Ron Paul Sup Forums

Ron Paul Sup Forums,
so I just got hold of a gold plated 925 sterling silver ring with a stone on top which looks like a brilliant. How do I make sure if the stone is real of fake? The juweler is currently closed.
I'm going to post 3 pictures of it ITT.
Oh, and the stone is exactly 0,65mm in diameter, which would be 1ct.

Second picture.

Sadly this is very unsharp.

You don't without professional equipment.

These days you can't even try scratching glass as moissanite will also scratch glass.

>plated
Probably fake.
And yeah, fake. That's glass.

I've read that grinding the stone on sand paper would work? Or to be more exact it wouldn't work, if it's a real one.

If it's plated, it's most likely fake

Was thiking that too, but it's still gold plated silver.

Breath hot air on it. Diamonds dont fog over with hot breathe. Fake stones do

It does fog up, but the fog dissipates within 1 - 2 seconds. I'm going to head the stone up and drop it in cold water to see if it shatters. Also it doesn't float, it's sinking quickly.

The stone looks beat up. I dont think its real user. Real diamonds are incredibly tough to scuff up or damage. 2nd hardest substance on the planet

Technically you can smack it with a hammer and the diamond shouldnt be effected if its real. Try it

nobody sane would put a 1ct diamond in 925 silver.

If it disappeared in less then two seconda its real. Try the underside. Sometimes they put diamond on the top but the underside is fake

It's fake, but to be totally sure take a high power light/flashlight and shine it through the stone. If the pattern looks the same as in this pic it's fake.

it probably wont shatter even if its glas. Stuff usually breaks when the temperature difference is applied unevenly and the material shrinks in one spot while it stays expanded someplace else. It tears appart. Dropping a small but nearly spherical piece of glas in cold water will most likely not do the trick.

Diamond isnt even hard

Shattered from the inside. I was hoping it could be real, but fuck.

I'm not a fucking idiot m8, obviously even a real dimond would break into pieces.

Diamond is among the hardest, if not THE hardest metal known to man.

touch it to your tongue and if it stays cold it is real.

Diamonds are very poor conductors of heat

Drop it in a clean glass with purified water. The more transparent the stone, the higher the brilliance and clarity. Hope this helps.

They're hard but that doesn't mean they aren't brittle

> metal

>diamond is a metal

newfag? newfag

They wouldnt put a huge diamond is some cheap silver. That never happens, they only do that for white gold, platinum. That diamond also sparkling to much to be real.

Shit is as fake as your mothers tits.

The toughness of diamond is about 2.0 MPa which is good compared to other gemstones, but poor compared to most engineering materials. So if I take a hammer and hit a hammer hard, yeah that's gonna break. Diamond is hard, I agree but it's not unbreakable. You're probably misled by the usual form factor of diamonds

>How do I make sure if the stone is real of fake?
By getting off this shithole and going to /biz/
There are a couple guys there who work with precious gems and metals who can tell you what you have
And iirc there's even a guy on Sup Forums who is a specialist in die cutting so if /biz/ doesn't get you what you need Sup Forums can
Never ask Sup Forums for anything serious, it's mostly just children here and retail workers easily the smallest variation of job specialists of all the boards

gold plated, silver
Sorry to say thats probably cubic zarconia. diamonds like that dont get put on shit metals like silver
>white gold or platinum

this guy beat me but he's right
