Hey dudes

Hey dudes

I'm starting to get into Indian music, and I've listened to a few of Ravi Shankar's albums and really like what I hear.

What is the best Indian music album? I'm looking for something with quite a bit of sitar and quite peaceful too.

pic related is my fave so far

most indian music is very bad

I'm pretty sure Ravi was the only dude making sitar music like that.

That's because most music is bad.

Toilet Witches by Pajeet and the Designated Streets is the GOAT Indian album.

He's from New Zealand, not India, but it's very peaceful music with quite a lot of Sitar.
His first two Albums in particular are fantastic if you like this kind of music.

This reminds me I need to string my sitar

how many indian records have you heard?

Ghazal - The Rain
Whatever it is you can find from Vilayat Khan

Non-sitar but still good:
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Shahen-Shah
Ali Akbar Khan - Morning & Evening Ragas
Zakir Hussain & Shivkumar Sharma - Rag Madhuvanti and Rag Misra Tilang

Thanks man :)

I really love raga jazz and raga rock
any hindustani classical stuff that is reminiscent to what it influenced in later years? already like carnatic music

Try this out OP

Thanks for these :)

I'll give it a listen too!

Sweet.

I also recommend the indian section of Concert for George if you haven't already.
The sitar player is Anoushka Shankar, Ravi's daughter.

even though it's RYM avant-teen-core......

Dwaram Venkatswamy Naidu - Memorable Violin Solos

it's very different from Shankar but very fun and rhythmic

Ravi Shankar was a poor man's Ustad Vilayat Khan

There are two main types of Indian classical music: Hindustani and Carnatic. Ravi played Hindustani, so you should look for more sitar players who have been trained in the Hindustani tradition.
