>"You know we can't get the real Miscavige, but we can create our own Miscavige".
>The film takes an unconventional approach to the subject matter, featuring young actors "auditioning" for parts playing high-profile Scientologists in scenes recreating accounts from ex-members about incidents involving senior church management.
So apparently there is not one interview with anyone from the actual Church of Scientology (because they all refused to participate) but just reconstructions of what "might" have happened inside as witnessed by former church official Mark Rathbun. Why would anyone pay to watch a reconstructed documentary which does not at all feature the real David Miscavige but what he "may" be like inside?
Even though this features a former Scientologist on board in Louis' "Reconstruction", this whole topic is a bit confusing. For instance I watched the HBO 'Going Clear' documentary before and I found it bizarre that there was one Scientologists who joined with his wife (I forgot his name) who was in the church for over 20 years until one day his wife began reading up on stories of evil that the higher ups in Scientology were supposedly doing, causing the couple to leave. Yet before that: they never experienced any abuse (so does the abuse apparently happen to only a select few?)
Anyway, it is a shame that Louis could not get an interview with anyone inside but it is more a shame that he had to turn his documentary into an entire reconstruction.
Oh, how edgy. Maybe he should go after Christianity next, that'll really show 'em!
James Adams

honestly, louis shouldnt have bothered with this
he knew they were going to make it impossible for him to make a real documentary and now all he has is this terrible excuse for a documentary

not to mention, I don't think scientology warranted such a documentary. He is free to pick any subject he wants obviously but he should be aware of the sensitivities of the american public before picking out on one of the most respected religion in the US

I totally agree with you anonymous. Louis Theroux only shows his incompetence and lack of journalistic ethics in this one.

Scientology has so many closeted fags.
Gabriel Murphy
That would be so good There are a few problems with that idea though
To do it properly, he'd have to have interview the extremist muslims who aren't involved directly yet to get a narrative of how one ends up there In doing so, he'd have a lot of interviews from less extreme-extremists. Being Louis, he'd have to question if they were really muslims since the qu'aran says this, that and the other. They'd then respond with their justification
This creates 2 problems 1. The muslim community would boycott it for showing how many muslims extremists there are in society and how ISIS can be considered genuine muslims contrary to the politically correct position on the subject 2. The arguments of the extremists might justify terrorism to young, disillusioned muslims thus making the film serve as ISIS propaganda

That, and he would risk having his shit ruined by those people for being too inquisitive.
I think Vice did an ISIS doc awhile back where they were able to ride along with actual militants in Aleppo. They probably got out alive by not asking too many questions and instead just filming day-to-day life in the city.

I doubt this documentary will even go into the detail of its founder and how he came up with his beliefs.
He did not just make it up. A lot of scientology has simarities with ancient pagan religions when speaking about the soul and about the alien beliefs: well it has similarities with Ancient Iraqi Annunaki beliefs of beings that exist that are far greater than humans with powers.
Even Islam teaches about the Jinn race which are a separate sort of spiritual inter dimensional species that was created alongside humans.
Wake up and know the truth and get away from your atheistic agendas.

Islam is not the problem. It is sharia law that is. The Qur'an doesnt have stoning of gays, that is an added on law which is found in the Hadith i.e. supposed sayings by the prophet.
But the Hadiths also have contradictions so not all Hadith is true. But then anyway: stoning laws are derived from the Jewish Torah/Old Testament.
Its the extremist Sharia Law muslims anyway that are the problem and not whole of the Muslim population. I am sure you are aware that Muslims kill other Muslims due to a war of "who is most right" same with Christianity having so many different sects.
The Islamic belief of Jesus not dying on the cross actually comes from a 2nd century Christian Gnostic text that was rejected by the church and yeah this text somehow found its way in the 6th century Qur'an.
The more you know

