they have hours. 11 on, 10 off. 3 for loading and unloaded. but a lot of drivers are indian and russian and just run for 24 hours at a time

You get paid by mile. Owner operators get paid a few dollars a mile. If you drive for someone its usually around 30 cents a mile or more depending on experience and what company you work for.

Don't know, basically googled "old ass truck", my point was transmission syncro rings where to my knowledge Patent in 1982 which began the death of 'double clutching' in 99.9999% of situations.
Protip: Unless you have an extremely heavy flywheel in some sort of plant machinery shifting from 2nd to 5th, which you wouldn't, you would never double clutch an up-shift.

That cheap car is something you never want to even touch, let alone drive on a regular basis. The real stuff is significantly north of there.
It's the same with trucking loads. The expensive stuff is either heavy haul, oversized, hazardous, runs through some truck-hating bureaucratic hellhole like New England, or some combination of all of the above. Runs which, if you were an O/O doing the same load, you'd net out a hell of a lot more than .40 a mile to make.
In reality the easy, low-hassle shit doesn't pay too much because it doesn't have to.

I am not a trucker, but brokers are the biggest assholes ever. I used to IT for one. Every time I'd be at their office I'd hear them on the phone cutting a deal the same way. Oh hey I have a load for you how much do you need? Oh, I don't think we do that much, let me ask my boss. Then they put them on hold, just sat there and screwed around, then go back on the line, he'll let me add on another $300 but that's as much as we can go.

Well pretty much all big truck companies that offer to help you get your Class A will make you sign a contract saying you will work for them for 2 years or so. It's better to just pay the money out of your own pocket.
