You're kind of right, but some pickups are geared more towards tight distortion vs a harmonically rich clean sound. If someone doesn't play with heavy distortion there's no reason to recommend a guitar with compressed sounding pickups.
Landon Green
Last for now.
Matthew Davis
absolute mong
Zachary Cox
guitars = done
Angel Kelly
He's right though. You're going to throw a shit ton of solid state distortion and effects on it anyway so it doesn't matter how twangy your tele is it will end up sounding like everything else eventually.
Joseph Sanders
Gonna need better digits than that, friendo. Checkem
Hudson Barnes
I like clapton i've been listening to him a lot, and jimi, springsteen too. I think blues is pretty neat as far as the music goes, lyrics can get generic of course. Really the more melodic and lyrical playing i've been hearing from clapton and jimi are what got me into switching, i'm guessing that's just how good they are.
I've heard telecasters are good, or anything fender.
Lincoln Ross
A butterscotch telecaster.
Grayson Wright
Get an American Strat!
Xavier Roberts
I tweaked some stuff in the EQ since the last time I posted it.
luthiery is extremely complex craftsmanship. it's not just about your pickups, every single element of guitars are purposely designed right down to specific degree angling all over the body
Installs EMG's in a telecaster and expects every guitar to sound the same...
Evan Jones
Any guitars post 1960s
Jordan Russell
What are you implying sir
Benjamin Edwards
classical, steel string or electric if i want to start learning guitar?
Ryan Sullivan
>the waifuplank
Robert Martin
negroes are bad at lutherie?
John Hernandez
What do you listen to? You'll enjoy it more if you play what you listen to. If you want to be the greatest technical guitarist, classical for sure. But if you don't listen to that or have any frame of reference there, you're better off learning what you listen to.
IMO.

Oliver Perry
shoegaze and dreampop mostly,I watched the justinguitar video on what guitar to buy and he recommends electric but im not that convinced
I really like mazzy star if it helps
Gabriel Butler
Does this sound too similar to what I think it sounds like?
Props to the guy yesterday for starting up discussion of this great model out of Namm this year. I had forgotten about it.
Epiphoners check in. What do you have? What do you want?
Best Value: >Les Paul Tribute Plus You cannot get a better value guitar with this level of finishing and hardware for any less. USA Gibson '57 pups, locking Grover tuners, quality 150 Mallory capacitors and it also includes a genuine Epiphone Case. Marvelous value.
Other recommendations: >Dot Studio/335 >Blueshawk Deluxe >Casino Archtop >LP Standard Plus Top Pro >LP Custom Pro >LP Black Beauty >Bjorn Gelotte LP Custom >1984 Explorer EX All awesome guitars with excellent quality finishes and hardware.
The President's Pick: >1955 LP Custom (pic related) What an awesome machine. Will be picking one up myself when they arrive here in Aus.
Hes one of the most legendary lead guitarists in japan, but he does have an obsession with tremolos

Much better without the ear rape.
9/10 would groove again.

Just got a decent bedroom amp for myself Friday, Blackstar ID15(thanks IRS). Feels good to be unchained from the acoustic, jamming and making some decent tones compared to my shit box starter amp. Already learned several songs and have been fucking with it for hours. Got some new life breathed into my playing. Feelsgoodman.

Lucas Gomez
>tfw too intimidated to start playing on an electric because its so hard to get the correct tones and all the jargon is so complex
Brayden Walker
Just get a guitar and amp and play with too much distortion like everyone else does when they start out.
You learn more and more as you progress
Wyatt Campbell
First for practice amps sounding better than your main rig.
Chase Ross
But if they sound better why not just make them your main rig?
Nathaniel Jackson
alder/rose wood and maple bass, what to choose?
Sebastian Miller
I don't know what Genre you are interested in but there has never been better beginner guitars out there. Back in the day, there was such a thing as shit low-end guitars, and I mean true garbage. Now, we are incredibly lucky to be able to have such high quality instruments across the board.
It really does depend on the genre you are interested in, but don't feel like lower quality instruments mean a compromise, they are still great and as a beginner you aren't going to really apprentice the difference between, say, a real LP Custom and a cheap chinese copy anyway.
Basically I'd say buy what you like, because at the end of the day it's your instrument and you need to get something that makes you want to pick it up and play. Thats just as important as playability and instrument quality.
Check out my recommendations here if you are interested in Epiphone. Squier is also great if you're into strats, Ibanez and ESP make great affordable super strats and everything else in between and Gretsch make a really affordable Electromatic series that are perfect for Beatles and Atkins fans alike.

