born and raised Catholic, it will always hold a place in my heart, but I've been more interested in Eastern faiths for a long time now, first Hinduism and now I've increased my practice of Buddhism since I see it as a bit more open than Hinduism is for new converts not raised in Indian society.

I have a lot of books on all of these but my first hand experience is limited for obvious reasons.

>non-believers
I just can't understand this. Even if you refuse to accept the most probable conclusion of the teleological argument, the cosmological argument is almost impossible to sidestep. Theism is the only rational position.

not good really,
my dog is sick, I'm waiting for the vet to open so I can take him there.

how about you?

are most Vietnamese sincere atheists or do they follow "indigenous faiths" similar to the Japanese with Shinto-Buddhist-Confucian-Dao mixtures?

Yeah? And which God did you chose, bud?
Probably an Indian one, since they are the most detailed, consistent and descriptive, right?!

I wouldn't really consider most Asian "religions" as religions in the Western sense anyway since the operate so differently and don;t have the same strict legalistic attitude towards right thought and right action.

Flip between being jewish and agnostic.

When I go to church for big celebrations, with everyone happy, singing, huddled together, I sometimes feels something in my guts. Not sure how to describe it. It almost kinda hurts or is uncomfortable, but at the same time it makes feel at ease, happy.

Does anyone else get that? Maybe it's just the solemnity of the celebration getting to me, but still.

3. I don't really have a label for it, but I suppose you could call it 'cautious Hinduism'. My own personal experience has, for the time being, convinced me that there is more to the world than what can be observed in our physical, three-dimensional world. Hinduism is a useful language through which to interpret it, for me.

In a way, it's a lot like Reza Aslan's interpretation of Islam, his own religion:
>In a 2013 interview with WNYC host Brian Lehrer, Aslan said: "... I'm definitely a Muslim and Sufism is the tradition within Islam that I most closely adhere to." He also proclaims himself a 'genuinely committed disciple of Jesus of Nazareth.' In a 2013 article in the Washington Post, Aslan states: "It’s not [that] I think Islam is correct and Christianity is incorrect. It's that all religions are nothing more than a language made up of symbols and metaphors to help an individual explain faith." In 2014, in an interview with Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks, Aslan described Islam as "a man-made institution. It’s a set of symbols and metaphors that provides a language for which to express what is inexpressible, and that is faith. It’s symbols and metaphors that I prefer, but it’s not more right or more wrong than any other symbols and metaphors. It’s a language, that’s all it is."
