Which college degrees should I avoid?

better yet, stick to STEMs

all of them if you live in america

Fuck STEM, stick to Management, Law, Accounting, Statistics, or if you must STEM avoid Chemistry and Biology.

My degree is in Psychology. Pretty cool but you need a doctorate to do anything worthwhile. My children all have degrees as teachers, Underpaid and underappreciated. STEM - or nothing in today's economy.

IF YOU WANT ALL THE MONEY JUST STEAL IF YOU WANT KNOWLEDGE GO TO COLLEGE FOR SOMETHING REAL

More like if you're smart go into STEM, if not try your luck at business or law or accounting. If you cant hack that then take up a trade (they actually pay pretty well and no crushing debt).

If you make bad decisions and hate yourself go to college for arts or sociology.

Take it from a musician.... avoid anything you think you can teach yourself.

If you habe ambition and know how to code, you don't really need college.

If you do choose to go to college, whatever field you choose, make connections and build your network, with professors, students and fucking everyone, especially if they're in other fields. I was a shut in during college and now I walk dogs and play bar gigs for money.

actually, you can get a six figure salary from women studies.

you can't make money in arts?

if you got the right connections/network or make a name for yourself

only if you're a MAN

Statistics is STEM you retard

>britfag
>top 50 University in the world
>Politics and Sociology

Speaking from experience arts only works if you plan on specialised postgraduate (ie law) or you have a job lined up for you after graduation.

Otherwise unless it's Oxbridge don't fucking bother, not even from a supposedly 'good' university.

This applies to the UK not the US but I'm putting it here anyway because I'm extremely fucked off about my whole degree.

Anything that doesn't have to do with your biggest obsession.
College is hard. Unless you naturally want to dedicate hours to it, you're hopeless.

STEM doesn't pay that well though. CPAs, finance guys, and lawyers are breaking 200k easily enough all while never being challenged intellectually. Why bother with STEM unless you have horrible social skills?

Continued..

If any of you basement dwellers want an honest account of woman's studies (it's covered under sociology in the UK) just ask away.

I've been to Mordor so can tell you what it's actually like.

Doing what? Being a professional priveledge checker?

VCR repair

those things so cheap now i just throw it out and get a new one

STEM degrees can be just as useless as a BFA now days, its all about what you can do with the knowledge.

>if youre a woman

All of them. You're just gonna die anyway.

Underwater basket weaving is not a viable career path.

that's a powerful enough reason to avoid everything ever

You either have to be really good or know the right people.

Music is full of big fish in small ponds. Meaning a lot of people think they're good until they go to where real musicians gather, like Nashville, or New York

I knew at least one of you faggots came here.

>Nashville

eh?

That's why I don't do shit with my life but play vidya and smoke pot.

Will find it rather hard to keep up this life style once my parents get fed up with my shit though

Triple dubs has spoken. Heed this advice.
I'd say go into comp sci or electrical engineering. Personally, im getting a bachelors in electrical then going into the workforce and getting my company to pay for my MBA, which will get me into a management position.

They need women studies majors for presidential campaign teams to reach the female demographics. The average pay is six figures when in a position of that level.

in all honesty get a degree that will help you in government, the way things are headed the future is going to be full on global communism so the further up the government ladder you are the more perks you will have

not making any guarantees, but if things do go that far south not being in government will mean you're a prol worker class whose only choice other than labor is forced labor

Anything with the words "studies" or "social" attached. "Human" is ok for courses in medical fields, but not for degree titles.

Yes, Nashville. It's not just country folk who go there. It's a music Hotspot. Seriously, a lot of people get noticed there

Architecture.
Seriously.
Don't.

Hey saw this chick on tinder...

Also, electricsn engineering. So fucking hard

Femanon here

Fell for the feminism meme and now I have a shitty job teaching gender studies at a high school w/ a gender studies degree

I wish I could go back to school and do STEM or something law related but muh debt

Do whatever you like, use generals to explore your interests. Just don't do gender studies

>go into muh management
>avoid biology

don't fall for the standard STEM meme, if you wanna go into the sciences, go into a technician form of your major i,e, chemical engineering, bioinformatics, math modeling in applicable fields like sports or molecular simulation.

Going into human biology or biochemistry you're just asking for anyone from china to outsource your ass.

Hey anons

Going in for Environmental Science. Thougts?

Pretty much avoid touchy-feely stuff, like Women's Studies, Art, Music, languages. The classes where you learn stuff that will set you apart are Calculus through basic integration with trigonometric substitution, a year of physics, a semester of chemistry and biology each, and maybe a second if you're interested, geography 1, one language all through college, but not as a major, economy 1, and history of your country. If there are practical courses in something constructive, like welding, foundry, construction, do one or two of those.

