Post-Hardcore?

Recently got into The Mars Volta by way of prog rock and saw plenty of places attributing the intensity of their sound to post-hardcore, so I checked into a bit of it and found bands like Circa Survive and Harvard, which are nice enough, but I want to find more.

Any recs for post-hardcore?

half of the mars volta were in At the Drive In before forming so check that out

Fugazi
Shellac
Unwound

Listen to pic related (Fugazi - The Argument). Mars Volta have some vague post hardcore influence but I wouldnt really call them representative of the genre as a whole.

Nomeansno - Wrong
Unwound - Fake Train

Hum - You'd prefer an astronaut

The band that the singer and guitaristof The Mars Volta had before, At the Drive-In, is very post hardcore, so try that, obviously

Checkin this first, definitely already got some of those splashy guitars and grooves I'm looking for.

Thanks m80s

Seconding these
Wouldn't call them post-hardcore really more grunge-gaze but still excellent.
Adding Drive Like Jehu to the list of recs.
If you're looking for the cleaner production kind of stuff (Circa Survive suggests that much) I'd add Dance Gavin Dance and The Sound of Animals Fighting.

Word, I'm looking for any expansion of the sound I can find, clean or not. I've heard of DGD, and also seen them mentioned in prog circles. Appreciate it

If you're into Omar's dissonant guitar melodies definitely check out Crimes and Young Machetes, the last two Blood Brothers albums. The vocals are pretty abrasive but they're fucking brilliant.

Essential Post Hardcore is

Slint
Refused
Big Black
Drive Like Jehu
Fugazi

If you like TMV check out Gospel - The Moon Is a Dead World

Half of those are garbage

these are important, except big black, steve albini is a garbage

Hell, I'm open to garbage every once in a while too

All recs are appreciated and sifted through to my taste

art i made for a Mars Volta poster. Its a shame their only good album is De-loused.

If you want "proggy" post-hardcore I recommend at lot of stuff that's already been mentioned in this thread. And also

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Source Tags & Codes
Meet Me in St. Louis - Variations on Swing
Biffy Clyro - The Vertigo of Bliss
mewithoutYou - Pale Horses
Reuben - In Nothing We Trust
The Fall of Troy - Doppleganger
Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute
BATS - The Sleep of Reason

Not the same as the original PH like fugazi but definitely more 'hardcore'

>Saetia
>circle takes the square
>dangers (sort of)

complete shit and also shit opinion

agreed

>their only good album is De-loused
do you even Frances

Going with a less obvious recommendation: Lisabö. Pic related is what you get if you took The Seer's era Swans and added a post-hardcore flavor to it:
