We regularly have Spanish Erasmus students at my university and some of them get easily offended when we start talking about Franco with them (he is seen as a kind of hero here). Two girls literally didn't talk to me anymore.

Franco and his legacy pretty much killed the right wing here. It's been 40 years and conservatism still hasn't recovered, it might take another generation for it to rebuild.

There is one influential professor here who popularises Iberian and Latin American conservative thinkers and his opinion is that in the late Franco's era his government was dominated by "technocrats" related to Christian democrats who actually didn't care about anything except for economy, the then the right didn't oppose strongly enought various postulates of the left.
