because it's popular

Vaporwave

>Also guys that beatbox for no reason. It's like fucking turrets. I stay away from them too

I hate these guys so much. The problem with beatboxing is that it always tries to imitate an existing sound.

>not even being on one level of irony
Sorry hater, but my MQ is one of the highest! Don't feel bad or insecure though, I failed many times too.

>They don't listen to the music just because it's popular
I was this guy once.

The only valid one

I have a cool as fuck stereolab shirt with the Mars audiac ball thing how does that make me a pleb

Caring about shit like EDM and dubstep is a huge redflag

*and rap/trap

>tfw you actually listen to almost everything
>tfw you never know how to respond when someone asks about your music taste

>I listen to my music on YouTube

There is great dubstep, but there is also horrible brostep.

indeed

Been only listening to Built to Spill every day. It's been that way for years but I just can't get into anything else. I am not a snob. BTS is all I need. We all do.

The thing is, you surely know other good stuff, even if it's just basic RYMcore, like Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Pavement, the VU, Television, etc.
The people that user was talking about are like listening to the same set of 40-50 songs for years and years.

they still listen to pop punk

they like mozart but are completely clueless when it comes to any other classical music

>listens to only one and one genre only
>doesn't respect other genres
>gets offended when someone says that they don't like a certain genre of music

>likes guns and roses

Metalheads.

If instead of saying
>I dont like this
they say
>That music is shit
there is no way in hell i am ever taking any music suggestions from them, ever.

Well.. every music genre has got these types of people but yeah.. metalheads are kinda the most prominent ones

They are cool that child has no clue what hes talking about

>they like musicals
>they don't listen to albums
>they ever said the line "I like everything but country and hip-hop"
>their music playlist is indistinguishable from top 40 stations

>"the only REAL music is metal"
>"All pop is manufactured garbage that's being spilled out of uncreative minds, we need real anarchy in music again!!"
>"I hate pop but I love Twenty One Pilots"
the people i associate with are annoying

>there are actually "I listen to everything people" on Sup Forums
yup

>giving a presentation in econ about the Genius lyric website
>ask if anybody has ever downloaded/pirated music
>nobody raises their hand
>makes sense I guess, streaming services are pretty extensive
>ask if anybody has ever used Genius
>nobody raises their hand
>do they just never get curious about lyrics at all.........
lyrics aren't the only aspect of good music but still......

also lewronggeneration people annoy the heck out of me

You first, user.

You may think you've proven something by listing a couple dozen closely related types of Asian twing twang and challenging me to pick favourites, but you haven't. I've listened to and enjoyed Debashish Bhattacharya, Keyhan Kalhor, Zakir Hussain, Lalgudi Jayaraman and the list goes on. I'm conscious that I don't have a highly developed interest in EVERY kind of music, but I don't confine myself to a handful of genres either.

So fuck you with a hacksaw : )

This is almost exactly me except for the last 2

I'd go with Bandish, Kajari, and maybe Tappa. It's really difficult to pick a top 3 though, there are so many fantastic albums there.
