Beginning Radioactive collector here, I have a few sample of wulfenite, but I just bought this sample of carnotite, that gives off 200,000 cpm of radiation, what is the safe distance to store this from myself? my room isnt very big

Also I know that it mostly gives off beta radiation so would a paint can contain the rays decent enough?

you seem to know alot more of this subject than any basic Sup Forumstard, so why exactly would you even ask here?

also, I know enough about radioactivity that I would not want to store them in the same building where I live

gimme dat goldflakes

>putting radioactive shit in your house
This idea only has good outcomes, surely.

Tape it to your balls so you don't have to pay for a vasectomy

I store all my chemicals in the garage. I have an old 70's chemistry set and some beakers and shit so im not dead yet.

Just make sure it's aluminum can.

Why not underground in a something that wont break down. then only you know where it is and someone who doesn't need it wont get hurt from it.

Is this really a hobby?

Lead will help

If I roll dubs op eats his radioactive shit.

TIMESTAMP CARNOTITE ON WIENER OR GTFO

this is incredibly stupid, especially if you have no use for it and are just collecting.

use lead bars/lead balls etc in an box

Any sort of high density metal should be enough
Preferably you'd want to put it in lead/(tungsten alloy)/(high density steel) container

If you don't have a gheiger counter (which you should obviously get as soon as possible) to check if the can of paint is enough just add a thing layer of concrete on/in the can to stop any further leak of radiation

DO THIS OP

The timestamp thing, not the poop thing

Germanfag here

Here is my translation:

Due to the high toxicity and the high radioactivity samples of carnotite should be stored only in dust and radiation tight vessels, and should never be stored in living, sleeping or working rooms. The incorporation must be strictly avoided and for safety reasons always protecting gloves and a surgical mask must be worn.

Wish you a lot of fun with your poisonous purchase...

The emision of radiation is so low it's neglectible
It's far dumber of general populus to think any amount of radiation is fucking harmful

Guess what negro, every time you go outside, every time you take a phone in hands and every time you eat a bloody chips you get "exposed to harmful radiation"

>Beginning Radioactive
>what is the safe distance to store this from myself? my room isnt very big

this starts good... most probably your new hobby will give you cancer quicker than Sup Forums

Beta seems appropriate for you

use a lead container. sufficient nuclear density to block rays. As far as possible.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to conduct an experiment once. But I couldn't find my materials, any way of finding U-235? I can divide it from U-238, but it's too much work.

Also to answer Question, 200.000 cpm is twice the strength of a Gamma Ray. Meaning you need a distance of at least two thick lead plates.

seriously, if you are stupid enough to start buying radioactive materials as a hobby, and not know how to safely store them and not own even a fucking geiger counter you deserve to get cancer OP

Snort it

Why don't you collect something safer, like Ebola virus or child porn?

Great way to earn the attention of Homeland Security.

well I'll roll for this. become a superhero op

He'll only loose all his hair and become
>super baldo

The thread is dying again
Where is op

OP is kill

I keep my radioactive material in or around my anal region to help keep my butthole warm and to kill the worms.

The radiatio must've gotten him
>he is now one with the fallout

Keep it in your underwear, jeans over the top will block any radiation from escaping.

Uranium undergoes alpha decay not beta with a lesser amount of spontaneous fission. The glass vial itself will stop most of it. Just don't sleep with it under your pillow.

>OP didn't even mention uranium

This

Stand next to a reactor and tell me it's the same as eating a banana go ahead I'll wait this'll be good

All radiation is not the same. Cell phones, EMF radiation is non ionizing. Uranium, plutonium emit ionizing radiation. This is the shit you should be concerned with. Is the radiation alpha, beta or gamma? All this matters in regards to the level of danger it presents.

...

Have you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?

it's a tough pill to swallow! The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill

Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.

Swallow the brown pill today! Red pills are for fedora fucking wearing faggots, blue pills are for the ignorant masses. Ignore the other le epin Sup Forums maymays, this one is the readl deal.

>carnotite
Is actually the raw ore that uranium is extracted from in the US.

Typical response but you couldn't even add any wit? Are you that slow?

You couldn't say something along the lines of
>It's you that gives off the beta radiation

No thought put into it at all just Hurr beta, yeah that's you.

>carnonite=raw ore of uranium
>raw ore of uranium=/=pure uranium
Not the same pal, not the same

Smoke it man.

>reactors have lead and concrete isolation
>there is no lead in banana to keep you safe from isotope C14

as long as you're not breathing the dust, you're ok keeping it in a metal tin.

5 grams is still only putting out a negligible amount of flux, almost all of it alpha particle (which stops at the glass 99.9%)

Remember kids, low level radiation requires long periods of exposure in very close proximity to do damage, which is why we check for radon gas in homes, and generally only test people who work with isotopes on a daily basis.

>implying there isn't radioactive material everywhere.

Not even illegal retard. You can literally buy it online or go out and find some in the wilderness.

>implying eating a banana is more harmful than standing next to even a shielded reactor
Lolwut??????????

>says you can find radiation in nature
Kek fucking autist radiation is made retard. That's like finding a wild prius living peacefully with its herd before it's captured

I thought it was pretty funny.

>standing next to a shielded nuclear generator for a year=100times less radiation than eating a banana each day for a year

>what is isotope C14

Generally:
Alpha particles - paper, wood, skin will stop them.
Beta - foils simple metal containers.
Gamma - lead, or other high density metals
Gamma (strong/hot source) -can't, use distance.

Neutron (low energy) - water, high density poly - ethylene blocks, paraffin wax blocks, stuff with a high density of hydrogen atoms, even funds of saturated fats like lard would workor even the average Sup Forumstard.
Neutron (fast) - can't stop, use distance.

So that's for the radiation, but most of the ores and minerals of heavy metals that are radioactive are dangerous because they're heavy metals in the same way cadmium is dangerous. They hey into your bones displacing calcium. But above and beyond that, once a radioactive metal is in your body, it can't excrete it, and then you've got a radioactive source in your body, and now what was a benign alpha source is trearing up your system, beta and gamma inside are even worse.

So, I mentioned distance, when you double the linear distance from a source, the radioactive falls off by 4x. Triple distance equals one ninth the rads. 1/linear distance squared = radioactive exposure. Distance is the best safety.

also note that higher energy sources have different needs, low energy alphas are less dangerous than high energy. Gamma rays can vary the most and are exactly the same as xrays, and are the most dangerous, along with low energy Neutrons. High energy neurons will go right thru, while low energy ones will strike hydrogen atoms inside the body and turn into alpha rays inside the body which is dangerous.
Tldr an airtight metal box will be fine, for what you have, but be hey careful handling it and don't consume any of it, even a sleek of dust.

Fucking auto correct, you get what I mean tho I hope

You don't know much do you?
