Is it possible to have a serious discussion about this movie without shitposting?
I just saw it and personally i think that the whole "female" controversy has been grossly exagerated on both sides. The characters are so badly written and so generic that it doesn't really matter if they were male or female, the movie would suck anyway. The dialogues are awful, the jokes either fall flat or are Adam Sandler lowebrow level, the acting is... Well, i wouldn't call it "acting", more like OVERacting. The special effects are mediocre at best and the pacing all over the place. Truly a huge missed opportunity and one of the worst movies i have ever seen, luckily i didn't ahve to pay for the ticket!

I disagree OP.
Just look a Bridesmaid as an example of success.
Bridesmaid worked well because it was raunchy and was women improving a female role.
It is ten times easier to improv a role you are familiar with. Just like a non native speaker would need years of practice to sound native, so too would it be really difficult for a male to play a female role and vice versa.

The first ghostbusters worked because it was approached as a self-insert movie.
GB worked because it was the male nerd, adult fantasy of the 80's where he could hang out with his buds, catch ghost and save the world despite not being a chad or being super hunky.

The new GB is shit because it doesn't understand that the old GB was a self insert with some young audience appeal. The new gb acts does not have any self insert appeal outside of generically "i'm a girl and want to be a ghostbuster."
I may be wrong but I just don't see the 4 main actors portraying a female self insert good at all. Instead of building character they constantly spit out shitty lines which makes it impossible to relate to them.

Still, maybe women found them incredible relatable but nonetheless they wouldn't find the idea of being a ghostbuster cool. Bridesmaid did well with older woman because they could relate to it. I don't see many woman finding the idea of hanging out with your girls while working a ghostbuster that appealing.

It has little to do with gender.

If Paul Feig had made this with four guys it would have been just as shit.

If I made a GB reboot I would mix it up, there would be 5 Ghostbusters; 3 guys, 2 women, and their characters would be each distinct and unique.

This movie would've been better with a different director and writer. They also could've kept the same female leads, and used less male bashing. They also should've made it a passing of the torch film to make older fans happy.

It bombed!
I don't care what the Sony spin machine says.

To be fair the passing of the torch would have been much better received by the fan base instead of Paul Feig shitting on the fan base and calling them misogynistic without proper reason

The movie was pretty bad OP, I just saw it and dear god I want the last 2 hours of my life back.

The characters are bland, gender has nothing to do with. Almost every line is supposed to be a gag or make the characters sound smart, however half the time there is rarely context for their actions or what they do.

Everyone in their world, except the Ghostbusers are either idiots or assholes.

I am still scratching my head at the logic used to make Rowan the main villain and where he even received the ideas for his grand scheme, and those levels of omnipotent powers

>box office to date: $65 million
>budget (not including marketing): $144 million
It doesn't matter what anyone says. Or maybe math is a sexist shitlord too.

Also it's worth mentioning they ran an ad for nearly every commercial break of the NBA Finals. Marketing pushes the budget well over $500 million.

>MIKE HAT

My sister saw it today, and I might see it next week with my entire family.
She loved it and said that Leslie Jones' character wasn't stereotypical, but my sister isn't the most aware when it comes to film.
I hated the original movie so I'd like to see how this compares.

>I hated the original movie
Then let me start by saying welcome to Earth, although your sense of humor doesn't match that of the human race I am sure we will find plenty of other common ground.

okay.

Not necessarily "Male" nerd fantasy. A lot of women hold the '84 film in high regard, too, and were perfectly capable of relating to the characters despite what feminists tell them their limitations at relating to characters might be.

I saw it with some anons in a stream, and good lord is it a fucking mess in every sense.

The film isn't even technically competent, let alone actually effective as a comedy/action/whatever it was trying to be.

I'm not even talking about the sub par CGI, although boy was it, but rather things like the editing. There are several cuts in this movie that seem to cut scenes in half with no transition.

