Emergency ward nurse. ...shits starting to desensitize me.

And working 14 hour shifts...i think is getting to negligent levels.

Killer money tho to watch junkies OD tho

Decent career user, noble but fucking tough. Try not to an hero from all the shit.

What do you even do with junkies?

(obviously being wall street I'm also a junkie but nothing that's gonna put me in the ER)

Second year md resident. Already regretting my choice. Hopefully the money will make up for it eventually.

Exactly what you do.

Do math, talk shit and take money off stupid people?

What country? I have ausfag mates in med and its great, UK and US not so much.

Mortician

Try not to get bashed by em mostly its meth psychosis.

Occasionally have to punch em or we all hold em down to put in drips or antinarcotics drugs.

Security dont do shit. And it takes 10 nurses to hold down some charged up patients.

Hopefully a year or two more and ill get a high paying desk job to determine surgeries and patient options for care and treatment and no longer deal with blood n guts

I'm in the US.

>responds to op as if op's doing exactly what leonardo dicaprio is doing in that movie

And stop bitching nurses do your job and get paid less anyway

Oh yeah, fucking shite for the first few years until you can go private and flip overpriced pharma to paranoid idiots right?

Or is that too cynical?

I fucking wish. It was in the 80s though.

You assholes just pass all your work off to the floor staff. Can't place an IV, can't place an NG tube, and don't even critically think about the meds "he's got an insulin and cardizem drip, you guys can do that on med surge right?"

"I know she's on sepsis protocol and we were supposed to give fluids but no one could get an IV so the MD ordered a PICC."

"It's 3 fucking am who is gonna place it, you calling IR?"

Christ.

Hopefully you guys are better then my fucking garbage ED.

Do something easy user. Work in like immunology or derm. Something that pays okay but doesn't have bullshit insane fucking hours and constant call. Intensivist, cardiac, and trauma are glamorous but our docs work themselves to death in those specialties.

Your 55 year old self will thank me.

Opthalmology is a good spec, in aus you can earn 1m+/yr because they are in such short supply. Also, never on call - and pick their own hours.

If you study in the US it's super easy to move over.

Work in a bank, planning, strategy, management support.
26 years and 150k next year, can't complain bout that. Of course it costs me 12 hours a day, but everything has a price

Yeah... even as a resident I make more than charge nurses. I don't bitch at nurses, unless they're lazy as fuck.

Which bank? Can just say which country it's HQd in if you don't want to say.

Are nurses massively butthurt towards doctors or is that just a stereotype?

im economic planer/manager in a big company

Same as you. Fuck other men.

90% of Sup Forums are CS memelords

This is why I find the finance type so abrasive. They literally contribute nothing of value to the world. All they are concerned with is making a buck off of other people's backs.

I'm not sure thats true.

Newfags have never stuck around, I think the demographic has shifted and most of the oldfags are now in real careers.

To be fair, we do actually add value in the form of liquidity, price discovery etc. but I do get your point.

The only real argument in favour is that the entire system is so corrupt that the only sensible response is extreme self-interest.

Protip from a nurse, if you end up working in the hospital, DO NOT be the piece of shit doctor that flips out if you get called for orders at 3am when you are on call.

The more timid nurses will hold out until something catastrophic happens if you have that reputation and your patient outcomes will be worse.

There is one surgeon on my old surgical floor that won't let the house doc order for his patients unless it's a rapid and screams at the nurses when they call after 11p. I couldn't care less about when docs get piss over their job but making my softer coworkers cry on the phone really buys a fuck ton of ill will from the people who actually watch your patients for problems 24/7.

Just... don't be that guy.

Kek you work 12 hours a day and you're employed by a bank? How is this even possible? They work cush hours and get off every single holiday no matter how trivial. You fags probably get groundhog day off

But I admire those who see it differently. I wish I could.

Nearly went to med school, sat the tests and was accepted - but I cant stand the idea of being funnelled into an extremely specialised and narrow-focused area and working in an incredibly strict bureaucracy.

There are two types, the ones that are super slutty towards docs to hopefully marry one, or doctor wannabes that have a chip on their shoulder.

