Underrated album, Turn Into is a killer track
What album?
Jay Som - Turn Into
Seance was shit compared to this, and this was only a 6/10.
Check this out dude.
What's with the Tangible Rays hate?
Probably got posted one too many times for the autists
Both were about a 6/10 imo.
Cool sounds, but fails to really stimulate any significant feelings or thoughts
Hahahahahaha How The Fuck Is Hating Tangible Rays Real Hahaha Nigga Just Walk Away From The Screen Like Nigga Take Off Your Headphones Haha
they listened to it
Whats the essentials of dream pop?Like early stuff
Opinions on this? Trying to listen to more 2017 releases.
Is Bane's World dreampop?
youtube.com
I am a Lake of Burning Orchids just dropped a new project
iamalakeofburningorchids.bandcamp.com
This needs more attention
Have you listened to this yet? It's up with ersatz window imo desu
HOT
Thoughts? I think the ambient/drone elements with lo-fi pop songs mixture is neat
What's mu's opinion on Fleeting Joys?
you're shit
Listening to this for the first time now.
Sorry guys, don't know what to tell ya.
Entirely indistinct music like Tangible Rays' don't really get anywhere past pleasant.
Sure it could have cool influences, a neat sound, Beach Boys-inspired harmonies, whatever. But if all that is used entirely to set up an atmosphere, and there's nothing else done for the song past that, there really isn't much there to enjoy.
Feels to me like a reinterpretation of a style, which is alright, but without anything else to share or express past that.
He or they are all shills. Tangible Rays is really not memorable and you're right. All other albums posted in this thread right now are better releases.
weak b8 m8's
Thoughts on The Stargazer Lilies? I enjoy their sound but it sounds like it's missing something... low end or something?
>any good? about to listen to it
sorry didn't mean to quote
yeah it's really good
They're the most convincing MBV clones out there, and the singer sounds exactly like Kevin Shields. Pretty good stuff, and they even have choruses, which Loveless lacked.
Sicc, I love the Flenservs stuff usually so I'm excited
Why is there so little innovation in shoegaze relative to many other rock subgenres? Do the fans just not open themselves to it or are there just not enough bands taking risks for it to make a noticeable impact? I love this stuff but I really want it to evolve faster.
the sound is just too closely associated with the style and fashion of it.
people consider it to be kind of a whole package instead of just applying heavily treated guitars to stuff
And is there a number I can call to change that?
call a p4k writer and have them do a piece on the lack of progression in shoegaze, then start a band
It's not an "open source" genre. People associate it with the certain sound and don't want to stray from it.
If they stray from it, it becomes a different genre, hence blackgaze.
Harakiri for the Sky
This isn't really shoegaze. It sounds really good and has nice drones but I don't think the sounds are abrasive enough. It's very ambient. Good stuff though

Are we getting a new album out of this? Weird for it to be an album of only one track, not a single.
Did anyone read the links he posted in the thread yesterday (if that was him posting)? Looked like some deep lore but the thread was dead by the time I got home.
They're pretty good. Don't know if I'd call them shoegaze, they're more meloblack.
I do wish they'd do more fast/heavy stuff like Jhator from Aokigahara instead of the slow depressive stuff, the screamo vocals work a lot better with energetic music.
OP mentions more genres than shoegaze
I would like to see more bands draw from how symphonic gamelan music layer their composition. Specifically how both have several distinct lines of melodic and rhythmic content layered on top, interlock, and play off of each other. I think having a large variety of effect pedals at your disposal has a huge potential for this type of layering because even though you would only be using guitars, you could easily make each line sound different from each other. That's not to say shoegaze doesn't layer their music, it's just that when I think of shoegaze, I don't think "layering guitar pedals and feedback in an intricate way" I think "wall of sound and obscured vocals". Using actual symphonic or gamelan instruments in shoegaze may or may not be a good idea (though tangentially, if anyone is interested in rock music that incorporates gamelan instruments, look up the band Macha).
>symphonic gamelan
*symphonic OR gamelan
Is RBT dead? I've been away from Sup Forums for a bit.
not sure but it's been down for a while
any album similar to pic
stone roses s/t

