No, now shut up.

He's become a Joker-tier edgy teen meme at this point. The only way you could do a K'toolho movie at this point is to throw him in with the others in a quip filled action movie where they save the world.

Sure, if you want to die horribly.

Am I the only one that wants cthulu to cumthulu in my boithulu?

It's been done already. black and white, silent with title cards, awesome soundtrack, faithful script, charming miniatures. It's perfect. Watch it and know that a major studio will never top this fucking indie film made on $50,000.

That movie wasn't very good ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

yes, if you give it to del toro and tell him "no limits"

Sure it is.

Needs a director that understands the material though

>dozens, possibly hundreds of other stories better suited for adaptation
>we want cuntooloo xD rawr
fucking living breathing memes

is it possible to go one day without a lovecraft thread?

for fuck's sake pls give it a rest

Where's my Mr. Niggerman movie? Also what's the best Lovecraft story? For me its The Whisperer in the Darkness.

This. It's an excellent film that was done by the HP Lovecraft Society.

Give it a watch, don't be a faggot.

Yeah, when someone says they love Lovecraft, you can measure how pleb they are by how many more words come out of their mouth before they mention Cthulhu.

For noobs, here's 20 hours of 90% good content

It's hard to make a good movie off of shitty source material

I like color out of space a lot.

I mean, the Cthulhu Mythos is what really put Lovecraft on the map. Before that he probably had 20 readers from his Weird Tales publications. I don't immediately judge people who instantly bring up tCoC when they talk about Lovecraft, but usually it ends up being literally the only thing about his work that they know. Then I judge them.

no, fuck off with that memehulhu shit

real lovecraftkino coming through

>producer needs to understand the material
>writer needs to understand the material
>director needs to understand the material
You're never going to get all three of those on board for cosmic horror. Even if they did.
>the audience needs to understand the material
Cosmic horror would best be used a candy shell coating for a main audiovisual genre, much like what the writers for Almost Human did with futurism/scifi.
If you're really "lucky", someone will manage to mash all the surface layer ideas of the Lovecraftian mythos to make a mindless, soulless pile of shit like the Hackowskis did for cyberpunk with the Matrix.

What's the sauce on your webm?

>The only way you could do a K'toolho movie at this point is to throw him in with the others in a quip filled action movie where they save the world.

This. Just put JewJew Abrams in charge and make it a "meta-ironic" quipfest with butt-kicking action grrrrrrrls

Not... from a Jedi...

lovecraft is inherently un-cinematic. the closest cinematic corollary to the way he writes would be like a fake ken burns documentary or something. something like the hellstrom chronicle but with occult shit instead of insects.

Who would play Cthulhu

Bruce Jenner

He gives off an eldritch vibe nowadays.

I know this isn't the board for it but if you want to experience a good Lovecraft Cuthulu story you should play Bloodborne on PS4.

Idris Elba

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was pretty fun tbH

OUTSHHHIDER!

YOU HAVE TO GO BACK

>be primordial immortal being awaiting the day where you shall herald the end of times
>get your shit pushed by a steamboat

there already is, dipshits.

how do you film something that the author literally states is unfathomably indescribable

...

Daily reminder that you're pronouncing it wrong.

We all are, really.

its shit

Dubs tells no lies

A Record of Sweet Murder, Koji Shiraishi's (of Grotesque and Noroi fame) first film with a sizable budget.
It is also latest entry of films where he utilizes eldritch beings with unspeakable power. Though in this film we are presented with a far different side to these entities, mostly due to it being an overall dramatic character piece with an almost romance flavor (as close to romance as a man who has made his career through mockumentary horrors and body horror/gore porn/rape movies.)
The other entries being Occult and Cult.
Occult presents these beings as partaking, deep in the background of the narrative, in an interdimensional jihad which has begun to leak upon the Earth.
Cult presents similar entities engaging in sectarian and subversive activities.

Two of those movies have subs.
Record of Sweet Murder is in both Japanese and Korean speak, so likely it will never be subbed in our lifetime.

Jaws style. Only show shadows and hints of it. The primary antagonists should be cult members trying to bring him back to life.

Have the story be described by a professor from the Miskatonic University. Have it done like how Dilios in 300 tells it. Played straight, but incredibly too fantastical to be completely believed.

This would work. I can already picture the set.

Aw he's such a sleepy bastard

Good till you get a gun, for more cthlulululu i recommend listening to some wayne june audio books hard to find but worth it

I want a Shadow Over Innsmouth movie

>no gibbous

As a German the story becomes more and more meaningful with each day. I'm basically waiting for the Order of Refugees Welcome to knock at my door and telling me to breed with a a burka.

(bloodborne looks awesome)

Merkel is that Captain that promised us to revive our fishing grounds, but we have to sacrifice our culture in order to do so. What is happening with islam here is almost literally what happened with the Deep Ones and the Order of Dagon.

