I've been given a choice, Sup Forums. Do I teach English in Japan (through JET) or China?

I've been given a choice, Sup Forums. Do I teach English in Japan (through JET) or China?

get a real job weeaboo faggot

Have to start somewhere.

Do not go to China DO NOT GO TO CHINA

Japan, they'll be dubious of you but you'll have a much better quality of life.

Will you be able to get a green card/visa/whatever they call it in Japan? My friend moved to Japan to teach English and never could get sponsored by an employer. He wound up moving to Taiwan and "teaches" pre-school children English. Basically just babysitting. He's happy though because he has yellow fever.

Not bad actually, I was told about teaching in China through a buddy of mine, you make hella money for English lessons in Asian countries.

*sigh* Tell me more.

Through the JET Program, yes.

That's a big thing I'm considering. China would pay well and the cost of living is much lower, but Japan's always been my dream.

Don't bother coming, we have enough "English" teachers walking around but most of them are weaboos or got a severe yellow fever case

Hmm, I wonder why my friend had such difficulty getting a sponsor. I know he moved there without any prospects lined up whatsoever, and after two years or so moved to Taiwan. He left over a decade ago.

Tell me more.....

I understand that with Japan, you *really* have to have something lined up and prospects ready; they don't take just anyone.

Because it's a revolving door system. Why not just come and find out the hard way?

buddy of mine did jet, it was fine.

only thing he didn't like was the mandatory unpaid afterwork stuff, and the mandatory unpaid overtime, and the taxes sucked.

The women were ok he said, but watch out because the older ones (old for japan is like 26) will try to trap you into marriage.

Where do you plan on going if you work in China? I worked there as an English teacher for a few months, traveled all around the country, talked with a lot of experienced teachers, etc. and the most common point of advice is that the city and province you work in determines how bad your experience will be.

The money thing is a big problem. I can't really afford to be playing around with that.

OP you planning on becoming anonteacher 2.0?

Right now, Lanzhou.

Go to bed, SRK

Ahh gotcha.

I'm not interested, just was relating my friend's experience in case it had any use for OP. It didn't really, but I gained some insight into why my friend struggled at first. He's happy now. He never had much success with women, but was able to pick up Japanese college students constantly. That's why he moved to Japan.

Who was 1.0?

you into nerdy looking girls op?

I would be very careful with working anywhere in Northern China, at least below Outer Mongolia (never been). I haven't been to Lanzhou, but it has a very comparable climate and pollution problem to Beijing, and I can tell you that you would be miserable dealing with it. Within less than a week you'll start developing respiratory problems and be stuck with a constant chest cold that never goes away, and it can be absolutely brutal to deal with in the winter. There's also a lot of problems with muggers and scammers in most Northern cities that you won't find as much in the south, Shanghai excluded.

Personally I'd much rather have taught in Japan than China overall. The only real advantage to China is that its easier to find work, working conditions are easier, and it's extremely cheap to travel from any major city, including to anywhere else in Asia.

Right now, I'm not really into any girls.

All that is something to think about. Lanzhou is the best I'm qualified to teach.

You're probably overestimating how picky China is with teachers. I met a Hungarian guy who spoke really poor English who was teaching at a university in Shanghai with no experience, spent all of his time partying, admitted he didn't even know what he was doing most of the time, and still had enough leverage to negotiate weeks off of work by threatening to quit.

Of course you have to have a lot of confidence to assert yourself into positions like that, because China will readily fuck you over in every way you don't fight back against, but if you have the balls, you can get into surprisingly high places with just negotiating.

Mulling it all over (and things not mentioned here), I can see that Japan would be the best option. I'll just keep working on getting there.

Thanks for those who helped.

faggot detected

Japan.

The air in China alone is lethal.

can you tell more about the job? how'd you get it? good money? where have you been? i'm thinking about looking for a job as a germanteacher.

do you even know what japan looks like? you shouldnt even be considering this

japan is like an entire country of an anime version of disneyland

Friend, do not do Japan, whilst it is an awesome place to travel and kinda cool to live, the work conditions are harsh.

You are expected to be at work before your boss arrives and leave when they leave which often means 7.30am to at least 7pm but often as late as 10pm. You are also expected to work weekends, which means you very rarely get a day off.

Japan
Why would you even want to set foot in China? Would you even eat anything there, knowing that gutter oil might have been used in making it?

Japan i had a friend that did it and he said it wasnt to hard andyou dont even need tospeak the language for the most part u learnas u go but knownig some does help

Japan stupid.

Is this even a real question?

It's Japan. The best of the best compete for those programs. You must have something lined up beforehand. Your friend is fucking clueless.

Dont do Japan. They offer you like 43k in salary over but at last second they say "oh the job is 22k salary" hoping you dont notice. They pull that shit all the fucking time.

Source: best friend double majored in japanese language and psychology. Was offered multiple english teaching jobs in japan. All employers changed the job salary numbers at last minute when friend was agreeing to first offer and setting up to go

Friend taught English in China after college and essentially drowned in pussy.

China has some downsides (dirty, impolite) compared to Japan, but they're rich, eager to learn English (so teachers are treated well there), are embracing tourism, and are dtf. Separate from the sex stuff, China is cool because it's huge and you can do a ton of interesting domestic travel there: Anything from first world metropolis to Mongolian steppes. Lots of fun adventures to be had, tons of interesting food to eat. I'd pick China for sure.

Lived in China for a year teaching English. loved it
dont know what that guys problem is
Never been to Japan so i cant say which you should choose, but China is great

japan.
I used to live there. its nice. safe and clean. work is hard. but unless ur some millennial faggot who is scared of hard work that's no big deal.

china is filthy. crime against foreigners is higher than in japan too.

however. if ur an americunt go to china. they hate you but not as much as the japs do.

Depends what part of China. If you go to like, HK, it's decent, but there are quite a few shitholes there that you have to stay inside certain days because the pollution is too bad.

It's easy to get a visa if you have a degree. Most companies won't sponsor you without one though.

My brother and his wife taught in China for 6 years. They both said it was great, but Japan would have been better. Mostly because they were in guangzhou and the air quality was horrendous.

Why didn't he sue for damages?

hahahahaah ha
ha

Neither. Both are xenophobic as shit.

China has fucking awful ethics about everything, and both nations have shitty porn.

if he hadnt signed a contract yet they can change it to whatever thy want

He can still argue in court that they prevented him from taking a legitimate offer, along with travel expenses and opportunity cost.

He should really record all verbal agreements over the phone from now on.

Considering how bad you fucked that run-on sentence, I choose not to believe you about not needing to speak the language.

>and both nations have shitty porn.
dont need porn when youre drowning in pussy

Japan will pay you way more, China will take fucking anyone.
Source: I taught there for half a year while going to collage for bio, zero experience and off I went teaching at a small University in Qingdao

keep in mind, this is not in America
things are different in other countries

Japan.
China is a fucking shit heap full of sub-human rice niggers.

they must be working at some shitty companies/schools

It's better to work at an American company in Japan.

>drowning in hair and weird mouse-squeaks of pleasure
>maybe 3 inch dicks if you're into that

sauce on ops photo? is there a set?

>drowning in hair and weird mouse-squeaks of pleasure
i love it buddy
