I don't want to be combative here, but EVERY year is a good year for music. Sometimes you just have to dig a little more.

Granted it's always more convenient when the current attention of the musical press tends to line up with whatever is interesting and exciting and new. But even when that's not the case, there are incredible releases every week.

The night skies are empty, for the stars are now among us.

2014 was pretty weak

there was no good hip-hop

prove me wrong

decent-tier releases (7/10):
antwon ep
kanye's TLOP
denzel curry
clams casino
czarface
Ka
Ras G/Ras G & The Koreatown Oddity

meh-tier (6/10):
aesop rock
bankroll mafia
belly
black milk/nat turner
drake
elzhi
g perico
holy smoke
knxwledge
kool keith
mac miller
schoolboy q
xavy rusan

forgettable (

This is retarded

not an argument

like not even close to one

2016 was one of the worst year for hip hop. Pretty much every hip hop album that came out was awful and disappointing, especially from some names I was looking forward to, like Denzel Curry, Kanye, Clams Casino, Ferg and Travis Scott. 2bh the best hip hop album from 2016 was Eversince.

This is some advanced autism
>hip hop is shit
>why do you think I listen to so much??

Find a new fucking genre

it's been my favourite genre since i was a kid

just because the genre has a bad year doesn't give me 'advanced autism'

try again.

you spent a lot of time on this shit bait didn't you?

it took me about 2 or 3 minutes of scanning through my music library and remembering what i thought of each album

what about it is 'shit bait'?

>TLOP better than most of those other records
>ATCQ and Danny Brown "forgettable'

>drake, clams, and denzel curry ranked higher than kendrick, q, chance and vince

>frank ocean on this list at all

>6/10 is "meh" on your scale
WEW

chance isn't good, he had about 2 good tracks on acid rap (good ass intro and smoke again) but whatever that last tape was was completely forgetabble

vince's summertime 06 was great, but that came out in 2015, the prima donna tape in 2016 was garbage in comparison

untitled unmastered was as boring as TPAB

blank face is alright but knowing he can make something like habits & contradictions makes it pale in comparison

views at least had a few bangers, denzel's tape was rock solid

>prove me wrong
>doesn't provide proof of validity
>look guys I'm the pierro of hip hop rsres 7s

frank is hip-hop inspired enough to belong on the list

go cry about it somewhere else

Why do you even listen to hip hop?

>ATCQ and Danny Brown "forgettable'
i cant name any track off ATCQ's album and i've listened to it multiple times

danny brown's meme production on that album ended up being a drawback, he needs to stick to styles like on XXX

Nah I'll be having sex with my girlfriend with it on repeat, spotify of course ;)

>Why do you even listen to hip hop?
what kind of question is that?

because i like it i guess, it's my favourite genre

i'm not looking for proof of validity, i'm looking for >=8/10 albums that i've somehow missed

7 = good
6 = good but probably don't want to listen to again

>i cant name any track off ATCQ's album and i've listened to it multiple times
You must have a mental deficiency.

>meme production
Pic related

>XXX
AKA the most overrated mixtape of all time

>You must have a mental deficiency.
what a surprise, washed up 45 year old rappers aren't that creative anymore...

>AKA the most overrated mixtape of all time
i don't even think XXX is that great, but it's obviously his peak.

If you're going to to use the word 'proof' you have to be able to prove your own scale and justify your choice. Just don't fucking say "prove me wrong" unless you attempt to prove yourself right.

you don't get to choose what words i use. i asked for proof that there was no good hip-hop, so the burden of proof (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical_burden_of_proof In epistemology, the burden of proof (Latin: onus probandi, shorthand for Onus probandi incumbit ei qui dicit, non ei qui negat) is the obligation on a party in a dispute to provide sufficient warrant for their position.) is on you if you believe you have some good hip hop

It was pretty alright in my opinion. Had a few albums I can actually see myself listening to for a long time.

Dude two thirds of what you listed is absolute trash. I don't need your """""expertise""""" in hip hop recs.

You didn't rank Doms, dj Shadow, Anderson Paak, Vic, j dilla, guicci, de la soul, travis scott, mick jenkins, nxworries, gambino, cole, OR RTJ

>look I'm right
>wikipedia

This site is for 18 year olds

That guy has been shitting up a few threads these past few days. Uses the same gorilla pics for everything. Grade A shitposter.

>Dude two thirds of what you listed is absolute trash. I don't need your """""expertise""""" in hip hop recs.
i wasn't offering you any recs you brainlet, do you know how to read? i was asking for recommendations

> Doms
literally who?

