When did Pitchfork lose all credibility in your eyes?
For me, it was when they ranked Gold Soundz the best song of the 90s

sometime late 1995
MBDTF 10.0
I love Pavement to death but even I thought this was a shit decision
About 10 minutes after I discovered them
>they ranked Gold Soundz the best song of the 90s
What is this revisionist shit? Pitchfork already had ranked Ok Computer best album of 90's and ranked the best song as Karma Police didn't they?
When I found out that they rate reissued albums based on how good the pressing is. It should be two scores: one for the quality of the pressing, and one as a retrospective review. Fuck.
>Best song of 90's
>Not MMbop/Champagne Supernova/Bittersweet Symphony/Fake Plastic Trees/Only Shallow/1979
kex
what's your best song of the 90s user?
Sometimes by My Bloody Valentine
I was hoping to be able to call you out and say well yours isn't great too but... fair enough m8
if you think about it, Steal My Sunshine by LEN is a contender for sure
i like Gold Soundz a lot, its an interesting/unorthodox pick, who cares
I can stand pitchfork as little as the next guy, but does it really make us more comfortable if they pick some weak predictable bullshit? who cares, its a fucking best-of list for christ's sake
>When I found out that they rate reissued albums based on how good the pressing is. It should be two scores: one for the quality of the pressing, and one as a retrospective review.
They do the opposite far more often than not. Every other reissue gets a 10 from them even if the reissue has garbage "remastering". They'll even complain about it in the review and STILL give it a 10 because they ranked the original album 50 or higher on their "best of the decade" lists.
this is also a very acceptable answer
They never had any credibility to me because it was clear from the off that they were just a bunch of creative writing graduates trying really hard to say something insightful and failing miserably.
Yeah, I really don't understand their rationale. MHTRTC and Donuts originally got 8s, then when the reissues came out they gave them 10s. It kind of defeats the purpose of the "Best New Reissue" tag.
>different people can't have different opinions while writing for the same publication
You act like these things are important and set in stone.
this
god pavement were so shit
i'm glad p4k picked this it highlights their cluelessness
