fixed:
>scripting in anything other that Python

Potato Potato.
Worrying yourself with stupid details like that is and backwards.
You're not a true programmer unless you can write out perfectly functional binary code.
But wait, you're not a true binary programmer unless you understand the details of every electrical signal that makes up your code. In fact, you shouldn't even be doing it with a keyboard. A true programmer should magnetize a hard disk by hand.

You could go on forever with that no true scottsman shit.

made a crawler in python....
made a crawler in node.js....

guess which one wuz betteerrr....

>non-programmer here
What is a crawler and what is a node.js?

Python seems to have trouble calculating (4/3)/1.5 using its Decimal type. Making the the Decimal type inaccurate. The only reason to use it is for accuracy. This ended up breaking one of my programs, so I had to migrate to another language.

what is google?

It's just not the same as having someone explain it to you.
And "crawler" is pretty vague.
And you're a Jew normie shill if you still use Google for searches.

numpy

It will never be as fast as C.

>programming in python
Kill yourself

I'm not a faggot?
Is there still the python 2 vs 3 bullshit?
laughable

Haven't gotten to it yet in my bootcamp

stackoverflow.com/questions/20354423/clarification-on-the-decimal-type-in-python

1f u rlly th1nk ur brogramming n pyth0n wll git u newhere.... HA. learn assembly, then open ur mouth.
- Out

This looks like what the Gameshark for my N64 did

It's an elegant solution, much better than any python program could do, of calculating a n-th fibonacci number

Yes, and it even infects other programming ecosystems. The most popular NodeJS hashing package on npm (bcrypt) depends on Python 2.7, but Python 3.6 just released dec 3016

>Python cant even #86&*print14x
i don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Good luck writing a driver...

bruh I had a gameshark when I was 11 what the tits are you going on about?

Seriously I want to start learning and language and am leaning towards Python

Should I?

god programming is gay I hope for the day I have a job unrelated to it and anything IT at all

Python doesn't work on mac thats why

how's it feel to be a faggot?

It's good for sciencey types that don't have the time for other languages.

How's it feel to leave out 83% of computer users

I'll just leave this here

83% are on Mac? Did you get that statistic from Steve Bannon?

HMmm your facts are a bit wrong

It's not the worst language by far.

Try it, a functional language like Go, and a strongly typed OOP language like C# and see what you like best.

Pro tip: C# is the clear winner.

duckduckgo is where its at

I looked at this yesterday and it looks sexy and hell...

...

fuck were going to be waiting a long time

This language good for engineers? I'm electrical and want to pick something up

Is it used for automation?

>all these hipsters fags

lets be honest here C# is best

Dude so my distributed software class uses C# its fucking amazing I had no idea

says the guy programming in a language that hasn't been updated since before the iPhone came out in 2001

Microsoft shills detected.

Using anything but java in 2017 you're a faggot.

You should be good learning python or ruby. Were switching to that soon at my university

I can recommend some good places for tutorials if you want. let me know how new you are to programming

learn Ladder

don't even bother with Ruby or Python or any of that dumb shit

Java is dead.

Guise, what should I learn if I wanna make vidya games?

i hear you but for real I doubted it cause its microsoft (im a mac guy). I had two classes one in java and one in C# (plus some other classes but that doesnt matter right now) this semester. they were taught by the same teacher and he happened to give the same HW but to be programmed in two different languags. C# was fucking awesome I wrote it so much quicker and I've been programming for years in python, C++ and java

At school we are forced to code with visual studio

xD I just made a DDoS script!

Hm

I minored in computer science and have basic knowledge of Java/C++

It never really clicked for me you know? Unless all programming is having another screen with google open looking up the code you're supposed to be working on

C++

Thats how I felt. I use IntelliJ and C-lion

When they open source .net framework, provide free tiers of VS2015, and Azure hosting, then acquire and make Xamarin free... they're not "the man" anymore...

That would be apple, who hasn't put out a decent MacBook in 5 years, but still has the "if you want to make native iOS apps, buy a Mac or fuck off" slogan

cool well then you would be fine just starting out on a site like tutorialspoint if you did that and learn python the hard way you could be coding pretty easily in a week. python is really easy to learn compared to those two

>we are forced to use the greatest IDE in human history

wow that's a really sad day for you

>made in node.js
>made in javascript

Ftfy

No those are the right facts. Python is a dead language since they never updated it to work on a mac

>greatest IDE if you have the time and space to download 20 GB of worthless garbage.

