Good? Well, honestly, no. I'd say "alright" is also a bit generous. But it does fill a very beloved and often ignored niche. Prison drama. Oz wasn't that great a show either (killer fingernails, aging pills, nigger gums, etc.) but we overlooked those faults because watching the unique prison dynamic is really engrossing.
So, when the choice is between nothing and this show, OITNB is good enough to warrant viewing.

This is a show about the horrors of a female prison, and how most of these people were just "caught up in some bad shit" and are people just like us, but they are uneducated and disgusting individuals who deserve nothing but scorn from their betters. The repeated attempts to humanize these people are corny as hell and forced. But the worst thing about this show is that it portrays a prison, a Federal Penitentiary, like it was fucking summer camp, with a loudspeaker calling people to the Warden's office not unlike an episode of Saved by the Bell. THen there's the scene where the black women are talking about Game of Thrones, for no reason other than to reference Game of Thrones. How the fuck would these inmates know about Game of Thrones? From reading the episode summaries in year-old TV guides? Bad show.

The characters on the show are stagnant, literally, they are stuck in the same place. There is no opportunity for growth: Red is always gonna be a respected authority, Crazy-Eyes is always gonna say something nonsensical, Piper's always gonna be the fish out of water, etc. The only season of this show that felt different was season 2 because they went full Oz and introduced the villain Vee, who was admittedly an interesting character but TOO interesting, and made the show more dramatic than it was ever going to be.
