Coen Brothers

Best: The Big Lebowski
Runner up: Fargo

Overrated: Hail, Ceaser!
Underrated: The Hudsucker Proxy

Second Worst: Raising Arizona (still good)
Worst: Intolerable Cruelty

why not The Ladykillers? that movie is a mess. an entertaining mess, but still... Raising Arizona is better.

Haven't seen it, but you're probably right.

best: zodiac
underrated: gone girl
overrated: the social network

Lynch

Best: The Thin Red Line
Runner-Up: The Tree of Life

Overrated: Days of Heaven
Underrated: To the Wonder

Worst: Days of Heaven

>Overrated: Days of Heaven
I fucking agree. That movie is trash and Richard Gere was piss poor. And that fucking child narration was terrible.

Burton

Best: Batman Returns
Runner up: Edward Scissorhands

Overrated: Sweeney Todd
Underrated: Mars Attacks

Second Worst: Dark Shadows
Worst: Alice in Wonderland

accurate

barton fink is their best f a m

best: mirror
runner up: stalker
underrated: nostalghia
overrated: solaris
worst: the sacrifice

It's not trash, but the story is good. I've enjoyed DoH much more than Tree of Life.

I think Raising Arizona is their best and their worst is Burn After Reading (which is really bad).

Wes Craven

Best: Scream
Runner up: The Hills Have Eyes

Overrated: A Nightmare on Elm Street
Underrated: Deadly Blessing

Second Worst: New Nightmare
Worst: The Hills Have Eyes Part II

>Burn After Reading (which is really bad).
No, you're just a dumb motherfucker who doesn't understand absurdist satire.

Best: The Thing
Runner Up: Prince of Darkness

Overrated: Halloween
Underrated: Escape From LA/Ghosts of Mars

Second Worst: The Ward
Worst: Pro-Life

>Overrated: Halloween
Thank God I'm not the only one. That movie was DULL and not atmospheric in the slightest.

I mean, I wouldn't go that far. Halloween is a great movie. Just not the game-changer it's sometimes regarded as, and easily the most overrated in Carpenter's filmography.

I was just about to do Carpenter. Completely agree with you choices.
The Thing is his best. Runner Up was Big Trouble although I havent seen Prince of Darkness.
Halloween does nothing for me. Both your Underrated picks are spot on.
Haven't seen The Ward yet.

Best: The Wrestler
Runner up: The Fountain

Overrated: Requiem for a Dream
Underrated: Pi

Worst: Black Swan

People love to talk about its Synth score striking fear into the hearts of viewers. It was awful. Watch the movie again and the score is used relentlessly. Halloween 3 is better in every way.

where's In the Mouth of Madness man?

I was torn between Big Trouble and Prince of Darkness, to be honest, they could both easily be the runner-up. The Ward isn't too bad if you really love Carpenter, but it's obviously a very deeply flawed movie. Do yourself a favor and skip Pro-Life, though.

Thought about putting that for Underrated, but it seems to be pretty well regarded these days. Not maligned on the level that EFLA or GOM are anyways. Brilliant movie, though, easily in Carpenter's top 5.

The satire which people want to look beautiful to hide how superficial they are? The movie is still really bad, I didn't laugh at any time nor had any sympathy for any character, and the story is horrible.

Tarantino

Best: Pulp Fiction
Runner up : Kill Bill: Vol. 2

Overrated: Django/Inglorious/Reservoir/Kill Bill
Underrated: Death Proof (1st half could have made an amazing short if it were a bit tighter)

Second Worst: Inglourious Basterds
Worst: Django Unchained

Yet to see The Hateful Eight.

>not enjoying that brilliant US government satire throughout the whole fucking thing
>not enjoying Osbourne Cox the crazed iddle management agent played brilliantly by Malkovich
>not laughing and loving Brad Pitt's lovable but woefully dim physical trainer Chad
>not being impressed by typically dour George Clooney willingly making himself look like a chauvanistic doofus with Harry Pfarrer
You are out of your element, faggot.