For example
>Ghostbusters in a scene with the mayor
>Scene "ends" with some nonconclusive dialogue
>Randomly cut to a backalley where the Ghostbusters then summarize what just happened a scene ago like a shitty cartoon

>A lot of women hold the '84 film in high regard, too
I would hope that's not true seeing as how misogynistic it is.

It's the idea of being an outcast, but finding other outcasts to team up with to pursue your interests and perhaps save the world. Nerd girls resonate with that concept as much as nerd guys do.

Yeah, but there are probably several movies that adapt that concept way better.
Ghostbusters has a lot of flaws.

Wuh?

That movie wasn't sexist at all, user. Most of the women were intelligent and kind of closer to earth than the Ghostbusters. Granted, Ripley got possessed, but is that her fault?

Janine wasn't a retarded bimbo like Thor is in GB2k16.

In fact, every man in GB2k16 is a fucking retard/bumbler/idiot/hateful misogynist.

This movie isn't just incompetent, it's actively mean spirited and bitter.

The occult bend helps it out.

>It's actively mean-spirited
If that scene where the girls blast someone's moped for no reason is any indication, that's for sure.

>That 2-second Ozzy Cameo

That shit was straight out of Meet the Spartans

>Most of the women were intelligent
Where? Janine wasn't an idiot, but she wasn't particularly gifted, she just looked like a nerd.
Dana didn't have a personality. There's also Ray the instance of Ray calling Gozer a bitch, and Gozer appearing in a bodysuit.
The biggest fault of the original movie was to include any type of romance, it eclipses the main conflict in both movies, but especially the first one.

>Janine wasn't an idiot, but she wasn't particularly gifted
You mean she was a normal woman?

>There's also Ray the instance of Ray calling Gozer a bitch
Calling someone a bitch is misogynistic?

Gozer was technically a God beyond the concept of gender. They also didn't shoot Gozer in the dick.

As for Janine and Dana, Janine got an expanded role in the cartoon series and Dana got a bigger role on Movie 2.

haha, daddy wanted a son

Feig missed the point of the original Ghostbusters' movie.

Everyone in movie plays the situation they are in straight. Very little awareness and then, it is tongue in cheek.

Feig made almost a parody of Ghostbusters.

>Played it straight.

To an extent. Half of the Ghostbusters wrote the movie. They were just better actors.

>Calling someone a bitch is misogynistic?
Yeah, it is. I still say it, but it's inherently misogynistic.
And Ray calling Gozer a bitch and Gozer being in that bodysuit only rub me the wrong way because they originally were going to cast Paul Reubens, and I know Paul Reubens Gozer wouldn't have been called a bitch or been put in an almost see through body suit.

Janine was just there, she wasn't positive or negative.
And I do agree that Dana was handled much better in the sequel, but the starting off point was complete shit.
Peter Venkman is a womanizer into young big titted blondes, I'm supposed to believe he's gonna fall for Sigourney Weaver at first sight?
Dana doesn't even like him. She's very annoyed by Venkman in the beginning, but then she suddenly is in love with him in the sequel. Fuck off-screen development.

The original Ghostbusters is racist too.

What A shock... A movie about dick jokes failed because they didn't have the balls to write a movie about clever dicks jokes and vagina reference from female characters

I think only when Wiggs character is touch the device housing the first ghost they caught at the Ozzy show they said something to the effect of it makes me feel good and warm inside and at least to me the device had a phallic shape to it.

It's true, this movie has no dick.

okay.

The only good thing about this trainwreck is the fact that TheBoogie drew porn of the "logo with tits" concept they showed in the movie, and the fact that the game sequel has 2 semen demons.

I think the biggest appeal was despite them having cool gadgets and saving the world, they still were just a bunch of pest exterminators at the end of the day.

The new one tries to hard to make them out as actual superheroes. Even having the two leads explicitly going super saiyan.

Yeah let's shoot the ghost in the dick.
The naked ghost has no dick?
The reality is that this hobby level complaint-feminism is tolerated and coddled by neutered "men" like Feig and they can only target that same level of man whereas they are dependent on the original movie (and the men involved while actually lusting after and accepting an alpha male like Hempsworth.