What you end up with is a great rounding of education. The only times you'll need more semesters of any of those is if you decide to major in them. You will need to pick something eventually, but it doesn't have to be something ball-busting. There aren't many jobs that require esoteric science degrees (physics, chem,, bio, math...), so as long as you don't go for something totally My Little Pony, you should do well by performing well at any job through a good education.

Also, protip: take a year off and travel completely outside your country, preferably also not on your continent. This will change your entire thinking pattern.

Thanks user, saving this post.
Having second thoughts on uni, but I'm not willing to live my entire life as a wage slave.
How's the workload in this? Sounds excessive.
Is this from experience, or just general advice?

Also, sounds like it'd cost a fuckton.

How do you fund a year off from school without taking courses abroad, though?

Here's a degree that is totally you:

University of Arizona will officially launch America’s first transgender studies program

Who's the girl?

>70707

wow

It depends on how you are as a learner. I'm studying Product Design/Industrial Design (I know it could be self taught..) but the main thing I am gaining from it is networking, real world experience & discipline. So arts degrees can be valuable, if you're willing to put the hours in to kiss people's arses. Which is definitely needed.

Can you show me sources on this?

whats the pay?

YOUR DEGREE AND GPA DOESN'T MATTER.

The only thing that matters is networking/internships while in school.

Although, do not do like political science or education. Those careers are fucked, unless you are extremely passionate.

Anything to do with SJWism.

>Is this from experience, or just general advice?
Experience. Be careful though. I'm 60, and the world was different when I was what I imagine your age is.

>Britbong.
>Fucked my GCSEs
>Fucked my AS/A levels
>Lazy af as a kid.
I wanna turn my life around and go to uni, is there hope for me Sup Forums???
Need something to define me to a job market, my resume is shit in terms of academics.

You are a retard. How do you think you get internships other than degree and gpa? and networking comes from credentials which is also from degree and gpa. Of course it helps not to be an autist like you too.

STEM doesn't pay well? Dafuq? I make 200K plus benefits and my degree has fuck-all to do with what I do, although it is technical in nature. And I'll never want for a job. I get 3-4 calls a month based on a LinkedIn profile I haven't updated in over a year.

Considering aerospace engineering or computer science. Thoughts?

And right about that of the average Starbucks barista if you're not, which is most of them.

If you're getting an arts degree, it's worthless unless you meet people that make it worthwhile. E.G. those 4 years in college are for networking, nothing else.
This advice applies to any degree, but especially arts. They're not always hiring at the music factory, is what I'm saying.
If you're in US, get your RN and move to CA. My wife makes $50 an hour after ~3 years of working, and that's in addition to her other job at Kaiser with sweet fuckin benefits and 48/hr; works four days a week and brings in ~8k/month between the two, fluctuates a bit depending on OT and hours, but it's fucking solid as shit.

What was your degree and your job?

Well 50$ an hour in cali, is like only 30$ an hour after taxes

I'll confess, I was lucky - my parents lived overseas, so I had a base to start from. So this point is kind f unfair. But if you can pull it off, it's worth a lot. One more protip if you do: keep it to yourself. No-one wants to hear about it unless they ask for stories. It's one if the curses of international exposure.

You might be able to volunteer for some charitable organization. Once you graduate, you'll have skills that can be used.

Take a small trip to start with. Sounds like you're in Europe. Take a bike/train trip, and see how much it really costs to live young. Maybe even a few trips even if it's not off the European continent - different cultures are very close by. Try and get a buddy to go with you. It's more fun, safe, convenient to go as a team.

If you have a friend who lives elsewhere, be bold and ask if you can spend any time - a week would be generous - to get a foothold.

If you can play any instrument, busking is viable for occasional help.

There are books on traveling on the cheap. I would never suggest hotels. You don't learn much there except protocol. Which is useful too, but not what you're looking for.

have tax babies. Our effective tax rate was ~5% last year on ~115k.
but yeah, cost of living is high as fuck. I'm assuming OP is a single dude, in which case he can live in a shitbox studio apartment, commute on a motorcycle, and bank most/all of his money for ~3-5 years and then go wherever and do whatever the fuck he wants.
Hell, at that point, RN is still bomb as shit; be a travel RN, work for a cruise line, or airline, or anything that sends you everywhere. Pay's not as good but if you're not chained down, that's not as important.

I have $11M from inheritance and I'm too afraid to invest it. Hell I'm living in a ghetto ass neighborhood because I'm scared of spending money on a nicer place.

