how can I make my sound more sparkly and less muddy?

clyp.it/xpwsfh4p

it's supposed to sound kinda noisy but i'd love to get more "contrast" in the mix, especially the drums. tried EQing and compressing, still not getting the result i want

No chance getting any help here unless you want to make trap lo-fi beats

What the shit is that picture? Please don't tell me it's a booger

No it's weed

Man i've had to be creative at times when the zigs ran out, but that's some next level shit! HAHAHA

Best pic of the day user!

I've posted this in prod threads before but just got around to adding lyrics, needs a little more work and trimming down the length, but what do y'all think of it so far.

I love this too much man.

Thanks man! Still a few little things to tweak I think, but it's nit-picky at this point.

Can't wait to record new material soon.

is that pickle boy?

great thread you guys

Did you actually engineer and mix that? This is like porn for audiophiles

what kind of cat is this?

Yes, and played everything but the drums and vocals lol

That's awesome. I'm just a hobbyist, but if I could get bass guitar to sound half that good, I'd be happy. Mine always ends up sounding like ass. Are there any resources you'd recommend (for production in general)?

I really want to go pro, maybe not as a recording engineer I kinda got my dreams crushed yesterday for that, but definitely as a musician and save money by producing it myself.

For bass 75% of it is the playing, hands down. I'm using a standard mexican P-bass with prolly 3 year old strings, playing with fingers. You have to make it sound full with your fingers and then play the part well.

Then the magic comes in with a saturation plugin I use called FerricTDS, theres this amazing preset on it for bass that gives it such balls. That and then make it sit with kick drum real nice with EQ. Great tutorials on YT for this. Good luck my dude, don't let anyone bring you down.

the fact you did that song in reaper and with free vsts is really amazing dude.

I forgot to mention get a Sansamp Bass DI, best purchase ever for studio bass parts.

Well thanks man, trust me the pros don't want a kid that runs Reaper, even tho imo it's WAY more powerful than ProTools.

Reaper kicks fucking ass dude, like it's an amazing DAW and can run virtually any hardware/software.

HOLY FUCK THE ULTIMATE BOGPILL ON Sup Forums...... somehow that seems right?!?

hahahahahahahaahaaha omf this thread...

>maybe not as a recording engineer I kinda got my dreams crushed yesterday for that

What happened? The only thing that would mean a permanent barrier to entry (and I apologize for bringing it up if it turns out to be this) is some sort of deafness.

Just more of a realization that I'm way behind the curve for being a pro at it. More of an advanced hobbyist

Not this guy Do your best and have fun. Remember to have fun. I chased dreams for years and never really "succeeded", but I had fun.
I regret nothing.
Bogbump! this is almost the creepiest thing I've ever seen on Sup Forums ever!

The "pimp your girlfu" to make blackmail dough in the political future under the guise of a coming of age story.

is this boring?

Hahahaha Doggo wan the fishe

It's apt that you mention being behind the curve - if you think about what this kind of graph/curve would look like (ability on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal) you'll see that time is the only factor you can't influence, yet I'm willing to guess that it is the thing you believe is to blame. Time running out and still not where you want to be? Seeing others managing it in less time?

Unless you're an old fart like me (and I am fucking ancient) you have more time than you think, but you might be in a hurry and that messes with your perspective.

Do what says and keep enjoying what you do - opportunities appear at the weirdest times so don't fret just because your plan isn't sticking to the, er... plan, I didn't get my first studio place until I was in my late 20s and it was a complete fluke that I wasn't even looking for by that point.

So far so good, post again after the first change. If you fucking feel like it of course.

It's not bad but I feel like it's pretty aimless.
