Sure. If it sounds fun to you, do it. Godspeed, op. And nice trips.

Get it, nice trips?

I worked on a cruise ship as a bartender for 3 years. Fucking awesome. I got so much tang it was insane.

If you have the tools to break locks, can tell which containers contain food and the ones that contain supplies, and don't get caught, then yes.

How was the dough, though?

I've always had a fascination with cargo ships, long haul trucking, living in Antarctica, and the likes. Guess I don't care much for regular lifestyles.

Depends, what is the salary, how is the satellite internet, and what are the work hours like?

You could for a short period of time. Be prepared to bring your own fucking supplies though.

from what I've heard it's not that simple

me too bro, something about it just feels right

yeah, I may have dumbed it down extremely. Its not that easy but I assume those would be the basics.

That's a lot of imitation crab meat going to waste.

I know bro. I just wanna make an honest living and travel the world.

Sure. Also checked lad

...

There is a lot of water in the ocean.

No need to be so drastic. Just become a long distance trucker.

thanks black science man

I get it XDDDD

...

Joke of the century

How wet do you think the ocean is?

It has a fuckload of salt in it, so I would say not very wet.

...

No shit. There is also a lot of land on the land

That's a Maersk ship. You can tell because of the way it is.

go to syria and fight for socialism against right wing reactionaries if you wanna get away so bad

That vessel is aground. You can tell because of the way it is.

sailor here
if you are prepared to fix some certificates, it's nice as fuck
a good way to get away from ordinary life and focus on other things (it all depend on the rest of the crew of course)

What do you do? do you have plenty of free time? does it get better over time or worse?

What is the signal for Man Overboard?
What mast lights indicate a vessel restricted in ability to maneuver?

I work in the industry. Long hauls, sometimes you get off ship in different ports. Other times you sit outside a port for weeks waiting to get in to offload and then your there long enough to reload and take on groceries. Usually work 12hrs a day on and 12 off. Mainly deck crew are foreign from third world nations who work for pennies. Masters and mates are from the country which th ship is registered. If you live near a coastal town and can get to a seafarers union, they can get you pointed in the right direction. Be ready to be gone for months at a time and then home for the same period of time.

You could likely work/live on one. Simply living on one though would be incredibly expensive.

For reference: I know two people who decided to take a container ship (for fun) one-way from Canada, to South Korea. It was a 6 week journey that cost 10K for the pair.

They had a great time though!

10k? fuck might as well book a cruise

I guess it makes a bit of sense. A cruise is just a business to cater to passengers, and travel along difference routes than trade ships.

I guess on the cargo ships they take some crazy routes (like a trucker might) in order to save money, and time.

Also, it's a bit of a novelty to travel via trade routes, so perhaps shipping companies purposely charge a lot for the service.

I've heard you can book flights with cargo planes as well, but they are a lot more expensive than a normal commercial flight.

You guys may not think this thread is funny but I swear to God I laughed harder at this thread than I have at any thread I have seen since I got here in 2010. My abs hurt

Really! I always wondered how you could tell.

kek

A great time doing what? What's there to do on a ship full of containers?

If it was my cargo ship, and I could simply cruise the oceans, heck ya.

Hanging with the crew, seeing areas of the world that only trade ships go to apparently.

I don't know a lot of detail. I'd have to ask them for specifics.

They were treated like family among the crew, and were able to have a brief glimpse into what the life of a merchant sailor is like.

Sounds interesting to me to say the least.

There is nothing better in this world than experience!

You could play "touch the container"
