Aside from the obvious fact that metalheads are the most militant fanbase in music

Terminal Redux didn't break /metal/, /metal/ broke /metal/ using Terminal Redux. At the time Terminal Redux was coming out it was receiving wide acclaim, days before the album was released reviews poured out hailing it as the best album of the year, one of the shining gems in modern thrash, it had seemingly endless adoration. So, to counteract this, a few people on /metal/ just spammed the album before its release. The posts were inane and stupid, usually being a picture of the album with a post saying "Vektor - Terminal Redux". But as one spammer started doing his work, the other shitpost-hungry fiends on /metal/ followed suite and carried what he was doing. At the time Terminal Redux came out /metal/ was already in dire straits, Terminal Redux wasn't some out-of-nowhere meme which killed the general, its spread was a symptom of /metal/'s decline, and the spamming of Terminal Redux became a beacon of hope for the shitposters in /metal/. For weeks /metal/ was inundated with threads consisting of Terminal Redux spamming, threads would seem to hit bump limit in just an hour with nothing but Vektorposting. For the first time the general had it's "last thread" where everyone wanted to just let the place die for a bit (if not forever). After that /metal/ was just never the same, Jessieposter and the riffs vs atmo war might've been where the cancer started forming, but Terminal Redux was what was necessary to really spread it. There's a difference in pre-Terminal Redux /metal/ and post-Terminal Redux /metal/. Sure /metal/ had its shitpost and memes before TR but they still felt like organic and naturally evolving inside jokes. Terminal Redux was a giant forced meme made to be as unfunny and forced as possible, and after TR shitposters became desperate trying to turn any album/band into a meme that they could (Winds Of Creation, By Inheritance, Gojira), now it seems that posting an album three times in a thread is all it takes before it becomes shitpost central.