Ok, pretty poorly cobbled together rant but you get what I mean. Sure shoot the guy in the dick but at least have the guts to show the dick.

Good:
>Kristen Wiig
>Retarded Thor
>The main antagonist being human
>Bill Murray
>Melee Ghostbuster weapons
>The scene with the graffiti artist forming the logo

Bad:
>The blonde one was annoying
>Its a flatout reboot; no possibility of it being a sequel
>The scene where the ghost was released; this kills the Murray
>The trailers and everything regarding the media
>The technology doesn't feel like its theres
>Not as creative as the original
>Low brow humor
>It doesn't need to exist
>We could have gotten Ghostbusters III if it weren't for Amy Pascal.

I think the OG GB is fine, never was a huge fan, but it's fun to watch now and then.

This new GB is interesting because I feel like it's a true Labor of Hate. It really seems to inverse all the tropes of the first to such a degree that I believe Feig wants to troll all of the haters.

It's the kind of thing that, well, if the movie made you upset at all, then, that means you lost. It's fascinating in that regard.

Glad I didn't lose but I guess it's just the kind of game that never interested me in the first place.

>Dana didn't have a personality.
I've never met a classically trained musician that had a personality so that's not much of a critique.

I watched some parts of it. I can't believe this movie was even seriously made by a major studio. The editing and writing are straight out of some B-tier straight to video schlock. It boggles my mind that some people not only say that it wasn't that bad, but good even.

>Feig made almost a parody of Ghostbusters.

A parody of Ghostbusters and a ton of other movies too. It's so filled to the brim with references to other things, it might as well be Scary Movie: Ghostbusters Edition

This.

The Watch had 4 guys fighting aliens and it sucked.

Evolution sucked as well and that was directed by the guy who did Ghostbusters

GB2K16 would have sucked even if it had men in it. Paul Feig sucks as a filmmaker however because he absolutely can not put aside his misandry and distain for his own gender in anything he writes.

I've said before I liked Bridesmaids but that's entirely due to the cast and Wiig's script and that she was able to write herself as playing a pathetic piece of shit who was responsible for all of her own problems and the best most upstanding character in the movie was Chris O'dowd.

If Feig hadve written Bridesmaids there would be none of what made the movie real and the whole "it's just poop jokes" meme would have actually been true instead of an overstatement of a single 5 minute scene in a 2hr movie.

I find that there's nothing original in ANY film Paul Feig has written. Every storyline seems to be lifted from something else.

Not having China as a market sucks for Sony. I saw the movie 4 times...the first time was a midnight showing with about a dozen people - this had more to do with Cinemark advertising it at a different theater and than changing it to a different venue a day before the movie opened. Everyone there was a fan (not a Ghosthead) and had limited info coming into the movie (whereas I had followed it intensely). Because I am crazy like that, I asked around for opinions afterwards. Consensus was it was good but not great. Truth be told, I felt like the only person laughing.

I then went Friday morning to 3d at 11am with my kids (boy age 8, girl age 6). The only other people there where moms with kids similar in age to mine. My son laughed through the whole movie. My daughter sat through the whole movie, which is a first for her. They have asked every day since to go again. The kids in the theater that time seemed to enjoy it (no crying, getting up, etc).

For the third showing, I was invited to help do a promo even with a Ghostbusters group. It was a huge and fancy Imax theather - early evening showing. About 1/3 of the theater was full and most people where there because they knew the GB group. People, including kids laughed throughout. There were some really young kids there too. Out of the GB group, everyone loved it.

Then, I went on Tuesday with my bro-in-law who was VERY anti reboot. There were about 30 people, mostly middle aged. When they laughed at the trailers for Bridgette Jones and some movie about a woman singing, I thought there was the distinct possibility that people would walk out of GB because the humor wasn't near the same. I was pleasantly surprised as people laughed through the whole movie.

All-in-all the idea that this movie is a hit and people who don't enjoy the movie are just butthurt virgin trolls.

What? I have never watched any movie in the theatre four times no matter how good I thought it was

>All-in-all the idea that this movie is a hit and people who don't enjoy the movie are just butthurt virgin trolls.
>all-in-all the idea...

