My dad always had Grateful Dead and Frank Zappa playing. My mom in contrast always had Yes and Rush playing. Growing up I was attracted to Devo, Oingo Boingo, Talking Heads and other big New Wave bands. Eventually I got into electronic music like Kraftwerk and Aphex Twin, eventually Boards of Canada, then I got into prog like King Crimson, Yes again, Jethro Tull, etc.
It's been maybe 8 years since I discovered King Crimson

My taste as a kid was basically what my older sister listened to for a while. When I was 11 I would have been into UK Garage because it had gotten really big by then, a few years later my sister went through her metal phase and so did I. I carried on listening to metal after that and then ended up listening to various electronic shit and basically stopped listening to Metal now.
Still really like UKG though.
