Hello Anons

Hello Anons,

For once, a writer quite accurately explains what is Sup Forums, and what it has come from, tto what it is today.

I'd like to know what Sup Forums thinks about it.

I personnally think he isn't quite spot-on, because his account of Sup Forums pretty much stays on what random is, and he doesn't account for all the gay/trap porn and loli threads that have taken over Sup Forums.

What you think Sup Forums?

I'm pretty sure the guy is right about how the outing of Sup Forums in 2011 pretty much ruined it. Which inevitably led to the Sup Forums we have now.

fuck off retard go back to 9gag

This thread is for adult anons, the fur trap threads are next door lil faggit.

It's been declining exponentially since 2008 tbh fam

What i'm wondering, and what's interesting, is hhow it descended into being an alt-right board.

I think it's mostly the fact that it's an anonymous board that, once Sup Forums was discovered as existant by the masses, it became a place for people to rant about nignogs chinks and spics without being scolded.

At first, when anonimity was just there because it was easy and straightforward, and promoted a general "fun" ,"for the lulz" type thing, Sup Forums was still good, but when more and more people started using it, the vocal minorities started thriving in anonimity, Sup Forums became a place for the people that felt ostracised by society for ranting and venting their worst innards.

I think today, it's basically both, some people still come to Sup Forums because it's fun, but a lot of people come for the fapping and insulting of minorities and SJW. What I'd like an article about is wether or not there's a correlation between being a trump-lovin SJW killer and being a gay fur trapper.

fuck i'm retarded for forgetting to share it

I gave up on expecting quality here years ago. Got populated by the next generation of fags and no one creates OC anymore.

the remaining question is, where is the new Sup Forums? Is there a similar site where we can find the fun-loving community Sup Forums used to be?

>inb4 "9gag faggot"

No. There are several chans out there and they all adopted the new hivemind except they have less posters/visitors.

I still come here for fun, just not Sup Forums.

where do you go on Sup Forums that is as much fun as random used to be?

Is this about that Dale Beran article?
I did try and start a thread on that but no fucker responded

Yeah, it's "the skeleton key" article, OP linked it in a later comment

Never mind, I see you answered that already, carry on

mostly Sup Forums but i look at other boards that are relevant to my interests. Sup Forums used to be my home, but its a shit fest of course.

I think the article reads fairly well right around until he starts talking about GamerGate, where it turns into his own uninformed hit piece.

I never liked Sup Forums, probably because I love video games and don't hate them

Hardly.

He claims authority on the subject through involvement nearly since its inception yet distances himself from others involved by characterizing them in any way that will reflect virtues upon him.

This blatant and clumsy attempt at feeling superior to others made for skewed facts and superficial retellings that only serve to reinforce opinions that his target readership already had, avoiding any possibility for depth or revelation.

You mean when he starts talking about how Sup Forums thought there was a massive conspiracy sporting an equal rights/feminist agenda? I don't know man, I remember being around at the time, and seeing some threads were anons seemed to be generally irate at the gaming industry for it.

agreed

No, I can't speak as to the accuracy of that, although the phrasing is ridiculous; feminist agenda is wholly different to promoting gender equality. But it's hard to see his descriptions of anons and GG types as anything other than ludicrous, ignorant character assassination.

>"user was going to get “SJW”s (ie. empowered women) out of their safe spaces — video games — the place from which they retreated from women by indulging in fantasies in which they were in control (that is to say, ones which demeaned women)."

I mean, seriously.

But that's the thing, you can't have an overview of Sup Forums, it's in it's very nature not to be measurable. So the author can only speak about it from what HE saw of it. And tbh he tries, and I do mean try, to stay away from judgement, he speaks about the measurable effect of Sup Forums, not about what's happening inside of/to it. I don't know about target readership, he isn't wrong on all accounts. Even someone from outside the "target readership" can agree about what people see through Sup Forums's eyeglass.

yeah, ffs that's got to be maybe 1% of the people on here.
Qualifying and generalising them as "user" is over the top. it's faggotry at it's best.

Sup Forums's eyeglass, nice touch.
Look at the faggots that spoke about Sup Forums on shia's camera.

>And tbh he tries, and I do mean try, to stay away from judgement

You're kidding, right?

His whole essay was: these bigoted, mysogynistic, delusional man children have had a big influence, just don't start thinking I'm like them!

this, it had a very clearly hostile tone throughout.

For the whole article this guy keeps talking about himself. He doesn't care about presenting Sup Forums. Sup Forums is just an excuse for him to preach his own opinion, which are quite off the mark, especially the whole trolls for trump thing.

If you fags want a good study look up MIT study of Sup Forums Sup Forums

>chanthropology

The beginning of the article is true. How it started, how it was.

But then he says that people voted for Trump as a joke. That's not true. People on here used to joke about everything - deaths, racism, and dumb shit. Now it's filled with actual racists, actual sick monsters who got off to deaths and gore.

Meh, the article accurately describes what codes Sup Forums uses internally, seems to me that if it had a title it'd be "How OP is a faggot, a newfag's guide to understanding Sup Forums" but that's not really what we're talking about here.

