The European Championship field this year has been formed from a Euro Tour-only Order of Merit, which has resulted in Adrian Lewis throwing himself off a P&O ferry and Raymond van Barneveld stuck in an insulin-fuelled headshaking coma as both players miss a TV major for the first time since 2011. The fact the fat Stokie couldn't be arsed to commit to the Euro Tour at the back of the year is fucking shameful and Keith Deller should be battered for ruining one of the sport's great natural talents like this.
The afternoon includes recently dethroned World GP champion Robert Thornton against Tennereefy's Cristo Reyes, another youthful German-Dutch battle with Max Hopp facing Benito van de Pas and a St Helens derby between tantrum thrower Michael Smith and the stuttering Stephen Bunting. The big names come out in the evening with reigning Euro champion Michael van Gerwen restarting his battle with 2012's winner Simon Whitlock, Phil Taylor playing the latest Euro Tour winner Alan Norris and a scintillating final match of the first round with James Wade, the first man to defeat MVG on the Euro Tour this year, against current World Champion Gary Anderson.
Coverage starts at 12:45 UK time on ITV4 with the evening session starting from 19:00 UK time on the same channel.