>What do you want? I want someone to buy mine at a high price but that's not happening. So I hope I'll at least get the cost of a good pedal board PSU out of it.
Hunter Powell
My best wishes to the user who dropped off the Power Solos booklet last thread.
Jason Cruz
that's your opinion only dude
Isaiah James
>most original japanese visual rock band of all time which inspired dozens of other bands and still has a unique sound to this day >>"disgusting pop music"
You can have your own opinion, but it's a shit one.
Austin Parker

Oliver Butler
>"""visual""" music >if we dress up like Final Fantasy characters while playing all these shitty standard chord progressions we'll be unique! >inspired literally droves of shitty watered-down pop rock male-idol music
I'm a beginner, been playing for a few months, I know the basic chords and some 7 chords really basic music theory, but what should I learn next? Chord progressions, scales, or what?
Luis Smith
not him but Japanese music is so awful maybe you're Japanese and you don't know how it comes across in other countries it all seem so inauthentic and fake like our American Idol style pop music is there are so few exceptions like Boris or Melt-Banana
Brody Sanchez
>Vox changed hands and is now owned by Korg... >Vox was shitting bed and Korg is hands down better >Korg specializing in synths handles Voxs transition into solid-state and modelling ez pz >Korg releases modelling and looping pedals along with vintage throwbacks of each amp and pdf's of all patches and modeled effects/pedals >little brutes rumble the air and vibrate your soul >who is vox and why do we need their name again? oh yeah vintage swagger and brian may
Hunter Barnes
>there are so few exceptions like Boris or Melt-Banana
Japan has an amazing underground scene and Boris got to be pretty popular there a few years ago
Isaiah Wilson
Yeah I know "asian" music means dick in america. And I am third generation Japanese american, but Luna Sea produced some really great dark progressive alternative rock in the 90's. It may sound gay to you initially but its some really good stuff.
scales, chromatic , major, minor, blues and pentatonic then you move on to modes and diatonic and symmetrical scales. i.e. whole tone and half/half-whole scales...
Isaac Baker
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
William Taylor
Scales! Major, harmonic minor, melodic minor.
Nathan Roberts
>muh secret underground scene kek yeah tell all about this "amazing underground scene" no one knows about in the information age
Uncle gave me one of his Pasaye bass. I don't know how to play shit. Worth learning? I think it's supposed to be expensive but looks really Mexican.
Easton Gutierrez
Huh where are you from, user?
They're made here in my city, or used to be since Mr. Pasaye died.
Samuel Clark
Los Angeles. Uncle is from San Diego.
Henry Lee
They're handmade and more often than not one-of-a-kind, you could sell it for big bucks I guess but could learn how to play. They used to be made down here in Tijuana.
Post a pic!

Don't think I'll sell it even if I don't learn to play. Uncle is a cool dude and old as fuck already. It'll be nice just to have.
Nathaniel Watson
lmao yep a mexican made that for sure
Cameron Ross
I've startd playing like 20 years ago but I suck. I also stopped playing in between for years at a time. I own one of pic related.
Any opinions on Mitchell? Been looking at some of their guitars.
Brandon Bailey
You walk into a guitar store that stocks every single model of every single guitar and bass of every single year ever made.
A clerk hands you a ticket which entitles you to one guitar you can walk out of the store with.
What do you choose?
Ethan Davis
Not a fucking Epiphone that's for sure.
Ryder Johnson
No idea to be honest, maybe some strange vintage 12 string. Perhaps the most rational would be to pick the most expensive and then sell it to fund whatever other stuff you want.
Asher Gray
I'd get the most expensive guitar in there and sell it. Then buy a couple decent quality guitars with that money, while keeping the rest for myself.