Are you going to finish that thought or did you need to go tuck your wife's kids into bed?

Quick question, do you happen to chuckle every time you fart? because that's what this movie is. A fart.

>it's mildly entertaining to people who laugh at Gilligan's Island and Good Times

You're not making a very good defense against the claims that it's stilted, heavily reliant on unfunny improv/CGI action, the plot make almost no sense and is horribly rushed, and le fart joeks

10 minutes in

queef joke

walked out of theatre

Well Feig has deeply resented that his dad was always working and the bullies who picked on him for being such a Beta.

Part of his motivation in this movie is payback. It's his open animosity towards men and the concept of masculinity.

I mean look at this beta cuck. No one wears a bowler derby.

Venkman was the one who called Gozer a bitch

>I'm supposed to believe he's gonna fall for Sigourney Weaver at first sight?
>Dana doesn't even like him.

I think Part of Peter's motivation was BECAUSE she didn't like him. It's natural to want what you can't have.

max pls

>your wife's kids

Wouldn't that make them his kids too?

spotted the outsider

>reddit

...

Well it says "Your wife's children" So logic would dictate that being married to her would make them your children as well.

>logic
whatever gets your through the day

Ever hear of adoption?

The movie is not funny, plain and simple. There's rarely anything feminine about the characters and concepts in the movie anyway, it's not like this is some feminist movie making statements about modern society. The only reason the cast is all female is because Feig wanted it to be and Sony thought they could use an all female cast for marketing purposes. This shit is so blatantly stupid.

The sheer volume of so much just going right over your head is going to collapse the universe. Please stop.

Why are people so focused on the all-female casting

So much else wrong with the movie
>No deadpan humor

>No character faults
Mary-sue as fuck:
>Not-Egon isn't socially crippled
>Not-Venkman isn't an asshole
whyyy

Male-bimbo secretary out of nowhere
what the fuck
The original secretary was competent AND average looking

Stop looking at things logically and rationally? Sorry. That's never going to happen.

Ao youre saying that it's absolutely impossible for two white people to be raising two black children unless the woman fucked a black guy? Sorry to pop your little bubble of memes, but white people HAVE adopted black children. And adopted children or even your wife's children from a previous marriage are by definition YOUR children as well.

If anything, maybe you should start trying to look at things through the eyes of logic.

No, I quite get what youre TRYING to convey.

...

I found Janine rather sexy, but that was due to understatement. Those eyes and that voice

Its a joke
No one needs a diatribe.

>Mary-sue as fuck:
>Not-Egon isn't socially crippled

Also: Asspulls new equipment and upgrades were over the top

Look man I don't know who's trolling who, but 7.8/10 if you were. Reasonably believable retardation.

Congrats you're now caught up with 2014+2

Im simply explaining my reasonings

Besides, jokes are supposed to be funny. That wasn't.

I found it to be underwhelming even though I'm not that big a fan of the old movies to begin with.
- tried too hard in portraying Mckinnon's character as being the quirky crazy inventor type
- some of the jokes were a little too low brow to my liking
- they overdid Hemsworth's character; "never go full retard"
- too bloody long; it really didn't need almost 2 hours of run time. It doesn't help that it also suffer from ending fatigue with all the extended credit scenes ("but wait, there's more!") that didn't really have any significant punchline - just... scenes.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of Feig's humour, but the movie really, really, REALLY need to learn the concept of subtlety. The ending scene with LesliƩ character asking them to go to the rooftop to look at the building was one of the things that really underlined that lack of subtlety and also came across as being rather arrogant.

If you are raising them, then they ARE your children as well. And just because a pair of white people are raising black children, that doesn't automatically mean that cuckoldry is at work.

You people are way, WAY too obsessed with this whole cuckoldry thing.

>>Congrats you're now caught up with 2014+2

Why not just say 2016?

>That voice
The intentional stereotype slightly whiny "I'm not paid enough" voice?

>>Why not just say 2016?

