A Clockwork Orange was the movie that changed my hipster tastes in only watching only brand new movies. I can also cite Taxi Driver as another major old movie after ACO that later got me into just about ever genre and subgenre of film except musicals and romantic movies, those will always suck ass to me, not all but most of them. Older movies and foreign films will teach you that American movies are indeed not the best it can get. I'd say French cinema is the most superior, because that's where cinema originated, also Japanese (especially pink films, guro films), Russian films are also pretty good, and South Korean (very genre-bending).
