Yeah. It's pretty uneven, but there's some good stuff on it. Probably their most inconsistent post Revolver album. If they had cut out all the bullshit and weak tracks, shortened it from a double to a single album, it would have been their their greatest work. Instead, we got the bloated mess that inspired Charlie Manson and his family to murder movie stars.

Paul needed John more than John needed Paul at this point. He did do some good solo work, but Lennon's Beatle stuff is mostly better than Paul's Beatle stuff.

What's not to get? I suppose you have to understand the state of the Beatles.

They also had just come back from India where most of these and many other unreleased songs were penned, but came back in 2s, with George and John staying there the longest. So the rift between the lads was already starting.

They were beginning to be tired of eachother's company, and more importantly, tired of being Beatles. The White Album is really the beginning of the end. Very few songs from the White Album, and for much afterword were recorded with all 4 Beatles. Sometimes it was 2, sometimes 3, someones totally solo.

And so the White Album is unique in their discography because its the one where other members had no veto power if they didn't like it a song. All the Beatles had to OK something before. But now, fuck you George, this is my song and I don't like you right now. To hell with Paul and his granny music, I only need my Yoko to write. That sort of thing. So it's weird as a result. But their most creative and the one I always come back to the most.

Yes. I own both versions Some of the songs on the stereo version are better (Don't Pass Me By at correct speed While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a better quality recording in stereo and Helter Skelter is complete) There are songs on the mono version I thought were more interesting. (Louder airplane sounds on Back in The U.S.S.R. faster segue into Dear Prudence and the difference in the recordings of the animal sounds on Piggies and Blackbird to name just a few differences between the two versions)

It's true. Paul's songs on the White Album are dreck.

Got those box sets back in 2009 when they first came out. Yours is the best advice so far.

Paul had surpassed John as a songwriter by 66. It's immaterial anyway, by 68 George was better than both.

Paul was best Beatle from Help! onwards through the rest of their careers. The proof is recorded with Ram and Band on the Run which are both better than any Beatles album.

The only solo album that can make that case for is All Things Must Pass. That would be a top3 Beatles album imo.

While that may be debatable and I disagree, the fact remains that John's White album material was far superior. Sgt Pepper's was more evenly matched.

Most of the songs are excellent I have no idea what album you were listening to.

My friend once let me borrow the Beatles Blue box set, and forgot I had it for over a year, and stupidly I decided to tell her I had it.

It was nice having all the albums on vinyl

No that is not the best master. As I said, the 2009s are a better capture of the masters. Supposedly the *very* best is the 2014 mono vinyl boxset, which are uncompressed direct transfers of the mastertapes.

Every Night, Junk, and Teddy boy are highlights for me, other stuff is forgettable
