I'm gonna pull a fish real quick, guys
Schoolly D - Schoolly D (1985)
>Hip Hop, Turntablism, Gangsta Rap
Very cool early hip hop and primitive gansta rap (acknowledged as much by Ice-T apparently) from Philadelphia. These songs are long and super sparse, very rough-sounding. The beats are killer though, and the DJing is very of his time (D.J. Code Money). The way there’s no other rappers for the entirety of each of these 6-7+ minute tracks can be somewhat off-putting though, giving this a bit of an outsider music vibe. Would highly recommend though, lots of killer beats and rhymes here, even if the meshing (or lack thereof) is probably an acquired taste.
It’s really hard to pick a favorite track here, but “P.S.K. ‘What Does It Mean’?” has a lot going for it, and “Gucci Time” has a the best refrain—that chorus just gets better every time.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion Gum (2007)
>Neo-psychedelia, Noise Pop
Weird but not that weird synth psychedelia with some weak breakbeats. The songs are usually cool-sounding but also usually aimless and lame. The sounds here are really neat, but the songs are so passive and uninteresting that I find it hard to enjoy them or even notice them consistently (that breakbeat backdrop is really just that—background). If I do enjoy a track it kind of feels like a mistake. The opener is legit great though, and the album does end on a high note: the triumphantly psycho/active “Drippy Eye” and “Caterpillar House”. Plus, I do like the vaguely plunderphonic aesthetic.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Cobra Juicy (2012)
>Neo-psychedelia, Noise Pop
The production and mixing are much improved—the whole thing is a lot punchier, and the production altogether markedly more interesting. However, it is a lot of more of the same. The vocals and lyrics are somehow even worse though—mostly because they’re more prominent.
More of the same, more like more of the lame, lmao
