this is fucking great, bookmarking for later!

Hey guise, I want to ask a question.
I make noise/ field recording / experimental for a while now(soundcloud.com/nqmanikoi), a while enough for me to feel some sense of right in my work. I don't feel like soundcloud is what I need to lead my music to it's listeners, even if I'm more than happy with the platform and some of the artists on it. I was thinking about taking a step, I don't really have a definitive plan right now, but I do want to be able to distribute my music more widely, to people actually interested in it, maybe even put out some tapes.
How do I go about that? I believe what I do is worth it, but I'm not sure that's the right think to do.
What's your experience with the platform, how did it change the way you think and produce your music? How many of you have a label or have independently put out tapes? Did it lead to some live performance, because what I think about what I want to do with what I do I think about live performances, since my framework and my idea of music is already performative, theatrical.

thanks!

i want to answer something, but honestly, i never think about the platform or how i put out my music. but the platform gave me more than 3.5k downloads already, so it works i guess.

Soundcloud always feels like a sketchpad, whereas when releasing music it needs to be carefully pared back to fit a certain theme and for quality control.

I can't really talk about Bandcamp as a platform, but as for releasing tapes and things in general there needs to be a leap of faith on your part and a lot of networking, sending stuff to reviewers etc.

- honest to god, finding your listeners is done through social media now. Be interesting online. Make people follow you without the music. then they will be attracted to the music as well. It kinda blows to keep up with sometimes but its one good way of reaching your fans.

yeah exactly. In my first year I was alright with putting out sketches, but as of late I feel more, I don't want to say "proud" or "alright", but I feel worth in what I do. I prepare the release, master it as well as I can, draw a cover and then post it. And all I get is some 20+ listens from people I had to like and follow first and fucks me up.
Because in the end I get farther from my music, I get bullshited into fake jealousy, I join a fight I don't want to be into and this really saddens me and I know it's foolish so I abstain from that.
What I do isn't perfect, it's not well produced, but it's not meant to and that's what has been distancing me from bc.

did you made any promotion outside of here for you page?

I'm this idiot: Re-turned!
I find it funny how that Raidohead-y part is actually quite accurate. I think in the featured song your voice is way too loud comparable to other tracks which is just me cherry picking. From the short listens of each track I find that it may make me feel a little tired because of the lack of variety but maybe the later parts of the tracks kick things a little bit. I can't recommend but it's a good try, a well executed one and, aside of the vocals issue, well-mixed.

Wow. Just wow. This is some next level "ugh." right there. Lost for words.

Those fucking vocals. These are ruining so much. Work on them. Now. Literally now. Aside of that - decent but it doesn't invoke any sort of emotional connection with me, sorry.

Bad. Plain and simple. Silenced electric guitar (or noises of some sort) only infuriates me and the lack of quality in this thing is graciously sad. Nothing makes it even funny good. Nothing makes it original or though out. Sadly, I feel a big "nope.".

You guys do need a better recording equipment. For a current state point - a solid effort that just have a problem of quality if it comes to the recording. And, please, less irony. And better cover too.

I love you too.
But not literally, sorry.

I'm quite sad that it's so quiet here. Not in terms of getting stuff here but critique, discussions, actual conversations. Dead land almost.

myself : : I posted in the other bandcamp/soundcloud thread what I liked about this, so rec
Did you take the cover photo? From the thumbnail it looks photoshopped but seeing it large makes me wonder if you really have all that blue sand.
Again, posted about you in the other thread, but rec here too

Imagine old AFI but with blast beats. Or Pig Destroyer but with choirs and power metal shredding. Or like really skateable avant-grind.

These guys are all right, I remember them from the last time I posted, which was probably like a year ago now.
This is decent. First song reminded me of Anamanaguchi a bit. The other songs not so much but it was still good. I like your visual aesthetic much more than your music. Cool album cover.
I remember you guys too, fucking live it. Weed bong lol.
Has potential but I found the way you used samples to be extremely distracting.

Samples from Melvins, Boris, Earth. Some of it is turned into house music and some of it is recycled into more drone.
Enjoy~
yeahhhh. Sounds like this was fun to record but it's not fun to listen to. This is just a mess, sounds like no two instruments are in tune with one another, the singing is just... bad. Sorry guys.
Pretty good, though the drums sound a bit weak at times. Like the kick and snare don't have enough impact to make those blast beats as effective as they could be. The guitar playing is pretty damn nice, cool riffs and noise, and the melodies are catchy. Great stuff.
Okay, the first track has 2 false starts whiich is pretty weird. The mastering on this track could use some work, as it's obviously clipping. The weird delay is also getting in the way of a good beat. Most of your tracks suffer from the same problems.

>this is a lifetime project i've worked on with another dude called vanni
>we met ten years ago and became fast friends
>we enjoyed the same kind of shit like joanna newsom and lubos fiser
>we formed a band with some other dudes
>me and vanni sucked as players but wanted to songwrite and carefully plan how the songs should sound like
>the rest of the band were great players but more focused on improvisational skills and jamming
>vanni was the sole composer at the time and grew frustrated and deserted the band
>we had a fight and our friendship ended that night
>as no one in the band had any songwriting skills, i felt i had to step up
>i always saw vanni's songwriting as god tier
>began working hard on writing songs trying to get to his level. could never do it
>dedicated my entire free time to songwriting
>presented my best ones to the band, they all liked them
>we never rehearse them, rehearsal consists mostly of jams and improvs
>when some catchy riff turns up in those jam sessions I write them down to develop
>go home and work hard on them
>lose lots of hours of sleep over it to try to finish on time for the next rehearsal giving enough time for each band member to learn his parts
>we never rehearse them, rehearsal consists mostly of jams and improvs
>this vicious cicle goes on for two years
>i now understand vanni
>leave the band
>forget all about music, life goes on
>years go by and i hear from vanni. we make our peace
>we become fast friends
>we still enjoy the same kind of shit like joanna newsom and lubos fiser
>one day the idea of forming another band comes up
>everybody is older now, probably more responsible
>I show him my songs and he absolutely loves them. he tells me i became a better songwriter than he is
>even though i disagree that was very important to me
(continued)

>we get in touch with the former band members and they agree to play exactly what we write, no jams, no improvs
>me and vanni furiously revamp and develop our old songs
>we never rehearse them, rehearsal consists mostly of jams and improvs
>me and vanni look at each other and just say: "fuck it"
>they might be good players and good singers but we will never make the same mistake we did in the past
>decide we will take matters into our own hands and record this fucking album ourselves and stop depending on others
>we suck as players but we will do it our way, with crappy equipments and instruments and no recording skills to speak of
>even if the results are ridiculous we are driven to get some closure on this chapter of our lives
>meet every sunday for two years and songwrite and furiously record take after take until we get one that is not disgustingly bad
>release it and hear from former bands how much they liked it and wished they could had been a part of it

so here it is, Sup Forums. this is a piece of my soul, a meta commentary on my friendship with vanni and the sum of everything i have in me musicwise. this is my best shot and even if it's not professional, i'm fucking proud of it