I'm bumping your score to an 7.9/10

>Why not just say 2016?
Not sure if elaborate troll pretending to be new or a genuine newfag being persistent...

They could have adapted Extreme Ghostbusters and call it a day

Why the fuck did they swap the secretary for Thor.

Only Cumberbatch in JJ's rip of Khan was worse pandering than this.

>Extreme Ghostbusters
>cholo Ghostbuster
>hadicapable cripple Ghostbuster
>grunge cover of Ghostbusters theme

hahaha no you have terrible taste and should probably never post here again.

>I saw it with some anons in a stream
Could you help a pleb with this. I'd like to watch movies with people online.

Sorry, it's over. Be earlier next time.

can I still know which online service allows for this?

While I despised Garrett, Eduardo wasn't that bad. He was more of a slacker than a cholo. Roland and Kylie were genuinely good characters.

Yes that grunge cover was bad, but overall the stories were pretty good for kidvid of the late 90s.

At least XGB was an extension of GB Lore, not a replacement. Yes, the presence of Peter, Ray and Winston would have made the show better. But warts and all XGB was still fairly decent and a much better premise than GB2016

Well, the twist is that Big Female Empowerment flick is totally sterile.
In on itself it is 6/10. Barely watchable, but watchable.
Fieg, though, should give his cock for adoption and fuck off. Same goes for every Sony exec who though that gender war is a good damage control.

>Even having the two leads explicitly going super saiyan
haven't seen it, care to elaborate?

Faggot, people here were whining about the all female cast only when it was first announced, then the trailer came out and everyone realized this movie was going to be shit and started having legitimate complaints. Don't fall for the feminist bullshit that people hated the movie from the start because ghostbusters were women.

Pleb here, can you explain how it works? Judging from these numbers there's no way ghostbusters is even gonna make 200 mil, but then Mad Max Fury Road had similar sales but ran for 4 months and managed to make a profit. Can ghostbusters end up making 400 mil in this way too?

Wiig and McCarty go through a ghost portal and when they're pulled back in they have white hair, because.

>flopbusters
Movie is really bad, sadly. Probably the worst remake that I have never seen.

>Can ghostbusters end up making 400 mil in this way too?

No, because people actually liked Fury Road.

>Peter Venkman is a womanizer into young big titted blondes, I'm supposed to believe he's gonna fall for Sigourney Weaver at first sight?

Venkman fucks what he can get through his charlatanery. He hit on Janine too, if you remember. She just outright shot him down. He had nothing to say to that but tell her she has googly eyes. He retracted that statement when she didn't react at all. Dana does react to him, though, so he persists.
She's in love with him in the sequel because a) he didn't take his chance with her when she was possessed, but actually showed a caring side. He and his buddies also rescued her from being turned into a dog. And Pete DOES care for people he loves. He's just a complete prick about it.

>evolution sucked
Kys

>Mad Max Fury Road had similar sales but ran for 4 months and managed to make a profit. Can ghostbusters end up making 400 mil in this way too?
Fury Road earned MORE international sales than local. This is because it is an action film and not a comedy. While GB2016 is on track to have massively less overseas sales than local.

>Looking for logic in memes

Now that's some autism

I love the original and I also love the sequel, even though it didn't bring anything too new to the table, it's still comfy af and I could watch these all the time. Kinda like BTTF.
Egon was my favorite Ghostbuster and when I heard that the cast of the new GB movie (back then it wasn't clear if it was going to be a remake) are all gonna be females I was disappointed. When I was a kid I wanted to be a Ghostbuster even though they didn't shove female Ghostbusters down my throat. I like men and I want well written male characters in my movies.
I'd still go lesbo for Kate McKinnon though, but I don't like her enough to go see this movie in theaters.

Gozer looked fucking amazing, Dana was great, Janine was likeable af.
At least none of them queefed.

She had a ton of personality, difference is it is shown and not talked about which might confuse simpler viewers.

pasta

Someone helped me out here- I've been a woman for all my life and I've neever queefed or heard someone queef. Is there something wrong with me?
