What is the most beautiful anime movie you've seen (no studio ghibli)
What is the most beautiful anime movie you've seen (no studio ghibli)

Do shorts count?
Metropolis is fucking gorgeous, so probably that.
Any of the Genius Party shorts are usually pretty fantastic.
Sword of the Stranger's choreography is fucking 11/10
In terms of visuals, any Shinkai film tends to have good art.
The Garden Of Words.
sure
That magnetic rose one was nice
Any of satoshi kons movies. Wolf children is up there though.
Redline
Angel's Egg
Perfect Blue
Cat Soup (inspired by nekojiru's comedic macabre shorts) is a psychedelic beautiful 34 minute trip
definitely recommend watching the cat soup theater shorts and the short film
Either of Yamada's films. I can't wait for Silent Voice.
No wait, changing my answer, it's this. 100%, Cat Soup is a fucking masterpiece.
Princess Mononoke.
I've always wanted to watch the Jin-Roh.
This or Ghost in the Shell
u idito that is ghible
bakakakaka
It's not "anime", but I've recently fallen in love with Song of the Sea. The movie looks amazing, and almost every fucking frame is gorgeous and would make an awesome wallpaper.
Gonna dump some high res screengrabs for funsies.

Came here to post this

Secret of Kells was nice as well.
stop spamming
this looks like shit you would find on a tumblr blog
You should.
Yeah, but they really stepped their game up here imo.
Is he alright, does he get a robo upgrade?
Nah. It's cool though, he was a dick.
Masaaki Yuasa is my favorite animator.
The Utena movie probably, or just the original GITS.
Yeah, it's gotta be Cat Soup.
Belladonna of Sadness is my second.
Bones back with they were great
The CGI in Innocence sucks. Pretty much the biggest black mark against the movie.
idk about beautiful, but i liked it.
YIFF IN HELL FURSHITS
Summer Wars?
the boy and the beast
Objectively correct answer.
Story was meh but holy shit that animation.

This. The animation was absolutely beautiful.
mind game
> Bones
The RuroKen OVAs were done by Studio Deen.
That's my favorite.
It does exactly what it was intended to do, which is make the imagery look more surreal.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Still looks like shit.
>no blu ray release
Recently watched Metropolis for the first time and was blown away by how great the animation looks. I don't know if it was just the character design but it reminded a lot of classic Disney like Pinocchio.
The series cowboy bebop was cool
The ending was kinda sad thought
Sounds interesting. I'll have to check that out.
is 'spike dies at the end' still a thing? does that meme still exist?
The op is pretty good
While its pretty to look at I didn't really find it impressive. To me it clearly just looked like they painted over photographs to make it look realistic and after doing a little research I found out that's exactly what they did. The actual animation isn't anything amazing.
It's a good show
Just watch the movie after the series
Garden of Words. It's so beautiful.
Don't know
the part i find sad is that they each go their own way
Kinda like your friends after highschool
Have you seen K-On? It'll break you.
Well might as well give it a try
As long as it has real ending and not a bland school setup harem ettc
Shame it's also such a piece of shit.
It's got a fantastic conclusion. Despite looking fairly derivative it's really one of a kind, you can tell just from watching just how much work went into the series. Perfectly captures the feelings of adolescence, that separation and growing-up anxiety you mentioned as well.
Hum ok sounds nice i will give a try
thanks
Astro boy recourse
K-ON is garbage, don't bother.
At least let him decide for himself, eh?
Wasn't that the most expensive one right next to steamboat chronicles
Wait till you see it in motion, bro.
I've seen maybe one anime movie that wasn't Dragon Ball.
and that was Dragon Ball Evolution. if that doesn't count as beautiful, I guess Akira.
The live action version?
DB Evolution yeah is beautiful.
5 centimeters per second
Only Yesterday(Ghibli but not many people have seen it)
Wings of Honneamise
Adolescence of Utena
Grave of the fireflies is the only movie that has managed to make me cry.
Haven't watched it in ages so i might be remembering it as being better than it actually is.
...
Cowboy Bebop
Azumanga Diayo, that slice of life was too sweet to part with
Outlaw Star, I'm talking about the battles in space, with the harmonicas blaring and the friends dying.
Samurai Champloo had a nice aesthetic, particularly with Nujabes being the composer for the show.
And of course, Paprika.
Le end yourself
NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind
>no ghibli
>thick girl meets quiet boy
>drama and happy ending
fucking yawn
NausicaƤ wasn't Ghibli, it was made before Ghibli existed
that's what they said about warcraft
It looked so great, but the story was a mess.
What a fucking trip
beautiful considering everything is hand drawn and the era of which it was done
All Makoto Shinkai movies look great, but this one is my favorite.
Naruto vs. Pain
...
Yeah, leave drawkino to the Irish.
70 animu erotica had great atmosphere
I don't think it, or Kells, looks very good. The cinematography is cartoonishly flat, and the character designs and animation are primitive.
Sure, if you completely ignore that Japan exists.
Fuck Japan. Seriously. They make good vidya, but they can't into film. Animated or not.
...
Go back to Sup Forums with pleb opinions or do yourself a favour watch Seven Samurai.
They make the best animated movies and shows in the world, have a prestigious history with live action cinema and still put out quality movies.
Keit-ai.
>a cartoon looks like a cartoon
I watched it. It was okay, but I don't see what the big fuss is about.
Probably Akira, if for no other reason than for the fact that the entire film is animated in 1s.
>I don't think it, or Kells, looks very good. The cinematography is cartoonishly flat, and the character designs and animation are primitive.
I've never called anyone a pleb before, but it's tempting.
FINDS
>a cartoon looks like a cartoon
That's exactly the problem.
Why would you call me a pleb?
But the question is, have you guys gone the extra mile and watched the other 2 films.
One I think is a masterpiece, albeit really fucking trippy and surreal. The other is FUCKING BORING. It's so boring that the other one is 30 minutes longer and yet this one FEELS longer.
Tezuka has always looked like that.
