GTA IV was my favorite. First fully realised city in the series and I really liked the protagonist (Niko Bellic). The main theme for IV is also really well done. You can feel the menacing undertones.

the gang thing is from the previous 2d game where you'd gain or lose respect with diff gangs and kinda makes sense... it isn't like they do much damage to you when you go into an area where they're trying to kill you
