Okay. The current age of consent in the United Kingdom set by and confirmed by the government is 16 years old. Now that's not the thing that I'm bothered by. What I am bothered by is the fact that at 16 you legally have sex. You can join the army. You can get married. You can move out. Now all of those things are positives, right? No. As you can join the army, yes but you can't buy Call of Duty or Battlefield without a parent. You can have sex but you can't watch porn legally, you can't have nude ages of a consenting 16 year old. You can get married and move out but you can't get a job paying more than £3.60. What's the fucking idea behind this? The government give us these tastes of freedom but then suppress them? What the fuck?

I'm not actually 16. I'm 19 and am doing a project in which I study the disparity of UK laws. Looking into some of the stabilised laws I've found some pretty "what the fuck" laws.

The age should be the age of majority because they're involved in a contractual agreement, there are issues with how that's classified because it's unlike a normal acting role. Sex in private is different from a sex movie created for profit

The government have made it legal to but they don't actually want you to. There are benefits to this though, it doesn't all come as one big shock at 18, you're eased into your new freedoms making you more likely to be able to cope with them responsibly. It gives 16 year olds something to work for, they've just left school and otherwise they might just coast through life leeching from mam and dad and end up as neets by 18