>dj Shadow
literally irrelevant post-endtroducing

>Anderson Paak
i don't really consider him hip-hop but i'd put malibu in forgettable tier

>Vic
mensa? i didn't hear the ' There's Alot Going On' EP if that's what you mean

>j dilla
i have better things to do than listen to the 20th posthumous release his mom puts out to pay rent

>guicci, de la soul, travis scott
learn to read, all 3of these are in forgettable tier in my post
birds was laughably bad compared to rodeo

>mick jenkins
fell off after water[s], assumed whatever he put out wasn't going to be good

>nxworries
suede's their only good track

>gambino
literally memerap

>cole
i'm too old to listen to this freshman-core

>RTJ
not worth listening to after RTJ2, they're a one trick pony

again , i never said i was right, i was asking for albums i missed

how is this so hard for you?

btw 2017 power rankings so far:

8/10 good tier
calvin harris/frank ocean/migos - slide
tha god fahim - the dark shogunn saga vol. 2
tha god fahim - the tragedy of shogunn

tha god fahim - dreams of medina 2
xxxtentacion - free x

6/10 meh-tier
jidenna - the chief

knxwledge - WTPRT10.8

oh i forgot mach hommy's 'haitian body odor' in 6/10 meh-tier

Okay thank you official Sup Forums critic. Can't wait to see your top 10 at the end of the year!

It started out really weak and disappointing with shit like "AAH FRANK SINATRA, IM SO HIGH I MIGHT DIE" but yeah it got good later on.

>Okay thank you official Sup Forums critic. Can't wait to see your top 10 at the end of the year!
i'm looking forward to, hopefully kendrick will surprise with something actually good for the first time in 5 years. tha god fahim's 'iron monkey' produced by camoflauge monk comes out next week which i have high hopes for. i don't know of any other releases to get hyped for though, do you?

>meme production

>muh 'post-punk flavoured hip-hop'
it didn't work

In hip hop I really don't have anything else to look forward to other than Kendrick. No other rapper has really hyped a project this year. Hoping for a Pusha T drop this year. Maybe even DOOMStarks if the planets align

it's not for plebs like you!

the legitimately worse taste i have ever seen on this board

>Maybe even DOOMStarks if the planets align
i think i was all the way back in high school when this rumour started, at this point i'm assuming it's as unlikely to come out as madvillainy 2

>it's not for plebs like you!
well keep enjoying it then

>the legitimately worse taste i have ever seen on this board
feel free to recommend me some good 2017 hiphop that i missed so far

Check out Kill - Yourself. I strongly recommend it.

why the anger?

Name a single good album released after 2013

im still finding albums i should have put on my 2016 list.

>an estimated 100k albums come out every year btw

You're shitting up a thread that could've been interesting. Stop posting on this site altogether

hmm let me think about that for a moment

>You're shitting up a thread that could've been interesting.
alright, nope. at least my posts are about music that came out in 2016 which is on-topic, all you're doing is flaming.

>Stop posting on this site altogether
i've been here longer than you (i promise) (so no)

It was p ok desu

Okay then, enjoying having a shit taste and spending your time refreshing this page waiting for (You)'s

>Okay then, enjoying having a shit taste and spending your time refreshing this page waiting for (You)'s
i somehow doubt i'm going to get any, i think i've exhausted just about every hip-hop album that could have been worthwhile in the first place

First post best post

i respectfully disagree

>i respectfully disagree
with?

your opinion

what would you change?

>wiley - godfather
>5/10
u cheeky cunt m8 bloody yanks know nuffin about RIDDDIMS

i'm a canadian not a yank

drake's got all the riddims i need

i would rate denzel, kanye, asap verg, chance and aesop a little higher, drake and mac miller way lower. danny brown kendrick young thug frank ocean way higher

Danny brown... Less than a 8. Mfw

from ur post im gonna guess you didnt bother to listen to the divine feminine

I don't have to prove you wrong. You just did it yourself.

i've listened to it once, wasn't impressed, i might check it out again later and change my mind about it

>I don't have to prove you wrong. You just did it yourself.
which albums did i miss?

yeah this is pretty retarded

When is there ever good hip hop?

>When is there ever good hip hop?
every year outside of 2016

>yeah this is pretty retarded
elaborate?

t. retard

What's your favourite hip-hop album from 1963?

>he still doesn't know about kaytranada

>t. retard
now i get it

the worst opinion I have ever seen
>Frank Ocean is hip hop
>Anderson Paak isn't
how fucking stupid are you?

wow this thread went to hell fast, least he first post isn't trash

>What's your favourite hip-hop album from 1963?
its instrumental hip-hop

but the first post is objectively wrong. the notion that a year has to produce good music is inherently false.

why are there so many pictures of gorillas in this thread? I think 2016 had a lot of good music

i already said anderson goes into forgettable tier, what more do you want from me?

they aren't even hip hop

nxworries is but Malibu and Blonde are fucking R&B you cunt

what part of
>i don't really consider him [anderson] hip-hop
do you not understand brainlet?

you are seriously mentally challenged

i literally excluded anderson's malibu from my 2016 list because i don't consider it hip-hop, and here you are saying
>Malibu and Blonde are fucking R&B you cunt
stop pretending to be retarded

was there any good metal or rock or reggae or punk or alt or anything besides hip hop and rap?

this gorilla poster should probably suicide

I think that's pretty fair

>this gorilla poster should probably suicide
you really convinced me with that, i'm going to go suicide.

brb in 10

bump
