6÷2(1+2)
| (3)
3 × 3 = 9

9 also. 6/2 is 3, times (1+2 is 3)

so 3 times 3 is 9. Britfag here and my year 3 teacher taught me well.

It's 6 asswholes.

I got 1

1

Parentheses go first, so 1+2=3, then 6÷2*3. Multiplication before division, so 6÷6=1.

6 divided by 2 = 3
1+2 = 3
3 + 3 = 6
ez

That would be 9.

1

85 so easy

>Multiplication before division
Except no, they go at the same time, so you go from left to right, doing the division first. It's 9.

p
e
m
d
a
s
1=2 = 3
so then
6/2x3
6/2= 3
3x3=9

Math teacher here.

PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction

6 / 2(1+2) - Parentheses: Add numbers inside
6 / 2(3) - Multiplication: Multiply 2 and 3
6 / 6 - Divide: Self explanatory dumbass
=1

It's 1 you inbreds.

21

You're a shitty math teacher then.

PEMDAS doesn't discriminate between M/D and A/S, you just go from left to right at that point.

Somehow i got the answer Kentucky

"The answer is that this is a badly-formed sentence. ... You can make claims about conventions and what is right and wrong, but really the burden is on the author of the sentence to put in some commas and make things clear. ... Math is not marks on a page. The mathematics is in what those marks represent."

M/D are interchangeable but the multiplication in this case would come first as it's still a part of the overall bracketed sum. Answer is 1

All of these fucking threads boil down to this; it goes as follows:

Anyone who says otherwise is an uneducated, third-world nigger.

Definitely got 1. Order of operations, niggers.

Incorrect. Order of operations. It's 1. Inside parenthesis first, then multiplication, then you divide.

OP here. listen, in order to stop all of this PEDMAS bullshit, we have to argue about how PEDMAS works. I was taught PEDMAS, but others was taught
P

AS

We need valid points, and proof to back them up.

get back to school

You are right user. The answer is 9, not 1.
Multiply or divide, left to right.

wolframalpha.com/input/?i=6/2(1+2)

The real Question:

100 - (100 - 1) = 99?
100 - 100 - 1 = -1?

1 fags

Get baited nerdz

The expression is poorly defined... it comes down to whether you read it as:
6/{2(1+2)} = 1, or
(6/2).(1+2) = 9
I'd be inclined to interpret the expression in the first way.

You are correct. I would only add it is M or D; A or S; LEFT TO RIGHT!!!

6÷2(1+2)
6÷2(3)
3x3
9

Your expansion isn't correct. If we replace the numbers with variables:

x - (x - y)
= x - x + y
= y

Therefore,

100 - (100 - 1) = 1

The way it's set up is all retarded...
Only an idiot would write a problem like that.

How retarded do you have to be to not get 9?

6/2(1+2)
3
6/2 x 3
3 x 3
9
>Might have got it wrong, don't remember if you
multiplication or division first or just what comes first.

Jesus Christ 6/2(1+2) Google = 9

What are you going on about? Multiplication and Division get done at the same time, left to right, addition and subtraction are done at the same time, left to right.

3x3=9 but 3/(1/3)=9 does as well. Just like 1+2=3 and 1-(-2)=3. They get done simultaneously with equal priority because subtraction is synonymous with adding negatives.

It's what comes first.
See for explanation

Time to get a new job

If you are a math teacher pls kys
Literally paid to teach and teaching children wrong math

please erect my dick and suck

always been 1 fucktards

You guys are literally bottom feeders its 1 as in this example straight from a math site.

...

youtube.com/watch?v=y9h1oqv21Vs

It's a fucking fraction you retards. 2(2+1) is the denominator.

PEMDAS is for second graders. Just follow the parentheses from inside out, as in: (6/{2[1+2]})

the answer is
SEND NUDES

>PEMDAS doesn't discriminate between M/D and A/S, you just go from left to right at that point

trying to sound smart on an imageboard?

old fags will say 9.
new fags will say 1.
Formating is unclear. Math as a language,is only sensible if its syntax is concise.

only good answer here

It's only 9 if you read like a retard. In order for the answer to be 9 the problem would have to be as follows
(6/2)(2+1)
But it isn't is it. The 2 after the division belongs in the denominator of the fraction, not the numerator, so

6/(2[1+2]) is the correct way to read the problem

i read as a :
6 / 2 * ( 1 + 2 )
and result i got is 9
i am a newfag here in the whole Sup Forums. srsly the hell is wrong with you guys? desinformation is this seriously ? fuck the future is going to be a piece of shiet

You're wrong. The 2 belongs in the denominator with the (1+2). Read a couple posts above. It's about how you group the terms with parentheses

6/2(1+2)
6/2(3)
3(3)
9

1

clarify me then.
step by step.

9

>
No, it's really not. Type it into a computer program the way it is written in the OP, and it will evaluate it as 9.

Multiplication and division have the same precedence level and are evaluated from left to right.

If the writer of it intended you to read it with parentheses like you added, they would have written it with them. The answer to this problem is objectively 9.

6/2(1+2)
=6/2(3)

6 divided by 2 multiplied by 3. You then complete them from left to right and get 9.

Fag

6/2(3)=6x1/2(3)

1

1

Only tards get answers that aren't 9. This thread is bait

Nope. Multiplication and division have the same priority in order of operations, so they are done left to right. Addition and subtraction have the same order of priority, so they too are prioritized left to right. Pretty basic stuff, really. Just Google it.

6÷2(1+2)=Lamp

Doesn't matter if you think they're "trying to sound smart", they're still objectively correct

I'll have a single Number 9

Lets go through step-by-step

6÷2 (1+2)
We start with this, if we follow PEMDAS rules

Parenthesis

Exponents

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) Multiplication or Division

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) Addition or Subtraction

We should first start with the parenthesis
So that people actually get this, we will distribute the 2 into the parenthesis.

2 --> (1+2)
(2+4)

Lets put that back in from
6÷2(1+2)
to
6÷(2+4)

Now, we add that parenthesis up to get

(2+4) = 6

And we put it back in as

6÷6

Now divide these to get

6÷6 = 1

1

There! Jeez, not so hard!

The only 1 here is the number of extra chromosomes you all clearly have

For anyone actually confused, look at it like this.
A number written next to parentheses implies multiplication: 6 / 2 * (1 + 2)
PEMDAS tells us to simplify things in parentheses , so the expression becomes 6 / 2 * 3.
This is where people get confused. PEMDAS tells us that we can divide and multiply out this expression from LEFT to RIGHT, so it's 6 / 2 * 3 = 3 * 3 = 9
(it is NOT 6 / 2 * 3 = 6 / 6 = 1, because there are no parentheses around the 2 * 3 that allow us to do it before the division).

Lets go through step-by-step

6÷2 (1+2)
We start with this, if we follow PEMDAS rules

Parenthesis

Exponents

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) Multiplication or Division

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) Addition or Subtraction

We should first start with the parenthesis
So that people actually get this, we will distribute the 1/2 into the parenthesis.

12 --> (1+2)
(.5+1)

Lets put that back in from
6÷2(1+2)
to
6÷(.5+1)

Now, we add that parenthesis up to get

(.5+1) = 1.5

And we put it back in as

6÷1.5

Now divide these to get

6÷1.5 = 9

9

There! Jeez, not so hard!
