Bump

Sounds like its working. Maybe instead of breaking down and crying you could use the passiveness to confront your shit?

I can't even sleep, i feel i should have a panic attack, but i can't get it, now i'm just shaking in my bed and feeling like my skin is burning

I've been on prozac for roughly the same time as you. I kicked it to try acid and havent gone back. I had a great cry the other day and felt a huge rush. Been so long It was hard to get going. Try to focus, prozac sapped me of that.

maybe upgrade to a SNRI?

a lot of people are given prescriptions for antidepressants just because they're sort of down at the time, due to loss of a partner, or loss of a job, or just generally feeling like the world sucks. they don't help, because the reason you're feeling down doesn't go away. you're left feeling like a walking corpse.

if your life is pretty good and you feel like drowning yourself every god damned day, THEN you might need antidepressants. otherwise they don't help.

btw if you're going to give them up, don't go cold turkey - for fuck's sake taper off slowly, or your brain will turn to puddi. you don't want to end up like me, do you? no, you don't.

most people having a bad time taking antidepressants is from shitty psychiatrists. It's normal to feel sad whenever you want, but if it happens all the time uncontrollably, SSRIs (and exercise and light therapy) are the best treatment. Unfortunately everyone's brain chemistry is different, and these drugs fuck with it while trying to help you. So it's normal to assume 2-4 weeks of uncomfortable adjustment to the medicine. If you feel much worse, tell your doc and get it switched in the first couple weeks. But you gotta stick it out. When they do work, they often start off giving you shit feelings, but suddenly you're feeling great a month so into the new med and dosage. But that's the miscommunication between docs and mental illness sufferers. See your psychiatrist monthly until you think the pills are working adequately and you feel legit better. It does happen often. Just say what aspects you want improved. I needed energy, anxiety, and motivating. Current golden regime is somethin like Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Remeron. Prozac is a great staple to try first. Thing with the whole random brain chemistries, even new dosages of SSRIs can be as significantly different as another pill entirely. Anyway point is, you gotta go through some shit to get through the shit that is depression or anxiety. Keep at it and go to your doctor as often as possible, because if you're like me, you'll miss a lot of appointments before you start feeling better. Med school works guys, but it is dumb, would not recommend.

its fine to change your meds often, just do it with a good doctor's help. Sometimes you gotta find a better doc for your needs. Always go to apsychiatrist fpr mental issues unless you believe the slump to be very temporary. Please don\t suddenly stop taking pills without consultation, or you most likely will feel worse. Jjust straigh up ask to be tapered off current med asap and put on a new. Good luck man, you can do it. Try to be optimistic and faggy

>Always go to a psychiatrist fpr mental issues unless you believe the slump to be very temporary.

You mean instead of a PsyD or therapist?

Feel like they do meme-tier shit that goes nowhere.

no. and they do. There are a magnitude more of shitty psychologists/therapists/counselors. again you gotta shop around and find a counselor/therapist you can really talk and work with, their degree is of little relevance now. You have to just talk with em. Psychiatrists are doctors. They are specialists in mental health and can offer so much more specialized and effective care than general docs.

That's what you get for being a goy of the pharmaceutical industry.

sorry misread. Yes i do mean go to psychiatrist doctor AND psychologist or otherwise friendly therapist. Mental illness needs to be attacked on multiple fronts. It really is you in the end who figures it all out though.

Psychiatrists suck often because they have far too many patients and meet too infrequently. Good ones learn what's going on in your life and make frequent adjustments and recommendations. Some give a quick pay day by throwing you on the treatment normal curve/step system.

fuck the big pharma man. its mostly americas shitty laws fault that makes the greedy fucks go ape shit when their money is at stake. Pharmacology is crazy good science ruined by poor PR and what not.

SSRIs exist only to get you addicted so you keep taking them. Cut that stupid shit out and smoke some weed.

I've been on prozac and amitriptyline for 6 months now , I just feel tired all the time. What should the effects be like?
I don't feel better at all , maybe a bit worse.....

Oh.

But therapists are specialists in mental health too. I wasn't talking about GPs.

I figure psychiatrists are actual MDs, and only psychiatrists can prescribe meds, right? I haven't been to one and am curious to try. Even with therapists that try to be more scientific I feel like they fumble around and can't explain things, and someone with proper medical training might be better?

Been there dude. It's like you're about to get your nut and some relief but it's just not happening. Like a sneeze that stalls out. You need to calm your prescriber dude. Seriously.

the effects should be a mood boost to help you on your healing way. If you just feel tired, it isnt doing enough or is being negative. Tell your doc. Try a higher dose, if it gets worse switch/taper off, but its likely to get better. Depression is hard and sucks but DONT SETTLE FOR A MEDICINE. You have a say and there are tons of drugs to work with, give a few a chance. Get generic too

weed is dangerous for mental illness because it lets you get real comfortable in your misery. Best recomendation is to try and t break frequently, try stopping entirely for up to a month or two and see if you feel better. Weed can be a sort of SSRI, so remember your mixing in a confound to your medicine regime. I luckily finally found my meds that work while allowing me to stay stonerific

Hadn't seen this yet Sooo basically it's the "most practitioners are shit" and "be your own advocate" shit that's familiar from physical health care.

God that shit is tiring.

you know psych students? those are the therapist. only some are legit smart. Find one you think fits the bill. Only MDs can prescribe. Try your family/general doc first with a simple drug dose, but if it doesnt help within a couple months of trying and adjusting, you need more expert help and should make the effort to find a good psychiatrist. Sometime, albeit riskier, universities offer any kind of treatment you could imagine for free while performing research studies if you fit their need. TMS is something fun to look into.

its not that the practitioners are shit exactly, though i did say that. Its the rigidity of our systems. Everyone needs the same top grade to get in med school where you can try learning a mjaor fuckton of info...but you literally cant learn it all or remember it all. google is a doctor's best friend. Find someone with their credentials and just meet them like a date. They are your employee, find one you like. No one is forcing you in anything

Common side effect. I had to shoot up heroin to cry.

oh too high for this shit. med students are very easily stereotyped in our mass population statistic causing world. And id say most I met are super smart but have no idea whatsoever about anything they havent been told by a teacher explicitly. Shit is dangerous. Just look out for what's best for you, but remember you have an evil kermit invader who is real annoying and likes to stay in bed.

Evil kermit invader?

You know what is best for yourself, but sometimes you dont wanna do that thing or its too hard. Totes fine. Just dont fall into the trap of only listening to this inner conscious trying to fuck you over and help you at the same time.

Yes, I know undergrad psych students are the retards at their universities. Not all non-MD therapists are the same though. PsyD (doctorate) seems better than LMFT (master's, basically social workers).

Been navigating the system for a while and still finding out new stuff. You'd think the people who work in it could explain it better. Recently learned there are different levels of diagnostic capability too.

>med school
Except that only psychiatrists went to med school. Therapists usually did not.

And yes, medicine (like law), short of surgery (and maybe trial law), is people who are glorified expert systems. The sooner they are replaced by computers, the better.

Can relate , I've always got an' evil kermit' whispering in my ear