8k a month aint shit in cali bro. minus tax and living expenses and you are barely middle class. at 48 hrs a week that shit tier. Cali standards you are definitely the welfare couple out of your friends circle.

go to a trade school, learn a skill you will actually be able to get a job with

Are you just speaking for him? and do you know how much babies fucking cost? you can't work effectively even 40 hrs a week with two or even one baby.

pro-tip, dont live somewhere shitty like cali

put your shit in a low risk mutual; $11M should pay out 6 figures in interest alone. Get a job somewhere and live a good life knowing that you can shit on your boss's desk if they're a twat.
As for where to live, don't blow your money. Buy a decent house in a decent neighborhood (dunno your area but where I am, that's ~180k-350k, esp if you're single), then when you get bored of that house or decide to move up and out, either flip and sell (depending on market) or rent out. Build a rental portfolio and more money will come flowing in.
When you have that much money, it's pretty hard not to be set for life, assuming you don't fuck yourself over by gambling, marrying someone who's a retard/conniving bitch (not to be MRA here, but if you don't know someone BEFORE you have money, it's difficult to trust them AFTER they find out you have money; same with friends, not just romantic partners), and don't buy a bunch of stupid expensive shit like cars and boats.

damn your life is so hard, i feel so sorry for you.

I never said we were rich; I said we were comfortable. 8k a month is plenty; own a home (already with ~60-80k in equity), two cars, motorcycle, have 4 kids, disney passes, creature comforts, cash in the bank, can do whatever we want in the short term, and we're both under 30. It's not the end goal, but it's a better start than other degrees.

>put your shit in a low risk mutual;
And how does one acquire this "shit"?

Biology degree in 2010, now I'm a physician, killin it right now. U mad bro?

Probably will wind up moving at some point in next ~5 years or so. I'm going back to school myself to get a better degree (music major first time lel) and then after that we'll go wherever the fuck we want.

why are you giving this ungrateful unable spoiled pussy fuck advice?

>Biology degree in 2010, now I'm a physician, killin it right now. U mad bro?

how's your student debt?

You don't avoid chemistry and biology if you are going pre med, you concentrate on them.

squat over a toilet after drinking a pot of coffee.

idfk that dude says he already has 11M, which, were it to be true, is a lot of shit.

Did I say you said you were rich? Glad you're happy but I would do life much differently than you personally out of my opinions that wasting money and time is a bad thing.

haven't shitposted on b in a few months, was getting itchy

Considering how much focus in the science field there is on climate change, weather and the environment at the moment, I'd imagine there'd be opportunity in Environmental Science.

B.Sc. in Computer Science at King's College London

you went to med school too to become a physician. So not just a biology degree, but also an MD and a few years of internship. So no, I am not mad in any way considering I will be getting my ME BS in only three years time instead of the recommended 5 years from UW and be making 90k a year + 50% bonus + overtime + whatever else I get from capital gains. so about 200k a year.

Opposite of rich is welfare, opposite of welfare is rich; apologies for extrapolating a bit more than you apparently were implying.

Not saying it's the best choice with everything, but for people who have no idea what they want to do, it's a good start.

Really, any degree that leads directly to a job is a good choice for the average person. If someone's not driven enough to already be planning on Lawyer/MD/Pharmacologist/Chemist/Whatever, then they probably want a job that they can work the least amount and get the most amount back. Either get an MBA and rot in corporate hell as a mid-level manager somewhere, or go into the medical field. If you're aiming for medical field and don't want to do MD (crushing student debt, soul crushing work, 80 hour work weeks for first decade or so of career, not to mention depending on how good they are as a student they can always wash out and fuck themselves completely), then RN is a good entry job that can lead to an administrative path, a quality/peer development path, an education path, or any of a number of other things.
I wasted my time getting a shit degree because I was young and naive and listened to my parents. If I could go back in time ~15 years I would do things a lot differently too.

>graphic design is so fucking useful

shoulda gotten a degree in how to suck better cock with no degree needed.

debt is the single most stupid shit anyone can do to themselves these days. not gonna say don't go to college, but be prepared to pay debts for years and run into people who do the same tasks you can--and they have no degree or debt.

Not you again...

If you spend all your time here you'll fail.

Get studying.

1.re-sit gcse maths and english
2. do an access to HE course at local college
3. ????
4. profit

I am an autist. An autist that makes six figures.

I guess I am being a cynical judgemental prick. I just fear a wasted life of not reaching full potential. The fact YOLO scares the shit out of me especially since developing a chronic disease. So now I am this overly goal-oriented success chasing fuck.

Yeah your money won't buy you friends or love or confidence. Nice try tho.

Be a lawyer niggers need lawyers

go to med school, niggers are always shooting each other

They can't afford lawyers or doctors tho.

emergency department cant charge them
thanks a lot obama

I don't blame you. The whole reason I'm going back to school now is because I feel as though my first degree was a giant fucking waste of time. Got my BA in 2009 and then worked 4 years for a cell phone company, 2 years for Apple. Made good enough money and benefits for my wife to finish school, but still, if I could go back, I'd probably do med school or something like that so that I'd have had an actual job on graduating.

> unless you have no social skills
Do you not know where you are?

My uncle is a lowyer and he is a pointed a guy for the nigs Rights

What is wrong with the degree in graphic design?
I actually plan on going for that next year.

But a lot of nigs owe him some serious money