Like first it's just trading favours. Then it's more or less hidden coexistence. Then it becomes mainstream. Then it's forced upon you and I end up being a fucking drunk on Sup Forums trying to explain some fucking liberal from the states why Islam is bad.

Outside of the technical inaccuracies regarding U boats having windows and such, I see no reason why a The Temple film couldn't work. Outside of the initial skirmishes with ships and the diving sections (which could be done with scale models and a big fish tank), the whole thing takes place on a single set and the story doesn't feature any "indescribable" or "eldritch" elements that might be hard to visualize.

Are we too far in the modern age for Cosmic Horror? We peeked through Hubble and Chub Niggurah isn't out there.

It worked back then because scientific discoveries weren't as vast as today's.

>giant unspeakable all powerful horrors aren't actually real
Well fuck me sideways user.
Still. It doesn't change a fact that we are just atoms in the game of stars.

But that's not horrifying. Black Science Man isn't crying that we should be afraid of space, since we're made of stardust. There is no urgency, no "oh shit our souls are going to be eaten guys". Even hurricanes and global warming and black holes aren't that frightening since it's a part of nature with explainable natural laws.

Cosmic horror is beyond understanding and absolutely horrifying. Nothing in this universe warrants such terror. We are too educated about the knowns and the unknowns gets smaller and smaller.

I don't know. Let me just check the previous 100 threads we've had about the exact same topic this year so far.

Maybe the real horror is that space is pretty boring and there's no unknowable cosmic beings out there waiting to be discovered.

The comfiest of subjects, imhofam.

Fucking this, if you can make a game that's good on it (in atmosphere/world building) you sure as fuck can make a good film

>it will never be subbed in our lifetime.
please, i'm willing to bet computers will be able to do it in the next couple decades no problem... please.

>better to have real demons that can torture you in this universe than none that can do you no harm.

are you a masochist? Count your blessings.

I think most people would rather suffer than be bored when it comes down to it.

Then they don't know what they're asking. It's like that stupid quote about reigning in hell. Can one imagine being burn forever, unable to shut off the pain?

spoopy!

I havent read much about it, i remember the ipswich one and the story where him and his uncle fight a ghost or something and they get flamethrowers.

If Christ doesnt deliver us from this evil i kinda hope we follow the strong (but fake) religion

The story is by far his most popular work, you can hardly blame people for mentioning it in relation to him.

Well, if Koji wrote all the Korean lines with direct translations, that's possible.

But at this point in time Worst Korean speak is doggerel and prone to fad slang that comes and goes as the seasons change. Would require a lot of continuous human input.

l2read

In The Mouth of Madness was a pretty solid cosmic horror film (even if it wasn't a direct Lovecraft adaptation)

Looks preddy gud so far. Hopefully it doesn't turn into another haunted house walking simulator game

Fuck are you even talking about.

At least it would be interesting. And people would want to talk to you about it.

yeah carpenter is the boss
IF YOU KNEW HOW TO READ GOOD YOU'D KNOW

You're an idiot.

If it was done in similar atmosphere to Cloverfield then yeah maybe.

at least i'm not sitting on Sup Forums at five am looking like a dumb shit

you retards do realise life in space is a garuntee based on size of the universe alone

there may very well be giant tentacle monsters but we cant see them or make contact with me yet

No ones saying there's no other life in the universe tardbreath, just there's no unspeakable cosmic horrors awaiting us that will drive us insane just by looking at them. Maybe just some mind flayer looking things if we chance across them.

I would say Shadows Over Innsmouth is probably the best Lovecraftian movie to adapt. It's longer than most of his stories, so more material to adapt, it has more action segments for the average audience, and does a good job of easing into the mythos, rather than smacking them over the head with the high concept stuff.

so you'll use the idea of an infinite universe (irrespective of shape) to justify aliens but magic space squids is too far

>we cant see them or make contact with me yet
>make contact with me
>me

>how do you film something that the author literally states is unfathomably indescribable

ah the classic "lovecraft is unfilmable because his monsters are le indescribable horror" meme perpetuated by idiots who have never read lovecraft

overdone. there's already dagon (which i think is great) as well as an australian short film

Pretty much, yes.

thanks for clarifying as per my request

what this guy said
for the most part
not to mention people who don't understand horror at all
nowhere is it written you need to show the monster

The Case of Carles Dexter Ward

that's my favorite HPL story
there's an okay movie based on it called the resurrected, check it out

Just watch Dagon.
imdb.com/title/tt0264508/

wow I have never heard about it. Thanks, will definitely check it out!
Anyone seen The Reanimator by the way?
imdb.com/title/tt0089885/

it was alright
i think i was drunk when i saw it tho

Ancient Ones hate fags.

I swear the princess has the most attractive eyes I have ever encountered.