Best: Pulp Fiction
Runner-Up: Inglorious Basterds

Overrated: Django Unchained
Underrated: The Hateful Eight

Second Worst: Resevoir Dogs
Worst: Django Unchained, by miles

>the score is used relentlessly
You say that like it's a bad thing. The score is one of the best parts of the film.
>Halloween 3 is better in every way.
Halloween 3 is extremely underrated but it's nowhere near as great as Halloween.

rebuttal

Best: Waking Life
Runner Up: Boyhood
Overrated: Dazed and Confused (still god-tier)
Underrated: SubUrbia
Worst: Me and Orson Welles

>Underrated: SubUrbia
I'm rewatching this movie now. It's totally not a Linklater movie in terms of attitude and philosophy but it's really good. Steve Zahn and Nicky Katt are fantastic

Best: The Thing
Runner Up: Halloween

Overrated: Dark Star
Underrated: Christine

Second Worst: Ghosts of Mars
Worst: The Ward

>There's almost no satire, they basically said that USA comits crimes and hide them. Bunch of movies done that, but much better
>General alcoholic guy
>The character was good, but the others lacked so much charisma, so the interactions were never really good
>Clooney always looks dumb in Coen's movies, he even said that in a interview. And him playing a different character doesn't make the character itself interesting.

The characters are so dumb that they fell bland and not charismatic (Pitt's an exception in this movie), the satire is really poor and done lots of times and much better. Coens have much better movies, this one really sucks.

Best: The Rock
Runner Up: Pain & Gain

Overrated: Bad Boys II

Overrated: A Fistful of Dollars (but it's a great movie)
Underrated: Duck, You Sucker!

Second Worst: For a Few Dollars More (but it's a great movie)
Worst: A Fistful of Dollars (but it's a great movie)

Every Leone movie I've seen has been pure gold. I've heard The Colossus of Rhodes is mediocre but I haven't seen it.

Here's how I rank his filmography:

The Good, the Bad and The Ugly > Once Upon a Time in America > Duck, You Sucker! > Once Upon a Time in the West > For a Few Dollars More > A Fistful of Dollars

Best: Dead Ringers
Runner up: Eastern Promises

Overrated: The Fly
Underrated: Crash

Second worst: Cosmopolis
Worst: eXistenZ

It still amazes me that the dumb asshole had gotten to the top of Hollywood and then destroyed himself. Maybe studio pressure lead to him becoming a mess during F4nt4stic Four's production but him blaming everything on the studio and his other public meltdowns were inexcusably retarded and guaranteed he'll never ever work on another major studio film.

Best: The Sopranos S6E18 "Kennedy and Heidi"
Runner up: The Sopranos S6E20 "The Blue Comet"

Overrated: Mad Men S1E01 "Pilot"
Underrated: The Sopranos S6E09 "The Ride"

Second worst: Palookaville
Worst: Terminator Genisys

Top kek

>Underrated: Crash
but crash was hamfisted oscar bait bullshit

Agreed with pretty much everything. I don't like Transformers 2, not sure it's as bad as everyone says it is. I might switch out runner up for Transformers though.

That's a different Crash, you retard. Cronenberg's Crash came out in 1996 and was an extremely sexual arthouse film that got an NC-17 rating.

>Second worst: Cosmopolis
Pleb

...

>Underrated: The Sopranos S6E09 "The Ride"
my nigger. I loved that episode
>Christopher's "Dolphin" scene
>Paulie manning up and watching TV with his ma
>W-w-we're with the Vipers!

Hell yeah brother. Rethinking my "overrated" choice though, should probably be a GoT episode

It should DEFINITELY be a GoT episode. That show is fucking trash compared to Mad Men.

Agreed fully

Yeah everyone on Sup Forums likes that episode good work.

His worst is Cosmopolis then Map to the Stars and A Dangerous Method.

>Overrated: Hail, Ceaser!
>Underrated: The Hudsucker Proxy

Couldn't agree more.

agreed, i could have tolerated it ore without that fucking kid

also To The Wonder is the only film of his I havent seen, should I remedy this soon? I've enjoyed everything else

best: videodrome
runner up: dead ringers

overrated: the fly
underrated: maps to the stars

2nd worst: a history of violence
worst: cosmopolis

not the guy you're responding to, but to the wonder hit me the hardest out of all of his movies.

i don't know if i would say its his best or anything, but it pisses me off that the movie gets shit from pleb reviewers amd audiences who are upset that the movie makes them sad and paradoxically hate that malick "keeps doing the same thing" yet also were clearly disappointed that to the wonder didn't have the same scope/scale as ttol and was a bit more contained.

i would recommend it for sure. also, olga a cute. A CUTE!
