Not an argument.
Animals [Columbia, 1977]
This has its share of obvious moments. But I can only assume that those who accuse this band of repetitious cynicism are stuck in such a cynical rut themselves that a piece of well-constructed political program music--how did we used to say it?--puts them uptight. Lyrical, ugly, and rousing, all in the right places. B+

Sup Forums, everyone.
its as if music is made almost exclusively by leftists...
music is degenerate
not all music, just good music
All art is almost exclusively made by progressive-minded people (relative to their time).
It's funny because Animal Farm was originally a criticism of communism, not capitalism
As relevent then as it is now.
>Ha Ha Charade You Are

Musicians and actors should simply be regarded as dancing puppets there to amuse you and not to take anything they have to say about politics or society seriously.
It's almost as if anything worthwhile is made exclusively by leftists
I'd swap Pigs and Sheep for the sake of that guitar at the end of the latter, but respect your opinion
Burzum, Wagner, the list goes on...
no. it was a criticism of the soviet union in particular. orwell was a socialist you dingus
Wagner was a pro-revolution leftist in his youth, in his later years he turned into a bitter racist reactionary and extreme nationalist.
Isn't Roger the dude that reissues their entire catalog every year or so with insanely priced deluxe editions? How can he complain about capitalism so much when he's been milking the Pink Floyd cow for decades?
The same reason Patrick Stewart whined about there being too many rich people in the world as he pockets residual checks from Star Trek and stuffs them in his Cayman Islands bank account.
The criticism of the book isn't against communist economics or collective ownership, its against the oppression and exploitation of the Soviet Union; Orwell fought in the spanish civil war alongside the anarchists against fascism and wrote a whole book about how the conditions of the spanish republic were a model for the kind of society he imagined. He literally said something like "every word I've ever written was for democratic socialism".
Though I don't think that Animals is a very convincing criticism of capitalism. Its message seems to be that it just wants to withdraw from political questions completely and go live in the country or something. Especially in Dogs it seems like much more a crticism of english social culture and repression.
Very progressive
Animals was mostly whining about how Britain in the 70s was going downhill.
He just did a rough musical adaptation Animal Farm. Roger is obviously not anti-capitalism because of one album he released 40 years ago with a band he broke up with 30 years ago. You'd have to be a complete retard to reach that conclusion.
All the same, Roger and Dave are both admitted far left commies. Difference being Dave doesn't harangue the audience at his concerts with stuff he saw in the Guardian.
its got nothing to do with the guardian, which is hardly a leftist paper anyway, Waters has been doing anti-war stuff for years because his dad died in the war, he's not doing palestine solidarity stuff at his concerts as some fad
