I'm 18 years old but am still on my Ls. I've only got 60 out of the 120 hours required before I can take the test for my driver's license.
Is it true that driving with a professional instruction that it counts as triple the amount of time? So if I take 10 lessons that are an hour each, it would count as 30 hours?

It only counts for the first ten hours. Since you've done more than that, it wont make a difference. One hour = one hour.

In the US we only need to have our learner's permits anywhere from 30 days to six months and can get our license at 16. Although some states allow hardship licenses as young as 14.
Isn't that when doing it with an instructor though? I've done the 60 hours with my parents, never with a professional instructor.
Here in Australia we can get our learner's permit at 16 and from 16 to 18 we can only drive if someone with a full license is in the car. Only once we're 18 and have driver 120 logged hours can we drive on our own.
Yeah it's pretty shit. We can't even get any cars with turbos until we have full licenses which would be at about 22.
And the accident rates bear out that difference.