Oh my god another pompous nurse that loves to complain. Get over your superiority complex honeybun.

t. paramedic

Bankers do up to 20hr days, especially while young. A kid at GS died a few years ago after working 2mths 18hrs a day 7 days a week.

I don't plan on it. As soon as residency is over I don't plan on visiting a hospital until my first heart attack.

Define massively butthurt in this context? I don't even know that as a stereotype.

Most docs I work with only clash when they are shitty people or one side fucks up, which does happen.

The majority of my interactions with docs at work are pleasant and mutually beneficial. We both want to take care of our patient so it behooves us to help each other.

I think I had a heart attack a few years ago. Should I talk to a doctor about it?

Spotted someone not in medicine.

Naughty nurse pornos aren't real life bro.

OK cool thats kinda what I was getting at. I had an idea that a lot of nursed resented doctors for their "higher" place in the pecking order - had heard that from a few med mates but glad to know thats not the case.

Not that user, but nurses DO flirt with doctors all the time.

Yes, you should be visiting your general practitioner at least twice a year.

Dem statins brah, get on that train.

Also 1asprinaday

Does a heart attack permanently affect your heart / health?

> Fuck you, capitalist pig

Ok wallstreet. What marijuana company stocks should I invest in? This market is ready to explode but it's hard to tell what good picks are. How can I protect myself against the legality of purchasing these stocks? My understanding is some of the companies have been removed from the markets and investors were shit outta luck. What say you?

> goes to [website]
>wins at life

I know a rbs trader who got heavily into that market about 3 years ago - had a few issues but generally did ok.

I don't deal with equities so I wouldn't know what to recommend, but off the back of trump's strong anti-drugs rhetoric I would hold off for a few months to see what happens.

After that, if it looks like it's going ok then invest in the market leaders. There's no 'disruption' in growing weed, it's a very simple business, and the largest players with the most capital are best positioned to capitalise.

Gotta love when the glorified chest thumpers/truck drivers chime in. Just kidding, I was a medic for years. You don't know shit about what happens after your delivery until you've worked the other side. We should respect everyone involved in patient care from the techs to the intensivists. Everyone plays an important part. When you trash one role for anything except being bad at their job you only hurt the patient.

oh man you healthcarefags are way less cunty than I expected. GJ user.

than you for your non answer, proving that while you may or may not be in wallstreet, you truly are a faggot.

It sucks we have this dichotomy. I hate the communist progressive Bernie Sanders types but I also find the greedy business swine who put money over their own people to be completely abhorrent. Seriously, you're already stupid fucking rich, yet you are willing to sacrifice the future of your own people by importing third world migrants or outsourcing jobs to make more money. Fucking sickening.

Being a janitor in NYC does not mean you're a Wall Street fag neckbeard

Really? Most of what I see is the other way around. Doctors rubbing nurses shoulders awkwardly while giving orders and showing off their new watches or in one specific case his "custom made cologne scent that emphasizes my own fragrance." I swear to god that's a direct quote. He paid $800 for it.

Thank god I have a dick so they leave me alone. It's creepy to see.

fine, ignore my well thought out advise.

Buy CGC.TO, expected to double in price in 30 mths or so.

Yeah, but the janitor didnt get a 185k bonus last quarter at 28yo faggot.

There are absolutely some nurses that are jealous of docs as a rule but it's not widespread. I'd love their income but don't want their initial debt or working hours.

I'm jealous of the docs that were smart enough to do private practice in specialties like dermatology with no call and good pay but I don't envy the docs I work with. They spend on average twice as many hours in the hospital per week that I do and most have multiple nights of call per week. They earn the fuck out of that pay.

That's a rare attitude user, you should be proud.

kek, so is being a dude a + or - in nursing or is it pretty much normal now and you get treated the same?

maybe he wants to fuck all the doctors too... its 2017 after all

It has benefits and it has negatives.

