Who else regrets going to university?

who else regrets going to university?

Yep.

Nevar. All the shite still is worth it, having a degree stil means receiving a better pay, unseen the experience in your field

why u regret user?

Did you not learn anything, OP?

What was your major?

I couldn't even get in my field, I clean things in a factory.

>Did you not learn anything, OP?
plenty,
nothing I can really do anything with unless I actually had a job doing those things
>What was your major?
electrical engineering.

what country OP?

Going to MMU will make you want to kill yourself

Yes and no.

I learned a lot of cool shit, some applicable, learned to think critically and evaluate information properly, and now im a tradesman and make a shit tonne of money anyway.

Didn't go to uni

Worked in 2 roles where 95% of people are uni educated.

Currently on $105k p/a but that's about my ceiling in this industry.

Was nice to avoid the uni feed but it took a few years longer to get here without the peice of paper.

I am going there, what course did you take?

*fees

>who else regrets going to university?
It didn't help my career at all, but at least I learned a thing or two for my time. It didn't really hurt to go.

I went to uni, complete waste of time but I don't regret it

United States
Texas
UT system

and before you ask
>how could you not find a professional job with an EE degree?
I dont fucking know user, I've been confused about this situation as everyone else who I talk to,
maybe I monumentally fucked up somewhere along the line but if I did the university career center never told me, or maybe god hates me, who knows.

Why do some people say that it's a waste of time? I'm 21 and still considering going there

did you not even check what jobs that could be useful in befor going for it?

>maybe god hates me
I've got news for you, user...

I do, I dropped out after doing an internship and seeing these fat desk jockeys that worked 12 hours a day. I went back to construction and 17 years later I am more than satisfied with my life.

>Why do some people say that it's a waste of time?
Because a lot of people do waste their time. They get a bullshit degree thinking it's some kind of magic ticket. Or they pump and dump, not actually learning much, barely passing because they're just too stupid.

Sadly, universities are full of idiots these days.

IT, biggest waste of time ever I've given up with getting into an IT career because it taught me absolutely fuck all about IT.

I really just did what I was told , what my father told me to do, what my professors told me to do.
thinking everyone telling me about all the opportunities an engineering degree would open up did so in good faith.

>I really just did what I was told , what my father told me to do
Sounds like you should've just gone into the military.

I actually don't think I could do it though.. it looks so tough, and not because of lack of intelligence, it just seems all too much

But better have gone there just to make sure you get some good job or no?

I regret not going. I regret so much not going for a degree in electrical engineering.

There is a large electrical manufacturing company in my town and it wasn't until i ended up working there as a simple office drone that i realised how much i could have accomplished with that degree. They are always looking for people with electrical engineering degrees; i could've named my price but instead i'm a lowly office drone with too much work, too much stress, not enough pay and a boss who actively looks for excuses to berate us, just any fucking excuse to talk to us like pieces of shit.

Do college people remember any useful stuff a few years after graduation,or is it like highschool?

I am only able to learn things I like,so education was always difficult for me.

>it looks so tough
If you're smart, it's not tough at all; just tedious.

>But better have gone there just to make sure you get some good job or no?
I'd say that depends on you. I don't know anything about you, so I have no idea if it's a good idea for you.

>I don't know anything about you
how about I tell you?

I went, got a degree in the IT field, but most places I found place more on certifications, or real world experience. I have an IT job though, 4 years now, went fast through the ranks, and I do think the degree helps with salary and over those with out one.

Not sure if you're just trying to be edgy here, but isn't it a lot of work? I think I would have ansiety attacks everyday in exams seasons
All the deadlines and stupid bullshit you have to put an effort into

I majored in comp sci and minored in biology. I've never done programming as a job or anything comp sci related, so I remember fuckall about comp sci, but bio was interesting and I remember a lot of it.

im going to MMU this year too, doing philosophy, what about you user?

>Not sure if you're just trying to be edgy here, but isn't it a lot of work?
Yes. That's why I said it's tedious. Writing papers takes time, no matter how smart you are.

>I think I would have ansiety attacks everyday in exams seasons
Then perhaps you shouldn't go to college.

>All the deadlines and stupid bullshit you have to put an effort into
What job do you have where there's no deadlines and stupid bullshit?

One where you actually work like a human being

I stand near a road and press this little number counting device every time I see a car pass by.

>One where you actually work like a human being
?

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Are you in the porn industry?

Here's your answer Aren't we all afraid after all? What is a real job? Getting the fuck out actually.

>Aren't we all afraid after all?
Afraid of what?

>What is a real job?
Something that gets you paid.

>Getting the fuck out actually.
You lost me there.

...

>Afraid of what?

Studying communication, fucking worth it.

I am really enjoying my college experience so far. Currently just here for ROTC and that career path.

I tell people how I feel all the time.

That's what those assholes get for asking in the first place.

>Studying communication, fucking worth it.

>teeth coming out of the skull
end yourself

ITT: Idiot millennials that think college will magically solve their problems.

this actually makes me feel better because I'm super late for college and I really don't wanna go there

I don't regret going as I had a great time there, however I do wish I was less naive. Getting a job after was much more difficult than I imagined. Graduate jobs wouldn't take me due to no experience (still pisses me off since you know, entry level graduate job...), but minimum wage jobs wouldn't take me either because I was deemed too qualified and they thought I would leave as soon as something else came along.

It's very difficult. In hindsight I wish I would have completed a technical apprenticeship.

it will always be fun

but its only worthwhile if you do something worthwhile e.g. not philosophy

It's like high school if you don't use it. I did a genetics degree and now work in forensics. I remember only very basic genetics. All the cool stuff I learned (like medical genetics, cancer genetics, etc) is now gone from my brain as it never got used. I only graduated in 2015 too.

this user gets it

So what should I consider when thinking about going to college or not?

If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't go.

We recently had a hiring board. The guy with the Master's was dumb as fuck. He was the only one that didn't get hired.

Why's that?
Thinking carefully about it being a waste or time or not makes means I shouldn't even consider after all?

>Why's that?
Because the answers to what you should consider are obvious:
Why are you thinking of going?
How are you going to pay for it?
What's the market like for the major you're looking at?
Are you smart enough to even get something out of going?

Did you not think of these already?

...

Never really, you're too smart
