they built a universe across 3/4 movies and gilroy is important as fuck to it

greengrass was butthurt that gilroy did legacy and let his ego take over and tried to write this one out

when in reality gilroy has a better grasp on bourne and the universe and greengrass is just a slightly above average director.

They jumped on the "Jack Reacher" and "Jack Ryan" train by naming the movie after the main protagonist, rather than Legacy, Ultimatum, etc.

The problem is Jason Bourne was never a great protagonist. I personally liked the movies for the atmosphere and tone, Matt Damon never really brought Bourne to life for me.

Now that they've named it simply "Jason Bourne" the entire weight rests on his shoulders and my guess is that it just doesn't stand up.

I think they wanted audience retention by making it clear it was the same movies with the same characters. The sequel can have a less obvious name.