Nurses deal with a lot of crazy patients, females nurses are constantly groped and harassed by this population, males nurses run the risk of being accused of sexual misconduct much more often. Just last week a male nurse I work with was accused by a patient and they had to run the full investigation, accusation was dropped after the patient started accusing techs of poisoning his ice water and the social worker of drinking his IV, but it still sucked for my coworker to be investigated.

I feel like the older school docs listen to my input more often then my female counterparts which I guess is a plus? It's kinda just crappy in general. Working with docs in their late 70s is a challenge in if itself.

You get asked to be reassigned every now and then as a male nurse, usually for religious reasons. Some devout Muslim and Jewish families won't let me take care of their female members. Doesn't bother me, just something that happens.

I was discrimin are against during my maternity clinical, not a single post part (after birth) mother would allow me to do their assessment despite most of their labor and delivery docs being male. It was frustrating not to get that aspect of my education but I didn't push the issue as I knew I'd never work that specialty anyway.

Oh you are also always the first person the techs ask to boost a patient in bed or transport someone to a stretcher.

I hear we make a bit more money too but I can't prove that as I don't really know my coworkers take-home.

I'm specialist in orthopedic surgery.

Brazil

Only employees without management function work 6 hours.

But I'm very "lucky", I'm too young for my role

I guess there is one of the negatives right there... a ton of people still assume all male nuses are gay. That and the constant "why didn't you become a doctor?" They get old quick.

Health Insurance fag here.

I collect 5 cents per member per month as a bonus to my salary.

Currently have 4.39M members active. Make a bonus of about $220,000 each month.

I look at data and make sure it's right and that we bill the right people.

eh fuck em and those type of questions. sounds like a pretty decent gig though after you get your qualifications

I fucking hate typing on phones. So much of that post got screwed up.

I look for like you and put a knife to your face and say give me all you got on you.

34 year old UKfag.
Been a firefighter for 13 years, been working part time for the ambulance service for the last 3 years. I do wonder about the state of my mental health sometime as I've seen some pretty fucked up but not much really affects me, their all just random people I don't know. I quite like going out and looking at gore.

If nursing was just nursing I'd love the career. Pay is decent, working 3 12s per week is pretty great, most of the time people respect the job, and I read somewhere we are the single most trusted field in the US which is a good feeling.

Unfortunately nursing also entails being the tech, the housekeeper, the kitchen, the laundry room, the waiter, and the secretary while still having our job to do because in the hospital the people filling those roles aren't around 24/7 or just a button push away like nurses are. And patient satisfaction scores determine hospital funding so administration has nurses play every role.

Thats the only real reason I'm considering getting my NP is to get away from the external bullshit and focus on making my patients healthy.

Easier lose money then to earn it.If you don't compete you lose.

oh shit didnt think about all that, i guess thats the way to do it then, eventually work towards NP. one more question, what seperates the good nurses from the bad ones is it just williningness to bust ass or is it more of where/what they learned through education? all in all sounds pretty legit

Unfortunately that's human nature. The best of us tend to rise to the top, but also the worst of us.

confirmed for either intern in an investment bank or a complete retard... or just a liar... because everyone on wall st (or in ibanking) HATES the memes, and they're all generally very nice (albeit intense) people

Our education primarily puts us in a position of "knowing enough that you won't accidentally kill your patient." The best nurses are the ones with a drive to learn after graduating because healthcare is constantly evolving combined with as much actual work experiencecas possible.

Your education can teach you the signs and symptoms of when a patient is taking a bad turn but reading from a textbook is very different then having a patient and recognizing what is happening in front of you. Seeing a patient and being able to instantly realize what's happening to them can only really come with experience. Plus years of experience let's you get better at the physical skills too, you only get good at placing IVs by missing 100 of them, they can't teach you that skill in the classroom.

In the hospital at least, there are no nurses that survive that don't bust their asses. When you have 7 patients you are sink or swim taking care of them, if you don't know how to hustle or can't keep up with time management you won't survive.

Most of the lazy nurse stereotypes come from desk jobs which is a whole different world from the hospital. I'd love one of those jobs but the pay cut is too much for me right now. Maybe in my 40s when I inevitably burn out.