What are some essential shoegaze chords?
alternating between I and IV
help a lad out fixing a shite chart

what needs to get swapped out for what
rows run X0 - X9
Kinoko Teikoku - eureka
for 2013
real nigga hours
Y'all niggas got anything like Deafheaven, but less metal?
Alcest
...
i feel like Heaven or Las Vegas is a better album from 1990 than Nowhere, but Nowhere is more shoegaze so im torn
Macha is pretty awesome and I fully endorse your plan for the future of shoegaze.
What went wrong?
They stretched the bottom half.
I grew out of shoegaze a long time ago, but I'm doing it again and incorporating some really weird stuff in it, but I don't post my stuff on Sup Forums.
better than loveless
you're on to something, yet i don't feel it's a representative list of shoegaze throughout the years. too many recurring artists, maybe too much blackgaze in the 00s although it's hard to ignore the impact of an album like sunbather
2016: psub - grandfeathered
2015: psub - everything else matters
2014: nothing - guilty of everything
2013: mbv - m b v
2012: wild nothing - nocturne
2011: whirr - distressor
2010: radio dept - clinging to a scheme
2009: psub - happy songs for happy zombies
2007: angelic process - weighing souls with sand
2006: the goslings - grandeur of hair
2005: astrobrite - pinkshinyultrablast
2001: lovesliescrushing - xuvetyn
1997: yo la tengo - I can hear the heart beating as one
1992: medicine - shot forth self living
1987: jamc - darklands
This is amazing.
It's ok, but forgettable. I don't find myself revisiting it very often. A solid 6.5/10 imo.
Also some songs sound like early Coldplay with distortion, not a bad thing tho.
fuck its good

thoughts on this?
i don't dislike it, it reminds me of diiv every now and then. but other times they sound totally different like wall of sound shugazi bands.. or just your regular britpop band. a bit all over the place stylisticly.
I hit that dilemma too, as well as Lazer Guided Melodies vs. Down Colorful Hill for 1993
As much as I love eureka there's much better releases for the 2013 spot alone between Sunbather, m b v, and Ceres & Calypso
>too many recurring artists
I was kinda afraid of this, the multiple Beach House releases can definitely be toned down, but the abundance of cocteau twins can't really be helped unless anyone has suggestions otherwise
As far as blackgaze releases go I think Sunbather and Alcest's first or second album definitely belong on there
I'm just going to post polls for the years I couldn't figure out, thanks for some of these
does anyone know if mazzy star will release any new material soon?
they released season of your day in 2013 after not putting out anything for 2 decades and since then the only thing that came out have been hope sandoval's solo albums
>As much as I love eureka there's much better releases for the 2013 spot alone between Sunbather, m b v, and Ceres & Calypso
Hmm in that case Id probably put Ceres and Calypso.
As much as sunbather is huge, we definitely talk more about Ceres and Calypso.
reminder that this is the best general

Not shoegaze but Sonic Youth is pretty similar
>tfw tripped balls while listening to this and everybody works and now love jay som but this entire board hates hur due to being shilled by trendy e-blogs everywhere
>trendy e-blogs
it isn't 2009, these don't exist anymore
Good band, one of my favourite shoegaze bands.
Kiss a girl in black is one of my favourite songs of all time
Magnificent oblivion, young girl's fangs and patron saint are also very good.
If you want a more "original" sound, their first LP Occult Radiance is more unique sounding than Despondent Transponder
>baww there isn't enough artist variation theres too much beach house
>all psub and astrobrite for top now
Please stop reminding me that Carles is gone
What should I refer to pitchfork, fader, vice, etc now
refer to shugazi
don't refer to this nerd lmao
bump, 90s polls on the way
To whoever recced 宇宙ネコ子 in the other thread: thanks!
What even is a shoegaze gf anyway? Just a gf that listens to shoegaze?