Scientology is loaded with top lawyers, they have their cult members work for and give the organization most of their wages, keep them in the equivalent of prisons. Reach the Christian Gnostic texts that were rejected by the early Christian text: Scientology molded some of these beliefs which are also found in ancient Paganism faiths:
>"Yaldabaoth said to the authorities with him, “Come, let us create a human being after the mage of God and with a likeness to ourselves, so that this human being image may give us light.” They created through their respective powers, according to the features that were given. Each of the authorities contributed a physical feature corresponding to the figure of the image they had seen. They created a being like the perfect first human, and said, “Let us call it Adam, that its name may give us power of light.”
>"All the angels and demons worked together until they fashioned the physical body… At once the rest of the powers became jealous. Although Adam came into being through all of them, and they gave their power to this human, Adam was more intelligent than the creators and first ruler. When they realized that Adam was enlightened, and could think more clearly than they, and was stripped of evil, they took and threw Adam into the lowest part of the whole material realm."
As you can see: humans were made by advanced spiritual entities who declared themselves as a "God".
>"Yaldaboath organized everything after the pattern of the first realms that had come into being, so that he might create everything in an incorruptible form... When he saw creation surrounding him, and the throng of angels around him that had come forth from him, he said to them, "I am a jelous god and there is no other god beside me." But by announcing this, he suggested to the angels with him that there is another god. For if there were no other god, of whom would he be jealous?"
If you read the Old Testament: Moses and Jehovah do battle against the Pagans and other Gods who use similar magic that Moses used; implying that no Jehovah in the Old Testament was not the only powerful entity.

I am listing ancient religious beliefs and how they have similarities with what Scientology teaches about some of the human origins.
Do you even pay attention?
Andrew Clark
If by "anyone" you mean American politicians and military who created and founded IS, as they did with all Middle East dictators and extremists, you are correct.
Luis Myers
You're listing beliefs, but the comparison fails without the parallel that allegedly exists within the cult.
How do those things you mentioned manifest within this cult?
Lucas Stewart
American imperialism did not create radical Islam!
What they do is tend the soil, plant the seeds and watch it all bear fruit.
But they can't make a tree, user.
Joshua Rivera
idk I haven't research much into Scientology apart from the creation of humanity due to alien beings if I am correct?
Ancient Iraqi Summerian belief lists a similar thing and the religious texts that I have listed about angels, demons working together to create the first human: Adam but then they strip him of his knowledge when they find out he could over rule them.
That is one of the similarities in religion: the Gods keeping mankind down on the ground and not being able to fly up to be super knowledgeable and beat them: Scientology has a similar fashion with "punishing" people if they try to outsmart the rulers of the church.
That's the whole idea for locking some members up in a room and making them do bizarre things as former Scientologist report: to remind them that they are human and not a "God" yet Scientology promises to help humans to save their soul or something.
Again I don't know the full picture or the full beliefs of Scientology but I picked up on this so far.
Scientology is also against lust, sexual abuse. This is why when someone tries to confront the church you will sometimes hear those with the cameras report "Are you clean Mr? You haven't been looking up any illegal porn have you?" This is too the idea why people believe that Scientology hates gays because again the church is anti lust if I am correct, similar to Christianity I guess but more ruthless.
Connor Rodriguez
I wish there was a documentary which would explain all this in good detail instead of just saying "L Ron Hubbard was a madman who made up science fiction and put that in a religion."
NO HE DID NOT! He was inspired by ancient religious texts and incorporated all that into his books and his faith.
There just is not one documentary fully describing everything I have listed here about the creation of Xenu which was based on the Ancient Summerian faith with higher up Gods taking care of humans.
Instead all these documentary is do is call Scientology an evil abusive religion without actually explaining to the public WHY they do what they do.
It's the same with Hitler. So many are taught he was just a selfish evil man yet are never taught what made him rule first: to help his germany and THEN later on became ruthless with power which changed his agenda.
Think of it like Darth Vader from Star Wars.
This Louis Theroux documentary isn't explaining anything of importance.
Justin Mitchell
Gnostics were a group of Christians that decided that the god in the bible was real but is either liar or insane, hence all the contradictions and paradoxes. They also thought that everything in the physical world was evil and corrupt and ought to be destroyed so that they could return to the true wisdom, who they personified as the greek goddess Sophia. They call the god of the bible either the demiurge or Yaldabaoth.
The rest of it seems to be based from a conspiracy theory that Sumerian Mythology is based on encounters with gold mining aliens who bred homo sapiens from earlier humans to help work the machinery and all following religions are corruptions based on this account. But he's switched out the names for Yaldabaoth
So you're neo-gnostics essentially, mixed with the ancient aliens view of the origins of religions? correct?
Thomas James
>So you're neo-gnostics essentially, mixed with the ancient aliens view of the origins of religions? correct? I'd say this is what I am getting at yes.
>They also thought that everything in the physical world was evil and corrupt and ought to be destroyed so that they could return to the true wisdom Yes this is the Gnostic view of Jesus who absolutely hated the flesh and taught everyone to kill their own flesh and rise up in spirit. We do get that in some of the 4 Gospels in the Bible but not so extreme. You can also say that Jesus is a kind of Demi-God in Gnosticism.
I find this belief far more better than Jesus and God being one and the same even though Jesus says now and again that he only does what the Father commands. So yes he may be glued to the Father but he still is a different entity kind of.
Also remember the Book of Genesis speaks of Sons of God coming down to mate with the females of mankind. This is never talked about in Sunday Church.
Jeremiah Ortiz
Oh hi David! How are you liking this image board?
Jonathan Hernandez
So Gnostics believe that Jesus and the Old Testament God (or Yaldaboath who goes by many names) is not the same?
Kevin Scott
So do you believe the universe is evil and should be destroyed?

