I really love the way this album straddles the line between pop and punk. Like it's a pop album but they've got this really punky attitude and delivery. Also a nice balance between genuinely serious subject matter and goofy shit. One of my favs of all time. Could you guys post some more examples of this kinda thing?

Guitar Romantic by The Exploding Hearts is another favourite for a more modern example.

Honestly you really don't need any Replacements albums after Hootenanny!

Go to bed Buzz

What a silly thing to say.

There is no line between pop and punk. Punk falls under the umbrella of pop.

proof that Sup Forums is the worst subreddit

Oh really?

You mean to tell me that bands like Crass and Discharge are considered "pop"?

OP here, could y'all please stop arguing semantics and rec some albums thx

Bump

Explain...

Because pop and punk couldn't be more opposite of each other.

he thinks he's being clever by referring to song structure rather than the stylistic traits of the genre (he's not)

there's only three types of music: art, tradtional, and popular

but anyone with a brain would know "pop" is polysemic

>pop and punk couldn't be more opposite of each other

Not really. They can borrow from each other, and often do. The Ramones loved Phil Spector-esque pop from the 60s and basically played fast pop music. A lot of the first wave punk bands were also more pop punk in nature, not to mention the whole pop punk wave of the late 90s / early 00s.

Wire - Chairs Missing

what actually are the stylistic traits of pop then?

The Ramones (Obviously)
The Buzzcocks
The Undertones
The Descendents
Green Day
post Zen Arcade Husker Du
Pic related

Please tell me again how pop and punk aren't related.........

And let's not forget how many punks were fans of The Jam back in the early days........

ramones aren't pop
husker du aren't pop
the rest are pop punk (aka not punk)

the buzzcocks and other british "punk" bands were cheap imitators of american punk bands

>ramones aren't pop
uhhhh.....

muh rolling stone-approved punk

they're an early punk band full of pop melodies. holy shit Sup Forums. genres don't exist in a vacuum with no crossover
