Don't assume basics... SSD death and motherboard failures can cause slowing.

First of all check your task manager if something is hogging resources...

How old?

Most likely it's time for a new computer. Once they are slow and run hot even after a format, it's dead.

>How old?
She told me she was 16

I did not know she was 13, she ahh told me she was ahhhh 21. 18 perhaps

Components?
ssd or hdd

Someone still remembers....*here's one internet*

delete ur account

Check S.M.A.R.T
Check cpu and GPU temps
Check ram performance, plenty of boot programs for that
If all of that is good, then ur motherboard is done and you best get a new pc

Run CCleaner. Clear cookies and registry.
Also, if you don't shut down your computer regularly the RAM can back up. Do a full power cycle after running that program.

If you have an HDD, do a defrag. Don't do this if solid state. Defragging a solid state will fuck it up.

cheers
can't see anything unusual, have restarted
~6 years
both

>Ctrl alt delete

GPU driver is not installed proper? My gfx is super laggy when I have uninstall GPU drivers (before installing newer ones), e.g. I scroll stuff in file explorer and gfx tears and is laggy.

>>My computer is running slow
>>I think it's the GPU

Fucking moron.

Definitely heat throttling

Old Af.
If ssd check smart if hdd get ssd
dl speccy and send screenshot

restart it 3 times consecutively, boot in safemode, restart again, use ccleaner to delete startup programs and help memory issues, run mbam, run hitmanpro, restart

Sounds like you got infected with malware.

Do a System Restore back to a date before you noticed the slow down.

That will fix it.

Windows fun fact: Ctrl+Shift+Escape opens the task manager directly. You have learned.

It's people like you that ensure this will never happen

check that all your fans/coolers are still attatched and didnt bumb loose like processor cooler

FORMAT

thanks for the input guys
I unplugged everything and vacuumed inside
plugged in
started a few times, 3/4 times it didn't boot
then mouse wasn't working a few times
i don't notice any problems now, but i'm guessing something is still fucked and it's only a matter of time before it fucks again

S.m.a.r.t wasn't enabled, so i enabled it, have no idea what to do with it tho

>be OP
>comp running slow
>better download and install more shit
>.....
>profit!
Try freeing up space, bring up the task manager and see whats bogging you down my per-pubescent friend.

nothing suspicious in taskmanager
i only have 3g free on my ssd, but still that couldn't account for the slowness, and that hasn't changed since it improved last boot

Do yourself a favor. Back up everything NOW, Then try all your troublshooting.

thats great advice
such a drag though
I woulnd't even know where to start

>malware

This. First thing to check when a machine recently seems off somehow.

This.

Run a scan on your graphics card and ram, first. Rule those out. There are a ton of free programs out there, just google them.

SSD and disc drives can drastically slow load times if they are failing. First thing you should do is back up ur shit. Then, run an error check. Mac and Windows both have this integrated into the OS. Run that first. If that comes up clean, run a 3rd party one just to be safe.

If both of those are good, check your power supply and see if it is running well. There is a specific software that I can't think of at the moment that knows exactly what wattage each part of you hardware is running. If any part is below what they are rated, they will be related to, if not, the issue. Check your processor and how hot it is running. Most mobo's today will automatically slow performance to protect parts. Make sure your PC and Mac are running under recommended temps when under load.

Something I did that helped was running check disk which I then allowed to repair sectors at boot

Oh, and make sure your shit is clean. Like, physically. Get all the dust out of your graphics card, processor heat sink, and fans. I use a brush attachment on a vacuum for the outside parts, then I vacuum the inside using a pipe cleaner and other soft/thin utensils, while the vac is running just outside to pull dust away.

DON'T USE CANNED AIR.

>computer running slow
you have to restart it more than once a month, faggot

>Restart it once a month
Nigga my computer was never restarted for 3 fucking years and it was fine

You would already know about it if you could get it, but now that I have a copy of blootle I never have to worry about this shit again.

Please tell me the SSD is not your boot drive. If it is, delete some shit off the SSD.

If your PC runs Windows off of the regular HDD defrag the fuck out of it. The fact that your mouse is acting shitty and its not booting half the time tells me your mobo may be dying.

yeah it is sorrrrry
ssd is boot drive
>The fact that your mouse is acting shitty and its not booting half the time tells me your mobo may be dying

this seems like it may be it, which would be a huge drag.
i do a full boot every day
you said a lot of stuff but i don't know how to do any of that stuff

windows has been automatically defragmenting for a while.

it's ram. window-x and task manager, stupid OP. your browser is probably using 2 gb of ram.

it used to be that infringing on the windows swap file's space would slow things down. nowadays, your drive would have to be 99% filled to start to squeeze 16gb of swap file. it's probably ram, filled by the browser. my firefox ends up using 3gb sometimes... 2-3 times a day.

update your drivers

Don't go on porn sites faggot

There are more Christian sites that exist solely for giving bugs than there are porn sites

it's your PSU user, it's not delivering enough voltage to the components. one of these days, your PC will randomly shut down due to low voltage. finally, one day, the capacitors on the PSU will explode.

Almost 100% of the time when that happens, it means Windows is getting bogged down with processes in the background and other trash (auto updaters for browsers, etc).

Step 1: BACKUP YOUR DATA
Get an external hard drive, shit, get a USB thumb stick with enough space for all your documents. Pictures, music, fap folder, whatever. It's like $20 for a 64GB flash drive, get one and backup all your stuff.

Step 2: Reinstall Windows or (ideally) upgrade to Windows 10
If you already have Windows 10, this is super easy. I think Win10 can reinstall itself, but you'll have to google for exact details.

Step 3: Get an SSD
I'm guessing if your computer is taking a dump, that means it's old enough to still have a hard drive. If it still has a hard drive, you can massively increase performance and reduce the likelihood of drive failure (which you might be experiencing now) by getting an SSD. You can get a 250GB SSD for $65, that's plenty of space for most people and more importantly, it's cheap. I got an SK hynix SL308 (youtu.be/KC0DZjEKvEI) and I've been running it since mid December and it's ridiculous how much faster this is than a hard drive.

Pro tip: If you have a valid key for Windows 7, Microsoft will still let you upgrade to Windows 10 and enter the Win7 key for validation (as of a few weeks ago, at least). If that doesn't work, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free because of "accessibility features" (like the on screen magnifier, text-to-speech, etc) by going to MS's website: microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

tl;dr get an SSD and upgrade to Windows 10, you need a clean install of windows anyway to not have a slow, shitty computer