>but he should be aware of the sensitivities of the american public before
Oh yeah, Wikileaks totally should've asked the DNC for permission before showing us the emails. Fucking moron, I don't even care if you're baiting.
Cameron Hughes
Yes the God of the Old Testament is not the same as Jesus in the Gnostic view
Noah Rivera
>So do you believe the universe is evil and should be destroyed? I am not a Gnostic believer. Did you think I was? Sorry I just like studying religion, no I never said I believed in this 100%.
I am just trying to find the link between all the religions and find Gnosticism very fascinating.
Oh come on you think I can get rid of my lust? No way that is a human trait that you cannot fight.
Carter Watson
Check this out. I got this information from a book that someone published, trying to argue that Jesus and Old Testament God are not the same (even though Jesus even states he has come to not abolish the Old Laws and even speaks to some of the old prophets so this belief even contradicts itself).
But in this book, it did list Old Testament and New Testament contradictions, such as Moses using snakes to kill his followers when Jesus speaks against snakes killing others and things like that so very interesting.
Brayden Sanders
nice b8 m8
For anyone actually interested in this film - it's pretty damn entertaining.
I got to see a pre-screening and there were some genuinely hilarious moments. Louis kinda takes his awkward shtick to the next level because none of the Scientologists are willing to cooperate or sit down for an interview.
Movie doesn't touch on any of Scientology's more sinister bullshit, just makes them look like a bunch of ridiculous assholes. David Miscavige especially just ends up looking like a petty schoolyard bully who managed to weasel his way into the leadership of a cult of rich delusional assholes.
Thomas Gutierrez
They had differing opinions, some seemed to think he was sent by Sophia, just a dude, and some stuck to the mainstream and said that he was some sort of expression of the demiuge's frustration at his own ineptness.
Gnostics had loads of varying arguments about things, since they decided God wasn't to be trusted as reliable they started arguing about what the devil was for example. Some went off and became satanists, some thought he was the equivalent of the demiurge's dickhead brother who kept messing with his toys, and some thought he and the demiurge were one and the same. They often depict the demiuge as a lion coming down from above with a serpent's tail coming from below.
I'm not actually a big fan of the gnostic world-view though, I just know about this stuff because I'm interested in mythology. I agree that the being presented in the bible is clearly lying about being omni-whatever (if he existed that is), but I don't agree with the conclusion that creation is inherently 'evil'.
Oliver Gomez
Is this scheduled for release only in Australia currently?
Gavin Brown
Kek. Oh right we're in the same boat then. I thought you were a scientologist.
Jeremiah Rodriguez
Well we can all agree that Jesus is a way better role model than Yahweh ever tried to be.
Cooper Gray
>David Miscavige especially just ends up looking like a petty schoolyard bully who managed to weasel his way into the leadership of a cult of rich delusional assholes. But this telling us nothing about the church... all this documentary is doing is recreating supposed events that happened and so what if Miscavige screamed and yelled at people? We all know these stories already so what's the point of going to pay money to watch a 90 minute film that improvises on how Miscavige may have acted?
We get no interviews with any actual Scientologists so why even go see it?
Parker Reed