Being this gay...

developers.slashdot.org/story/15/08/23/0357241/the-top-10-programming-languages-on-github-over-time

>Not using vim in 2017

I don't even like IDE's, but Visual Studio is about as perfect as it gets.

Word man. Hard to believe it's that easy

My cousin is a big time stock trader for Goldman Sachs and he was telling me stock brokers that know Python are in huge demand right now. Like double the salary of others

UE C++
Unity C#

AIDS is pretty popular too. What's your point?

I've heard that. If you can learn how to use an API you could probably build a stocks app. You would need an impressive computer to do the trading algorithms those guys write tho

>stackoverflow.com/questions/20354423/clarification-on-the-decimal-type-in-python
Am I doing something wrong?

Mac user base is a fraction of win pcs. You are full of shit if you think a language is dead if it's not mac supported.

My point is that java is the best language ever invented. Python is aids.

>Elegant
Fuck you

because if you want your code to run fast you will use C/C++ or Fortran.. Pro Tip: *every* code worth a shit that runs on supercomputers are written in C/C++ and/or Fortran

Java is for script kiddies and wannabe HAXORZ. it's an ok language for scripting minor widgets but that's about it.

Thought they were motherless links

...

Those numbers are all time numbers. that is no longer the case. Macs took over the pc in 1997. Name one website that uses python? Can you name even a single website?
Protip you can't

I use duckduckgo regularly, I hate google for the way it celebrates socialism/activism/activists/sjw bullshit. But, it's still better than duckduckgo.

>being a shameless hipster homosexual

I've got news for you, kiddo:

Programming isn't cool anymore. It's not the 2010s anymore.

If you don't mind my ignorance, what makes some languages superior to others

For that matter, if one is regarded as the best, why isn't it used across all platforms?

Also, all of you programmers in this thread, bless you. My uni posts stats every year about average salary for new grads and shit. Last year the computer scientists average a starting salary of $78,000. Fucking nice.

I mean yeah its better but duckduckgo gets the job done pretty well compared to yahoo or bing so its a good alternative with the bonus of avoiding google

not to mention....python works on a mac just fine.

>developers.slashdot.org/story/15/08/23/0357241/the-top-10-programming-languages-on-github-over-time

top 10 programming languages on GitHub today: 1. JavaScript 2. Java 3. Ruby 4. PHP 5. Python 6. CSS 7. C++ 8. C# 9. C 10. HTML

Your point? Java is the best actual language.

>isn't cool anymore
it's like it is the present, user.

seriously, that's true. I can't wait until duckduckgo gets its maps in order, and better image search jeebus. I stick with it as best I can, but fuuuuuuck.

>they're not "the man" anymore...
Because trying to quietly install a new NSA backdoor OS on my machine without my consent is so trustworthy and transparent, amirite?

Becuase some languages do stuff really well.
Python is easy to learn
C is the most powerfull but a pain to work with
Java is inbetween both of those
php is just for the web

I take a class on that question. we basically learn how to use a bunch of languages together to get the best of everything.

I posted it, but I'm not him. I'm anonymous.

Wait ruby is better than python again? why is that i thought python had more support? I like ruby just a bit better

>muh boogeyman

ITT: Spaghetti-Code enthusiasts.
inb4: what weebs

2017?

1 being in the 10s spot?

Still the 2010s until the 2020s start in the year 2020.

Biology major here with minor in geography. I use ArcGIS software a lot, which runs on python. So if you wanna make maps, learn python. Just my input on the uses of python.

Because when I hit the space bar an extra time, my program still fucking works.

I like to tell myself I'm sticking it to the man by using duckduckgo, but when their results suck I usually end up checking Google anyway and getting the results I want. Sad times.

>Wait ruby is better than python again?

It doesn't say which one is better. It's easy to make that mistake. It's ones on github, or downloaded the most.

I can guarantee 98% of the people who have replied in this thread have never programmed and are just spouting memes from Sup Forums or Reddit

>number of Ruby and Python jobs: 0

No response? None? Fricken PC-bro over here

Are you me? that's EXACTLY what I do.
