It's been almost 8 years since I watched it so I'll rewatch it before the new one comes out. Maybe I'll like it more this time around
Honestly while I like Kino's Journey a lot I don't know that I'd say it's among the best philosophical anime... it's morals are sort of on the nose and simplistic. It's driven more by it's atmosphere and interesting plotlines in my opinion, as well as Kino being a great character.
Take your time with it. Don't just marathon it, take each episode as a fine course meal and enjoy it slowly. Watch one episode, ponder upon it, then go to the next after a little while.
I especially recommend "the tower".

It's just that the philosophies are sort of presented in very straightforward ways to imitate the style of a fairy tale, which is a big part of the show's charm in my opinion but also sort of takes away from the depth a little. I'd say something like Tatami Galaxy or Monster would be a really great example of a philosophical piece. Or maybe something like Serial Experiments Lain or even Evangelion.
