If they were to make a show about the kind of person he's supposed to be and make it actually true to life it would be too depressing for general audiences.
The shots of previous scenes with his dad removed, so you can see how the world really sees him, are plenty depressing. The unrealistic leaps are for drama, not to protect the audience from feeling feelings.