That's the real question, are we seeing actual racists? or are we seeing avant-gardist trolls, people that have taken trolling to such an extent that the line between troll and fascism has benn blurred?

Kek didn't notice that before

Have you been to Sup Forums for the past half year?

Regardless of whether they are trolls or racist or whatever - that's not the problem here - they are spreading a lot of false information. That's the real issue.

I voted for Trump and while I make racist jokes, I am not racist. Trump is in a fight against real problems in our society and while no one can predict exactly what we got, we knew we didnt want HRC.

There is nothing wrong with gore.
So does the media, but everyone has to think for themselves. Even Sup Forums tries to tell you flat earth theory is real whether they believe it themselves or not.

>or are we seeing avant-gardist trolls, people that have taken trolling to such an extent that the line between troll and fascism has benn blurred?

The answer is always both since those trolls have always been around.

There are also too many idiots in this world to discount their involvement in anything.

What? You think I'm an American? That English is my first language? That it matters to me how easily fools are encouraged into self-destruction, especially when they are fools in another country?

Combine that attitude with idiocy and you have a nice facade of sincerity. That'll draw in those that actually feel that way and then you have trolls, idiots going along with the trolls as if true that divide unto two groups: those that agree with what the troll presents and those appalled by it.

The vast majority of the media does not follow an agenda of purposefully misinforming the public for some goal. When they show false information it is a mistake. Sup Forums is spreading false information for Trumps benefit. They are always trying to misinform

Skimmed through the article.. seems like the dude didn't really want to investigate as much as he was butthurt about moot ignoring his ass

Load of 'I wish I was pretentious enough to be pretentious' crap

No, I haven't Sup Forums has never been my goto place. I mostly keep to Sup Forums and go to /hc/ if I need a fap. I go to Sup Forums when Sup Forums mentions a particular thread worth looking. But as someone with an education on analysing discourse, Sup Forums threads are the epitome of fallacious dialogue, there not even funny either.

Media has one goal: profit.

But it is true they would open themselves to litigation by purposely presenting falsehoods as truths.

They will say whatever gets clicks and views though, so long as they can cover their ass afterwards.

>there not even funny either.

So much this.

Here, there may be context, some content to perceive within the trolls, that joke inside that reveals to those who are careful that it is a troll, and an admirable one.

Sup Forums is to trolling and discourse what smashing watermelons is to comedy.

*they wouldn't

Fucking auto-correct.

Op here.

It's what I think, Sup Forums is both; too complex to be easily mesurable, so that we cannot truly differentiate between the types of people you listed, but is as well so simple that an outside onlooker could think he has a valid, truthful opinion about it. In a way, it's exactly what today's society is incapable of understanding. You just can't know what Sup Forums is, it's in it's nature. And that's so distressing to the media that they portray it as they do, and they make good butter on that so why change a winning strategy?

Some organizations are not for profit. Pro publica I believe is one of them.

Journalism is a supposed to champion truth and facts. It's unfortunate they have to sacrifice that sometimes for profit.

I agree entirely.

They were a force for vigilance and empowerment of the masses through up to date information.

I agree with this

>not your personal proof reader

sassy and opinionated, can't you find material elsewhere?

Many people here present outrageously exaggerated opinions in jest, it's has happened for years. The point is to illicit an emotional response based on how believably the opinion was presented.

Through the years, people who genuinely have such opinions have flocked to the site, perceiving they belong with like minded people. The trolls, realizing this, shift gears and encourage the genuine believers to more outrageous statements, and they feed off each other.

How fucking hard was it to write that instead of trying to look good compared to everyone else who's lurked this site? Not fucking hard at all.

I think some might be overlooking his larger point. That the culture that developed out of Sup Forums is based on as he put it, "Turning into the skid" of loserdom. Basically owning it and treating it as a point of pride. The adoption of the terms user and Deplorable describe similar acceptance, just in different frameworks.

It was a perfect storm of the exploitation of big data, meeting meme creation as political speech that promoted a sort of nouveau populist approach that was well suited to exploiting the people who voted largely based on personal bias. In all I think he described the larger picture quite well, even if is treatment of Sup Forums was perhaps less nuanced than some here would like to believe.

Embracing anonymity does not equate embracing mediocrity.

That culture existed and exists in many aspects of the site.

But he portrays the formation of boards as the consequence of mediocrity and defect. Like /fit/ was formed to teach people to shower daily. I'm sure some motherfuckers here needed to hear that, and it's one of the shittiest boards in the site which I never use, but that was too dismissive.

The way he glosses over the idea of user is a big miss in his work.

You can't just compress all the facets of Sup Forums into some "culture" that has a definite description.

Yeah, it's a fallacy
But mediocrity does enhance mediocrity. Sup Forums is full of mediocrity, and while it's fun to accept that sometimes. In the long run it's bound to end up in worse than mediocrity.

The article is interesting but it really does become a vehicle for this writer to express his opinions rather than get to the core of how Sup Forums has transformed over the years.

That's the entire internet though.

This article is being spammed on every board that the mods won't take it down from.
Season all click bait with sage.
